Scouts will have seen different aspects in Malmo and Glasgow

446

Malmo quickly followed up their best result of the season against Salzburg with a 2-1 win over top of the table Gothenburg.  They remain four points off the pace but whatever form issues they have had in recent months appear to be resolved.

Champions League football was a harsh experience for Malmo last season.  They qualified after beating Salzburg 3-0 in the play-off round, coincidentally the same score they beat the same opponents by in the last round.  While Salzburg went on to top Celtic’s Europa League group, Malmo lost home and away to Juventus and Atletico Madrid, winning their only points in a home win over Olympiakos.

I’m sure Celtic will have scouted yesterday’s game in Malmo and will have learned more about the home team than Malmo learned about Celtic during yesterday’s stroll in the park at Firhill.  We will have seen them at their best, they will have seen us scarcely breaking sweat.

Ronny will have an idea of the extent of the challenge ahead.  Malmo might not be a match for Juventus or Atletico but they know how to play European football.  We will all have an important job to do at Celtic Park next week.

  1. Seemingly Celtic are sitting on a £11m offer for Van Dijk which came in last week. They haven’t accepted or rejected it. This comes from the guy on the Huddleboard who regularly tells us the team news before it’s official, so it’s probably true.

I’d like to add my tuppenceworth regarding how seriously we treat the Cups. Like most other Celtic supporters I would love us to win treble after treble but it seems there are people in Scotland who are prepared to go to any length to place obstacles in our way to ensure that we don’t win the treble. You only have to look at some of the decisions given against us in recent seasons, the denial of penalties to us and the awarding of penalties to our opponents.

    .

The Scottish Cup is the SFA’s flagship tournament. They hope for a full house at the Cup Final as a major source of income. Look at all the empty spaces at last season’s final, for example. While they may have had instant gratification for one of their referees ‘sticking it’ to Celtic in the semi-final and denying us the treble, the shortfall in the numbers who attended the final will have cost them a lot of money and must be a concern to them. How long will they hold on to sponsors if this is repeated regularly?

While it would go against the grain, Celtic have the answer to this in their own hands. In my opinion, we should field a team of youngsters in both cups. Remove the attraction of these tournaments until the SFA get the message that Celtic won’t take these tournaments seriously until the SFA treat the refereeing problem in Scotland seriously.

It would be a sacrifice but we would only have to do this once or twice.

  3. Celtic last weds, Celtic on Sunday past, Celtic tomorrow night, Celtic on Saturday, Celtic next Weds.

    Oh yes.

    It’s all about the Celtic……

  4. SadiesBhoy and others – on the Cups – I take a different view. Increasingly the cup games are the only domestic ‘do or die’ games that we have. Strange that it doesn’t translate in to bigger attendances though.

However, I love the Cups. I want to see us in cup finals. Nothing like the buzz of a cup final day.

I take your point that we can hurt the SFA in some way, that we can risk blooding a few youngsters in these games, but for me there are better ways. A boycott by Celtic fans of the National team and any merchandising would be a start.

Interesting debate about JC’s comments. It was not that long ago that the man with no surname said that the Huns were so good they could field three teams; one for Europe; one for the SPL; one to play around in the bottom tier. Don’t recall adverse comments from the MSM!

We should have had ICT buried by half-time at Hampden – as we should have Ross & Thistle recently and umpteen more, in the last THREE seasons.

The attitude that “the goals will come” is, quite frankly, infuriating.

We are masters of own downfall – a handful of refereeing decisions should not make ANY difference – we get our fair share of 50/50 decisions – let’s stop being hyper- paranoid.

  9. We’re still trying to iron out some issues with the new site. If anyone is experiencing any difficulties accessing or using the site please let me know.

Would be great to do a CQN App too but the work on the site has been fairly exhausting!

The new RONNY’S ROAR book will be promoted by Celtic and RONNY later this week. You can get an advance copy from CQN – click on Bookstore link at top. He’s got some interesting stuff to say.

Ever since I can remember, and I’m 64, most Celtic supporters have been boycotting the Scotland team. The difficulty with that approach is how do the SFA actually know if Celtic supporters are boycotting the national team or not?

Actually, when I lived in London, Jack Glass was a Window Cleaner in Camden Town, would just like to make that transparent.

Once again no attempt to answer any point(s), just puerile name-calling – aren’t you better than that? So many like you on here. I get riled with the awards against us, but we get our share – Craig could/should have walked against Ross and, Mikael could have been penalised against Thistle.

Do the SNP zealots who have infiltrated this forum – (kiddy-on Celtic supporters) – are they part of the Tartan (Fran & Anna lookalikes) Army, and do they ‘belt-out’ the Flower of Scotland dirge?

Could it that Manchester Utd. hold the the winning cards re big VVD after all he is Dutch as is VanGael Utd.are still looking to sign another centre back and funds are available. Now it has been reported that Celtic are interested in a 12 months loan of a certain Utd striker.Celtic appear to have an agreement with VVD that he will stay with us to after the CL qualifyers and hope to get the big man to stay if we qualify for the CL group games .However, if the big guy wants to leave Utd. have the money and the player Celtic would like to sign for the season now this may just be conjecture on my part or it may have more than a grain of truth in it so its up to you to decide.
