‘SEAL THE DEAL,’ TRUSTY’S TARGET

AUSTON TRUSTY is determined to make sure Celtic “seal the deal” when they face Aberdeen in the Premier Sports League Cup semi-final at Hampden tomorrow night.

The Hoops blew a two-goal interval advantage and were forced to settle for a 2-2 stalemate when the teams locked horns in the Premiership at Parkhead 13 days ago.

It was the first points either of the sides had dropped this season and an unbeaten sequence will have to come to an end at the south side arena on this occasion.

USA international centre-back Trusty, a £6million recruit from Sheffield United on deadline day, insists the Dons will not be allowed to stage a great escape for a second time.

ON THE BALL…Auston Trusty is in control at the back.

The 26-year-old left-sided defender said: “When you are up 2-0, then you want to seal the deal in the game.

“We’ll go into this one very confident, but if we are in that position again then seal the deal. We approach every game as a challenge so that is going to be the mindset again.

“We don’t take any game easy or lightly. That is about respecting our opponent. But it doesn’t matter who we are playing, we want to go out there and play our game.

“If we do that, the game takes care of itself. You focus on who you are playing against, but you also really focus on within.”

Trusty will be performing at the national stadium for the first time and, speaking to the Daily Record, added: “I haven’t played there, so it will be pretty special for me.

HIGHLAND FLING…Auston Trusty celebrates Alistair Johnston’s equaliser against Ross County in Dingwall last month with Callum McGregor and Liam Scales about to join in.

“Every stadium is a new experience for me here.

“I am excited. I haven’t seen clips of Hampden yet, but I’m sure I’ll see some before the game.”

Brendan Rodgers now has the happy problem of being able to choose his two centre-backs from three contenders with Cameron Carter-Vickers returning in the 2-0 midweek win over Dundee after a nine-game injury lay-off.

The defensive rock could be teamed with his international colleague Trusty or Liam Scales who came on as a late substitute in the victory over the Dens Parkers.

All will be revealed before kick-off!
