Scouts will have seen different aspects in Malmo and Glasgow

446

Malmo quickly followed up their best result of the season against Salzburg with a 2-1 win over top of the table Gothenburg.  They remain four points off the pace but whatever form issues they have had in recent months appear to be resolved.

Champions League football was a harsh experience for Malmo last season.  They qualified after beating Salzburg 3-0 in the play-off round, coincidentally the same score they beat the same opponents by in the last round.  While Salzburg went on to top Celtic’s Europa League group, Malmo lost home and away to Juventus and Atletico Madrid, winning their only points in a home win over Olympiakos.

I’m sure Celtic will have scouted yesterday’s game in Malmo and will have learned more about the home team than Malmo learned about Celtic during yesterday’s stroll in the park at Firhill.  We will have seen them at their best, they will have seen us scarcely breaking sweat.

Ronny will have an idea of the extent of the challenge ahead.  Malmo might not be a match for Juventus or Atletico but they know how to play European football.  We will all have an important job to do at Celtic Park next week.

Have to agree re Kris, he looks fighting fit, put in a decent shift yesterday, hopefully Ronny gives him more game time.

They still shouldn’t lack sharpness and fitness tho :-)

31003. oops just shows how concerned I am about us not taking enough of our chances. H.H.

  4. Bout ye C

Alan Parry went out of his way to refer to Mc Clean as coming from …..”.L.” …. Derry.

    Where is that place?

  5. Jeezo…I agree with ThompsonTwins….We are in a position where Cup Competitions are of No importance..They Should be used for blooding young players, Trebles are a Vanity Project…I care nothing about Trebles..I Care nothing About 10iar…Its only a means to the C/L…Thats what Really Matters..

  6. Everyone knows the standard of teams Celtic face is poor, although that had nothing to do with Legia, we were poor, underprepared, still finding our feet. I would much rather face teams, who spend what they earn, no illegal registering of players, competing by cheating.

Unfortunately I don’t see the problem improving, only worsening, their are however advantages. We get to rest important players, put all our energies into Europe, whilst still being able to compete domestically. I’m happy winning titles and feel we are off CL group stage standard. Quietly confident against Malmo, we have better players, although the away tie will be tough.

Ronny 100% correct the media is a game. Take JC incident blow it out of proportion, sells newspapers fills air time on tv/radio more viewers/listeners blah blah for a few days. Until the next fart in a spacesuit occurs. Personally don’t pay it much attention.

Not just Scottish media every country’s media do the same stunt. With the over hyped EPL being the worse.

  8. Can’t agree BGX. I care about every Celtic game and result so it stands to reason I care about Cups and continuing to win League Titles as long as possible. However I do accept that my main target every year is the League Title and qualification for Group Stage Champions League. Cups are peripheral, they are not high priority but Finals are great days out and if Celtic are in a Final, I know which captain I want to see holding up the Cup at the final whistle.

  9. BGX,

I also agree with what Thompson Twin stated in his 09.09 hrs post.

I take each post on its merits. I judge and evaluate the post and not the poster. I’m absolutely sure that if one of the more “esteemed ” posters had written these thought then there would have been an avalanche of congratulatory responses.

As an aside to our second goal yesterday, I think fifteen months ago the contact with the defender would’ve knocked KC off his feet. I enjoyed Celtic’s play generally although six left-pegs made the team look a bit lop-sided.

Having all the Celtic fans in the Jackie Husband stand made it a tough exam for Calum Macgregor. When he replaced SA on the left wing, he played with Izzy in front of us, then in the second-half after GMS arrived switched to the right and was still under the microscope in front of us. At the time, I bet he was saying, “don’t send me over there again” under his breath.

Fair play to him, stuck to his brief willingly. In the end, I was glad he waved off the bench after his cramp attack and finished the game. Where was Stokes?

  11. I am downloading Windows10 to my laptop. It started at 5.45pm and is “still working on it”. Anyone else have similar experience?

  12. Corkcelt…I just was saying that alTrebles aint my priority, a Celtic in the C/L is…as for 10iar…Sorry…why should i want to be reminded the huns did nine( cheating i know)…Sorry ..every league title is a way to the C/L..thats how i see it…

Benjamin Netanyahu is to hold talks in London this September. Under international law he should be arrested for war crimes upon arrival in the U.K for the massacre of over 2000 civilians in 2014

Please consider signing this petition which has reached 25,000 signatures in the short time it has been online since yesterday!

  15. I find it distasteful in the extreme to complain about the paucity of opposition in Scotland. My god havent we learned anything?

We had that sort of arrogance from the hun. Of course then the media loved it – now they attack us – so what? Thats Scotlands racism. But that we are now beginning to ape that arrogance is disgusting.

We love to complain (well some of us) about the lack of a level playing field with England. Well thats how other clubs in scotland must feel.

And as for not caring about winning cups etc.

    Get a grip.

    Stop aping the hun.

  16. Each season my 1st wish is to win the league, without that no CL

BGX. Agreed. I don’t see Celtic through an Old Firm spectrum either. My ambitions for Celtic are way higher than the height of the knuckle-dragging mob. And treble shmeble.

Watched sky sports news this morning the Craig Gordon incident came up as a comparison to the Chelsea goalie..Dermot the ref said Collum was right to issue a yellow, no hullabaloo just the ref got it right.

    How about ye G?

Parry’s reference to Derry with an L isn’t a surprise to me as I’m sure it’s not to you. It’s the reaction from his club’s own supporters that angers me.

    I hope you’re well sir.

  20. So derek “kai johanson” mcinnes who while managing St Johnstone referred tae naesurname as “gaffer” and steven”jevelin thrower” Thomson die hard buddy are good guys.

The former was 5 years at the coup and the latter 4.

The minute they pull on the black mass vestments, they’re huns.

Don’t forget that bfdj was once an arab but a true blue hun noo.

  21. Just reading some of the stuff online about JC comments. Just shows how sad a little country this is, some of these people are so bitter and cannot hide it. McInness obviously has a personal issue against Collins & Deila, it was evident last season and still is now. He is a bitter little you know what and so could not wait to take the bait. Fair play though to John Hughes for speaking sensibly and honestly. The fact is that some of the teams we play are so bad it is embarrassing to watch. The league is crap. The likes or Van Djik and Biton make grown men look like 4 years olds. Visiting some away grounds is like being put in a time machine to the 1930’s. Almost every year, the teams outside us that make it into Europe get put out at the first hurdle. That tells you everything.

  22. mullet and co 2 on

I read Derek McInnes say that whoever they played before Astana tested their discipline more than any domestic side.

I thought last season that Aberdeen thought they were better than Celtic. McInnes does not respect the club, he doesn’t rate the manager and has been listening to some of his old pals from that old club he played for. McInnes would do well to keep his mouh shut or Celtic will turn up tooled up with a full house. Good to see that Ronny is playing the game.

Some folk really need to concentrate on what’s good for Celtic and not their own agendas. John Colins has.

Kris Commons goal yesterday was good but I fail to see how you could say no one else at the club was capable of scoring it. Commons sits a creative notch above his compadres but to hold him up in exhault tells you we lack quality elsewhere. Commons is a 6 or 7 in terms of skill but not close to the 8s and 9s and 10s we have had. Commons at 6 or 7 skill level is undone by his inability to cover ground quickly. Armstrong and Johansen are not far behind. In the round, johansen offers more to the team. Armstrong looks to me to be a better long term replacement for Commons. Johansen could be the next shiney object to attract the Magpies. Commons I guess gets more plaudits than he really deserves due to him getting the club. It’s great that he does but we shouldn’t compensate.

  23. Good to see Celtic Men seeing the bigger Picture…Lets stop being So parochial,…Its what thems Want..Its all They Have…Dont get Dragged Down by them…

  24. mullet and co 2 on

    Attacking the opposition neganon?

All Collins said was the Champions League is the top competition … It makes our players concentrate. The scottish league is far behind that. Our players don’t concentrate as much. We lose the ball. To stay concentrated for the Champions League we need to practice the same level of intensity in every single game.
