Script written for Scepovic

886

With John Guidetti ineligible, Anthony Stokes is manager Ronny Deila’s first choice striker for Europa League action.  Anthony arrived at Glasgow Airport this morning but was sent home ill.  He was a certain starter, so whatever plans the manager made, a rethink is in order.

Stefan Scepovic made his goal-scoring breakthrough against Astra last month, and followed up with a goal next time out against Kilmarnock, but he was benched for Partick and Inverness Thistle.  Despite being third on the roster he’s likely to be the solitary striker role tomorrow evening.

This is a big game in Stefan’s Celtic career.  A European ground with an 8500 capacity presents a different pressure, and expectation, than Celtic Park.  Can he rise to the challenge?  Wakaso stepped forward in Salzburg and Callum McGregor did the same in Reykjavik, Warsaw and Maribor.  Both benefited enormously as a result.  I could make a case that Stefan needs this game; the script’s written……

Many thanks to everyone who bought the DVDs from CQNBookstore since yesterday, that’s’ the deal finished.  Will try to pull another together at some point.

  7. One year on from RES 12

A year ago Canalmar & others were running about shouting the board have done/said nothing about the team playing out of Ibrox.

I stated on here that I had read nothing about the Celtic Board accepting/or not the other company/club presently residing in Ibrox Stadium. (I’m from Govan and HATE stating that they are resident there, due to boundary changes). TD67 agreed that indeed the board had not committed one way or the other. Prior to the AGM Celtic had a meeting with several posters/members to enlighten them on the Celtic stance. I have not read any update, but I am not worried because the team from Ibrox do not come into my thoughts. (when was the last time EVERY Celtic supporter looked up their score before Aberdeen/DU, ITC etc) We have a game against the new club playing out of Ibrox and I believe that is the time to show our cards.

Keep your cards close to your chest and give your enemies no clue to how you are thinking.

  9. BRTH:

I heartily compliment you and all the others, known and unknown, who are beavering away with the Res 12. I truly hope it realises its initial objective. Having said that, I do take exception, not offence, at your somewhat condescending description of “ill-informed drivel by some posters. If the said posters you refer to had been unequivocally kept assured that progress was ongoing I think they, and me too, would have felt less frustrated and dare I say cheated. Cheated in the sense that I invested so much hope into that initiative only to see it apparently stall if not parked.

I have faith in the integrity of those whom I am aware of working on the Res. BUT I never felt confident or assured that the Res would be pursued to a satisfactory conclusion. I still don’t have a confident feeling that it’ll be successful but I do so wish you and all well and courage and stamina. My personal desire to see so many wrongs righted often causes the blood to boil and often it manifests in heart-felt frustration and short words.

Celtic are often accused, and often rightly so, of being poor at communication and this does cause angst, not just with me but with many multiple decades old, and some younger, Celtic supporters.

Communication is key. Without it people will arrive at their best thought our conclusions fuelled by historical scepticism, paranoia, fear, hope, desire, and the wish to live just once in a world of a level playing field. All those people who spoke either in glowing terms or not regards Res 12, every single one of them without exception, is a Celtic man or woman at heart and soul. I can’t speak for all of them and I wouldn’t dare try but I think like me they aspire to enjoy their emotional and financial investment in Celtic knowing that their efforts are not pre-prejudiced and in vain.

In simple English… we all want that level playing field, with all of our hearts and souls. Individually and collectively, as a good support and a caring culture, we want that level playing field, not just for ourselves,I don’t think any of us that selfish, we want it for those who have already gone not knowing it, and we want it more for our children to come, and I’m not just talking about a football club and its culture, I’m talking about our shared culture within and beyond the club. Having such hopes dashed, or appear to be dashed, can often lead to harsh words. I’m sure you can appreciate that too because just like me, you can’t walk in every Celtic Supporters shoes.

Empathy is a virtue and I repeat again, you, auldheid, morrisey, all of you, you have my admiration and again I wish you courage and fortitude and I think I can speak for most if not all Celtic Supporters by saying they’ll wish you nothing less and much, much more.

Oh! and a result, I wish you a result too.

Spiers on Sport: call me a hypocrite, but I can’t wait for the Old Firm game

Some will say I’m about to venture down a road of hypocrisy here, and not for the first time in my life.

I was at the Bet Butler Stadium at Dumbarton last Saturday revelling in the early evening drizzle when news came through that Celtic had drawn Rangers in the semi-finals of the Scottish League Cup.

I couldn’t help myself. The internal surges of excitement and anticipation were undeniable. The first Old Firm meeting in over two and a half years, out of nowhere, was an enthralling prospect.

On no subject, surely, have I written more frequently or copiously than the Old Firm: its passion, its dramas, its poisonous bigotry and the rest.

In that time I’ve also done my fair share of lofty head-shaking and poo-pooing of the fixtureof how Scotland could do without it, of how tawdry and despicable it can be at times.

I’ve delivered all the lines: the A&E scenarios, the domestic violence spikes, the “scar on society” and the rest.

Yep, done ’em all. I’ve got the medal for self-righteous disdain. I’ve utterly deplored the disgusting Old Firm spectacle.

Now I can’t wait for the end of January. I can scarcely keep myself from looking ahead to this Hampden cup semi, having been starved of the fixture for so long. I simper quietly to myself just thinking about a Celtic-Rangers match after this Glasgow derby period of purdah.

They – our moral guardians out there – are flashing up their warning signs already about the match. There’s trouble ahead. There’s yet more poisonous singing to come. A few wives/women are set to take a few blows. Doctors and nurses, like some battle-scarred village on the Western Front, are on a red alert.

If I wanted to I could dig out some of my own stuff about “the Old Firm being a blight on Scottish society”. And there is a lot of truth in all this. The fixture can attract everything that is primeval or bad in west of Scotland man.

Well, hurry up and bring it on. Let’s just get to the end of January right now. Because, in spite of everything, this is a Celtic-Rangers game to cause a sensory overload.

To be honest, I’m not expecting great football. In fact sometimes – not always – the quality of football in the Glasgow derby can be like something out of the Ayrshire Juniors.

This looming cup tie might fall into that category, such is the panting for it, the lusting for the day to arrive. The atmosphere around it is going to be so charged, so hyped, that I’m not sure much football will break out.

Yet the fixture has been sorely missed by hundreds of thousands of people. For some peculiar reason, a few Rangers and Celtic fans make a point of denying this, affecting not to have missed it at all.

This is The Great Lie. In truth, I would say 99% of Celtic and Rangers fans have really, really missed it. The Old Firm match, warts and all, is absolutely engrossing to take in.

You can smell the cordite already. Bring it on. Hurry up.

    END

Sorry but I believe (maybe wrong) it was about the Celtic Boards apparent inactivity about accepting/or not the SFA’s decision to accept NEWCO into Scottish professional football.

No team may have been mentioned but of course their licencing/administration was only to help ONE club.

I think/hope the board will speak up when the time is ripe.

There’s a debate going on in the Scottish Parliament right now on sectarianism and the Offensive Behaviour at Football Bill.

Seems that the bill is due to be reviewed in March 2015. It’d therefore probably be very handy for some folk in high places in politics and the police if all hell was to break loose in the upcoming League Cup semi final with the newco.

In fact very convenient for a lot of people that we were drawn with Sevco immediately before this bill is due to be reviewed. What were the chances of that?

    Kit..,

Everyone was unequivocally assured that there was progress throughout this process, the problem was some made the decision that they needed all the information so that they could determine what progress was and that they were deserving of that information more than others, then decided to fill in the spaces when they never got that information, the space filling was the ill-informed drivel BRTH was referring to.

Patience and trust was requested and for most that is and was enough for others they could not contain themselves and that is and was disappointing but expected.

Everyone here has the same aspirations and we have had to agree to thing that go against the grain but when your dealing with corruption it’s no a good idea to give too much away, how much to give away was always the problem, we with the exception of a few frustrated occasion tried to give nothing away.

This has never been a popularity contest so having people disappointed and frustrated was always going to happen, the hardest part for me was keeping the info and no ramming it down doubters throats, aye it’s been frustrating for you and many others but put yourself in our shoes, imagine wanting to tell everyone every detail knowing just one detail the wrong detail could destroy the trust a shut the whole thing down.

It’s bad enough commemorating the start of World War I, without reliving the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Montevideo! Even so I did enjoy the reference to the “Uruguayan Celtic supporters who showered the pitch with whatever they could get their hands on”, puts those Chelsea fans to shame!
