Season in jeopardy with rule breaking

375

So far, it is clear that Covid hygiene rules were not followed at St Mirren, where seven non-playing staff tested positive for the virus.  Additionally, the SFA have launched an investigation into allegations Newco fielded nine players against Dundee United on Wednesday without receiving the required negative test results.

The anomaly came to light because Newco arranged two games on Wednesday.  Motherwell, their opponents in the second game, had their results delayed by the same testing backlog.  This brought attention to the fact that neither club received the all-clear until Wednesday evening, several hours after the Newco-Dundee United game.

There are significant health and commercial risks at play here.  The seven staff at St Mirren could easily (and may have) infect the playing staff.  If St Mirren then played a game, the virus would almost certainly infect not only the rest of the team but their opponents.  Games involving these teams would be postponed for weeks, perhaps months.  Dozens of carriers would travel home from that game and Scotland would have a fresh wave to worry about.

The SFA Joint Response Group reached a deal with the Scottish Government on how and when to return to training and then games, all predicated on safety rules being adhered to.  Celtic, and others, have transformed their stadiums into an environment where socially distanced spectators can attend safely and be seen to do so.

They want fans back soon and wait on Government clearance.  That possibility disappeared yesterday, when allegations emerged that one club has been cheating.  Football is as trustworthy as its greatest rogue.  I doubt the SFA considered how to discipline a club that flaunts Covid rules and risks the entire game in this country.  No fine would be large enough to match the financial consequences for others.

There is no infection at Ibrox, the pain of any breach there will be felt by fans of all clubs not attending fixtures until later.  St Mirren were less negligent but their issue is more serious and spooked me.  If this happened in my workplace, when most others have returned to work, it could threaten the entire business.  We are going to move into a stage when most of the world is getting on with things, and some businesses will be halted by infection, acute illness and worse.

I have spoken to staff at Celtic who have been impressed at the processes in place to protect club employees from infection, from everything I hear, we are getting things right.  The evidence elsewhere is that others are complacent.  If that is allowed to continue, next season and the health of many is in jeopardy.

You have to wonder what’s in the water at Ibrox with the incessant flouting of rules.

Apparently Peter Lawell has upped our initial £3.5m bid for Barkas.

Sources confirm that he has offered £3.51m with a further payment of £2m if we win the Champions League. Twice.

To be fair to the guy, the only game that Wigan lost when he played he was subbed off injured after 6 mins at 0-0.

Many Wigan fans saying he turned their defensive record around.

I think it’s a relatively astute signing if you are shopping in the bargain bin.

Wasn’t taken that way don’t worry. He could be a big lump for all I know as I’ve never seen him play.

But seems a decent buy if you are buying out of the bargain bin like they are.

Forster is the one for me. We know how good he is after all. There’s more risk with Barkas simply because he is an unknown.

I still think Forster will come. The situation hasn’t changed. Celtic want him and Southampton don’t. If Southampton give him a big enough payoff he will be a Celtic player. That’s the sticking point right now. I think Southampton are looking about to see if there are any other takers.

I’ve possibly missed something so apologies in advance.

I understand he’s made 9 appearances in the last 3 years and has accumulated zero pounds in transfer fees at the age of 32. This is Katic’s replacement ?!

This confirms they are absolutely broke.

  9. Hi Fellow Celtic Fans. 😊

Only one language will be understood. A 9 Points Penalty Deduction plus a fine for a first and second infringement would be understood. Third strike and your out with a 3-0 win awarded to opponents for any remaining games. Lives are too important to be messed with.

I also think that each club should thermal test every individual on entry with a certified calibrated IR Thermometer and reserve the right to refuse admittance where someone’s temperature is over an agreed limit. This obviously would need to be rigorously and independently policed (“I’m sorry Mr Edouard and Mr Brown…”), but perhaps could be filmed by Sky, a bit like a Weigh-in? Football, especially Scottish football, is crazy as no other Business would have a problem with this and would see it as just routine.

I have mixed feelings about the goalkeeper situation. LAST Season Fraser Forster had a point to prove, and he did this in spades, but there is no guarantee that he can replicate or improve on this form for THIS Season. If Forster’s thinking is all about maximising his income, and there is nothing wrong with that, then we may be better served with a top-class goalkeeper (Barkas?) who is really HUNGRY to PROVE themselves THIS SEASON to be at least as good as Fraser Forster, without having to pay for a keeper who has proved himself to be worth what we cannot afford? 🤔 I don’t envy our decision-makers on this one, but trust them to do what is best for the club. I’m also not convinced by the infallibility thinking around Forster; yes, his continued presence would be a great morale-booster, but any keeper is perhaps just one penalty save or howler away from Glory or ignominy? 🤔 (Forster’s penalty save ratio is excellent of course! 😊). Decisions, Decisions…

    Yours in Celtic,

  12. Well when you think about the red card to Clark Kent then we have to ask why is there rules for them and others get punished,I’m astound that other clubs don’t object to the SFA and SPFL about the way they deal all things regarding The Untouchables. As for Fraser

Foster if he was coming back to Celtic he or his agent would have said so,

So the BBC manage to find someone to tell us ‘there’s no better centre back in the Championship’.

I admire how they find seek external sources to provide an impartial assessment of a players attributes.

It’s certainly a contrast to the impartial source they found to tell us about Christopher ‘slow on the turn’ Julienne.

I said something similar a few weeks ago on SFM when I heard that only Celtic and Ross County had invested in testing equipment. Celtic and every other team should be screaming from the roof tops over this . If you dont have the proper testing facilities in the top leaugue you should be booted out . Once again showing up the SFA as at best an amateur outfit. I worry about this season because I would never put it past sevco to try and use covid as an excuse to deliberately say they cant field a team , especially if they get off to a bad start in the leaugue . If we had a fwd thinking football organisation , they should have made it mandatory to have the testing equipment in place. With strict guidelines to be strictly adhered to . If not points ( not point ) deductions automatically deducted. Expulsion also an option for repeat cases . Imagine if a team in the EPL done what Rangers did , it would be all over national news and the guilty club rightly hammered . You almost get the feeling that some teams aint too bothered if the season never got played

Assuming you have a subscription to BT (Sport?) – which you need to access the football (legally) – then it will be some form of cable from your bt box to your TV, usually a HDMI cable nowadays.

You can access the Celtic Pass direct via a Web browser on your smart TV (this is not a TV channel as such, it is a direct connection via the Internet. I accessed it successfully yesterday.

    Hope that helps.

the railway tunnel at the bottom left , going on to Janefield Street, had a chip shop in the next arch.

sometime around 76, in a miserable end of season, we got back to our bus that was parked just at the bend with the Fitba boots and the ball on the bobbles.

Our bus was broke down, and we sat as the other half dozen busses left, leaving us on our own, as the darkness came. We got sent for chips, I was the oldest. Got served, came out and a gang of locals was there eho decided to chase us back to the bus.

Then all hell broke loose, the bus got stoned, the men on oand off swopping punches with the local men now, We were barricaded on the bus with the seats up against the broken windows.

Funny what memories a picture can evoke.
