Scottish Cup has historic importance this season

458

After three weeks catching sunrays and getting some recuperation in, Celtic are back in action tomorrow, in the Scottish Cup against Brechin City. The Angus club are enduring a torrid season, bottom of the Championship with four points from 21 games, so I would not expect them to venture too far from their only penalty area tomorrow.

While Brendan Rodgers will take the game seriously, in the bigger picture, it offers a good opportunity to get the legs stretched before the challenges over the next four weeks in the League and Europa League.

With the League Cup already secured and a commanding grip put on the seventh successive league title, Celtic are five cup ties away from an unprecedented second consecutive treble. There will be more financially rewarding games ahead, but our Scottish Cup ties have an historic importance.

That player you mention @ 10.44 – couldn’t get a game for St Modans school team, all the St Modans Bhoys at the time played with Stirling Bhoys club (nothing to do with Stirling Albion at time) and another 6 players from that age group made is as professionals – he played at Grangemouth. His dad was a coach at Stirling Albion though, so he managed to play with several of those Bhoys, I firmly believe the only reason he made it in football

Choosing my words here, he was and still is a b–bag

(and I played in same teams as most of them) 2 best players in team didn’t make it, 1 kept him out the team we all played for the other played for Scotland at amateur level

  3. I see Brighton have bought a striker from PSV for ÂŁ14m

guess that will be Moussa off their radar,

if he was ever on it.

Cowiebhoy, I have heard a few people talk in similar terms about said player.

In that reserve game I mentioned , he played with the spirit and heart I would love all our players to do against an Ibrox club.

In fact all our players in that game played really well aided and abetted by some atrocious goalkeeping by the Girvan Lighthouse.

Has there ever been a moment that has captured the greatest ever bear, John Greig, more eloquently. Wee Jimmy must be jealous. I noticed that other creature of culture, Tam Forsyth, being given the runaround at the same time.

Ronnie Glavin, a decent player made immeasurably better alongside King Kenny.

  7. There’s been a lot of daft conflict on here lately and I’m convinced the lack of real football has a lot to do with it, well I hope so.

Shining like a treble trophy cabinet surrounded by the mire of petty feuds was Dena’s daughter’s news. Absolutely jaw ‘droppingly’ brilliant. Pardon me as I’m always a sceptic with that cursed disease but the wee yin has beat it! Delighted for that lovely family.

    Onto less important things…

Remember Bhoys it is good to question and we would not be where we are today with blind acceptance. The blog and Celtic prosper with a variety of voices.

Anyway time for a hoot in Cork or Derry.

True story, 1 of the Bhoys who didn’t make it from that group of players ( and were are going back nearly 40 years ago – 39 I think ?)

Anyway, he scored 6 goals against the defunct clubs Boys club for Stirling Bhoys club, as we knocked them ooot the Scottish Cup

The Defunct club made enquiries about him, and walked away when given his name – Daniel

They done the same with my favourite all time Celt

    Daniel Fergus McGrain :-)))

I think Barney McGhee would be in that reserve pic, he played at Eastercraigs with spikeysauldman and myself

Lex Baillie and John Trainer also I think

  10. Weet Weet Weet, bang on with your Tweet, brought a lot memories back, sadly all them things you mentioned, are all gone,Mister gies a lift over , Macaroon Bars, Wrigley’s Spearmint Gum,any ginger bottles misses,Coal Briquettes, the list is endless,

Blantyre Tim, Barney Magee is in the front row of the picture with Lex just behind him and John Traynor beside Owen Archdeacon.

In October 1984 , our reserves beat their hun counterparts , 1 nil , Rambo scored our winner with about 5 minutes to go. Barney was at left back and had a great game . It was the Saturday after Rapid beat us in Vienna.

Some shops in Vienna sold pictures of Diana Spencer’s head super imposed on a topless model.

The enclosure at Ibrox was open for the reserve game . A Celtic supporter started taunting the Huns on the other side of the enclosure by showing them the poster and in typical Hun style , were going bonkers .
