St Johnstone have bigger fish to fry between now and the end of the season than the Scottish Cup, but their date at Hampden against Celtic next month is their chance at glory.
Celtic apart, Saints are the only side to have won the Cup more than once in the last 16 years. Final wins over Dundee United in 2014 and Hibs in 2021 demonstrate a recent history of success we should guard against. It’s maybe better to face the team with a recent success run out of the way before the final.
Celtic won their first Scottish Cup in 1892, but it was 2019 before the club won that trophy three seasons in a row, on their way to a quadruple treble. Just six seasons later we are back in the semifinals aiming to achieve three in a row Scottish Cup wins again.
We should know better than to be complacent. After winning the cup in 2004 and 2005, Clyde eliminated Roy Keane et al in 2006. Winners in 1988 and 89, we lost the 1990 final to Aberdeen after 20 penalty kicks.
That was Aberdeen’s fifth Scottish Cup win in nine seasons. Celtic have won the Cup six times in the previous nine seasons, but Aberdeen’s triumph in 1990 was an era ending; they have not won again in the 35 years since. When successful runs end, it is seldom obvious at the time.

24 September 2024 Uefa has reopened the bidding for stadiums to host the 2027 Champions League final, after the match was stripped from Milan.
*after the shambles of the 1970 final, and I don’t mean another big billy blunder where Milan was involved, they should never have had another final, as a City they wurnae interested after all only 3 years earlier we had humiliated their favourite side, ok it was only 2-1 but that was 2 going on 10, there was a couldnae care less attitude toward the game, no programmes for example and customer service, especially at the stadium, was less than nil, they actually won the bid over Rome which I personally would have prepared, “the famous Glasgow Celtic took a holiday to Rome” to reiterate an old song.
Article 45 Visiting team tickets
45.01
Home clubs must make at least 5% of the UEFA spectator capacity available to visiting supporters
(2900 is the south east corner with the segregation nets)
. this is what the 2nd rangers will have on sunday.
Visiting clubs are entitled to receive 200 top-category tickets for their premium supporters, sponsors, etc., but they are not obliged to take the full allocation. 50 of these tickets must be provided on a complimentary basis, (i take it this is the marquee outside then seats in the south stand front east.
In addition, visiting clubs are entitled to receive 35 tickets for their UEFA Youth League delegation on a complimentary basis. These tickets should ideally be in the same block as the 200 top-category tickets.
finally, thank goodness the audience says.
i note away tickets in cl cannot be priced more than 50 euros.
meanwhile celtic charge our kids £34 and the general sale punter £62,
so in summary, for our home match v bayern –
away club – got 2900 in the away corner and 500 in the front stand – 3,400.
uefa and sponsors – 1660 (380 as complimentaries)

Man Utd are the latest club to embark upon stadium upgrades as clubs look to increase match day revenues.
Let’s hope we’re not sleeping at the wheel as regards Celtic Park..
Wee correction AD,its a new stadia as far as i read am Jim,not content with harvesting subsidies/grants/gov finance from the oil sector is now ‘tupeing’over that skill set to football.ot may be biggest club with global fan base, but it will not be built without govt finance ie oor money.

I hope we never become part of a ‘franchise’. A huge club like man u have become a chess piece in a board room in America
We could do what Ratcliffe is doing, and get tax payers to foot some of the stadium bill….
Well my first day at Cheltenham is a hun v Queens Park. Disappointing. 😂
The Milan final. I would rather not think about that again. 😔
Barca v Benfica on TNT
Liverpool v PSG Amazon Prime 8pm

Billy Joel Tour cancelled
While I agree that Milan had no interest in our Final, one place were very helpful. The airport city terminal was closed when quite a few of us arrived. The workers opened the place up and let us stay until early in the morning when the first buses arrived to take us to the airport. There my pal and I, who were flying to Brussels, were in the next bay to the victorious Feijenoord team. Hugh had the manners to shake hands and congratulate them. God forgive me, I couldn’t bring myself to do so; I was so down (at least that’s my excuse).
Haven’t had the courage to watch the game back nor Seville for that matter either.

One for the financial guys….
There is an easy way to add a parkhead train station across from the forge, but it would reduce glasgow to Edinburgh service times by 5 minutes so we can’t have that now can we. Not for the folk who live, work and play in the eastend.
——————
as well as the parkhead stadium station, there was another at the bridge very end of duke street also conusingly called parkhead station.
ibrox was served by ibrox stadium station right at the asda exit.
i noted also looking at early hibs maps there was a station at easter road.
thatcooncils want to get cars off the road, ok fine, but put the transport links in that allow people to get away easy.
those beeching cuts, yhat man should have been jailed.
and look at all the new statind being built and old lines reopened.
parkhead for celtic park.
tunnels still there btw.

With news that Man Utd are talking about building a 100,000 stadium would we be happy if Celtic built a state of the art stadium close to but not on the site of Celtic Park?
I know Saint’s fans who miss the Dell, and Arsenal fans who miss Highbury but they say that most fans have seen it as a positive move.
‐‐—————————————–
Most definitely yes. No brainer. State of the art five star stadium. Don’t care where its built but surely wouldnt have to go far….the graveyard could be bought and redeveloped.
Ave Ave
Good evening all from the Queens Park Cafe. No profit at all from the racing today but the Liverpool match is grand. 👍
Sionnaigh,,What about the graves.
“Sir” jim Rat Cliffe has been in bed with the Chinese government fortever and a day, and yet he expects the British government to underwrite Norman Foster’s latest CGI er stadium. Andy (Everton) Burnham is on board as is Seb (Chelsea) Co. You could not make it up.
Not a big fan of The Donald, but the sooner he sanctions Ineos the better.
