Scottish football on solid ground

1313

Any away win by a Scottish club in the Netherlands is noteworthy but Aberdeen’s win last night is even more significant. It is a sign that a recovery is underway in one of Scottish football’s perennial underachievers. St Johnstone’s result is more of the same after last year’s achievements. Motherwell’s sorry exit is a lesson on being unprepared….

If Celtic can reach the Champions League group stage for the third successive season, there’s reason to believe our game is on solid ground after the years of excess and abandon.

Still dazed and surprised about that whole performance. Expected the young lads to be a lot better than that. Maybe it was the heat. St Pauli generally first to the ball and if they weren’t they arrived very shortly after and seized possession. The level of determination of St Pauli unfortunately was higher than that of our young lads. Leida would have learned a lot there and he probably has a good idea who will not be continuing with us. It must be difficult to tell a young lad that his services are no longer required but it has to be done because we can’t keep them all. Twardzic easily removed from possession for their goal – embarrassing. We need NEW young lads.

My recollection was that it was a bit of kidology from Jock and that Yeats played as an extra Centre half. However, as we went 2 :0 down, I think he threw Ron forward and we lost 3:0.

I cannot find a match report but the line up suggests we had Forrest and Hughes as Centre Forward options:-
