Season in jeopardy with rule breaking

375

So far, it is clear that Covid hygiene rules were not followed at St Mirren, where seven non-playing staff tested positive for the virus.  Additionally, the SFA have launched an investigation into allegations Newco fielded nine players against Dundee United on Wednesday without receiving the required negative test results.

The anomaly came to light because Newco arranged two games on Wednesday.  Motherwell, their opponents in the second game, had their results delayed by the same testing backlog.  This brought attention to the fact that neither club received the all-clear until Wednesday evening, several hours after the Newco-Dundee United game.

There are significant health and commercial risks at play here.  The seven staff at St Mirren could easily (and may have) infect the playing staff.  If St Mirren then played a game, the virus would almost certainly infect not only the rest of the team but their opponents.  Games involving these teams would be postponed for weeks, perhaps months.  Dozens of carriers would travel home from that game and Scotland would have a fresh wave to worry about.

The SFA Joint Response Group reached a deal with the Scottish Government on how and when to return to training and then games, all predicated on safety rules being adhered to.  Celtic, and others, have transformed their stadiums into an environment where socially distanced spectators can attend safely and be seen to do so.

They want fans back soon and wait on Government clearance.  That possibility disappeared yesterday, when allegations emerged that one club has been cheating.  Football is as trustworthy as its greatest rogue.  I doubt the SFA considered how to discipline a club that flaunts Covid rules and risks the entire game in this country.  No fine would be large enough to match the financial consequences for others.

There is no infection at Ibrox, the pain of any breach there will be felt by fans of all clubs not attending fixtures until later.  St Mirren were less negligent but their issue is more serious and spooked me.  If this happened in my workplace, when most others have returned to work, it could threaten the entire business.  We are going to move into a stage when most of the world is getting on with things, and some businesses will be halted by infection, acute illness and worse.

I have spoken to staff at Celtic who have been impressed at the processes in place to protect club employees from infection, from everything I hear, we are getting things right.  The evidence elsewhere is that others are complacent.  If that is allowed to continue, next season and the health of many is in jeopardy.

You have to wonder what’s in the water at Ibrox with the incessant flouting of rules.

Hope the birthday celebrations are still going and your still enjoying the Gin :-)

On the VST stuff hope all goes well with everybody getting logged on and tomorrow and Monday will be hopefully to get things sorted for “flag day” next Sunday … plenty of complaining about the VST (not necessarily from ST holders) so far I think the club have done excellent in this very strange & difficult time

  2. It was scoreless at half time, Coventry made 9 changes at half time, Huns kept starting eleven on.

The fat guy had a miserable game, was subbed & went straight up the tunnel,

Reckon they are desperate to get shut of him at this stage, if they get a half decent bid.

From the DR, spot the obvious…..

The Scottish Premiership side huffed and puffed in a tough first half when Coventry defended well but a much improved outfit emerged after the break.

While Coventry’s nine substitutions will have contributed to that, Hagi, Kent and Aribo all began to get forward at will and perhaps the only surprise was Steven Gerrard’s men didn’t win by more.

I think Morelos only goal in 2020 was a badly defended header at a Hamilton (which he nearly missed :-) … pandemic aside 1 goal in 7 months could destroy the confidence of any striker at any level :-) long may his “form” continue

  5. I dont think many supporters are complacent, I sure as hell am not, but I think we need to show some trust in the people who steered us to 9 so far. I dont know if we will get 10, but I am sure we will sign a 1st choice keeper and a couple more besides.

I would like it done quicker, but not at the cost of simply adding players no better than those who have left (would happily take foster or equal standard of gk).

If we dont get what’s needed then I will be the first to criticise the board but it’s a little early to be throwing mud. In my estimations we are a 1st choice gk away from having a team equal to the team that done the 9 and 1 left sided centreback away from being a better team.

To me that is a sobering thought after releasing and returning loan players returning to their own clubs going into double figures.

Where has that come from, unless we have a replacement would be nuts!

Any info who signed Bayo ?

    Peter Lawell

    Brendan

    Or Kolo Toure

A loan to St Mirren is a good move, let the Bayo Bhoy play every week and hopefully score plenty of goals and get much needed game time … unlike many others I think Leigh will have a big impact on the field this coming season … Griff = Goals :-)

I don’t think Stephen Fletcher would be a bad (back up) option at all … others might disagree … We have 4 realistic trophies to win 20/21 … Spl, Betfred & 2 Scottish cups … get him signed

    From Celtic star

EX-HIBS midfielder Tam McManus has claimed that 33-year-old Steven Fletcher is very keen on a move to Celtic.

  10. Prestonpans bhoys

I’m quite keen on a move to Celtic myself, but i wouldn’t sign myself either 😝

I see Chris Sutton has nicked my midweek CQN post on our 4 strikers, almost word for word, naughty bhoy Chris :D

  11. Sid 8.28pm

At least big Chris didn’t nick your post from January 2020

“ I’m happy to go on record and say i think Sevco will finish on minimum 94 points, so imo we need at least that to prevai”

Obviously pre Covid but it keeps appearing on my timeline :-) I must have “liked” it at the time :-)

And what does Huns forums think about some of their stars, even the DR would not be so honest:

    Morelos:

He’s carrying extra junk, of that there’s no doubt. Gone are all those angry off-ball bursts of pace to get space, and now he’s mostly jogging around. Doesn’t look fit, can’t score a tee, and while he’s linking up well enough, and assisted great for Aribo, it’s not his job. In short, he’s causing opposing defences no damage himself. 5

    Helander:

Out since November and it showed. Dreadful, miles off the pace, and was exposed repeatedly. 4

You got any new chestnuts ?

I think Steven Fletcher could be a terrific addition … if Neil wants him

  14. Steven fletcher, is that the height of our ambition . Hope lawell isn’t reading that , if he is it could happen .

  15. I know many will disagree but I think Beram Kayal would be a very useful addition to the squad.

He knows the score up here, he is oven ready, he is only 32 and is a free agent.

  16. JimTim, If any truth in it, he would be back up to Eddie & Polish Paddy.

He could do a job for us in the SPFL,

If he does come where would that leave The Griff,

I think a loan move for Bayo would be the right thing for both parties.

I think there is still a chance he could come good but he needs regular games & he won’t get them at Celtic.

  17. If we don’t get the 10 it’s Lawells fault

If we get the 10 it’s despite Lawell

Peter Lawell is a far more fervent Celtic fan than 99% of his detractors …

Jim read Sids post.am surprised a good Tim like yirsel bites at every bit of bit of info from our meeja.2012 proved it. Why believe anything they say do or act on.Get a grip, huddle up and HWGTIART :-(

As a man who likes a flutter, i thought you may have taken into account, i was trying to predict something that was between a 50/1 to 100/1 shot, with 19 games to play. Technically I wasn’t wrong Sevco finished on 67 points with 9 games to play, I’ll let you do the maths 😀

Here’s a list of Celtic players, I’ve posted not good enough, a full year ago, despite poster’s telling me I’m wrong. i see more of Celtic, I’ll stick to that.

    Bayo

    Morgan

    Bolingoli

    Shved

    Arzani

    Atchison

    Okoflex😂

I said none were capable of effectively contributing, one year on, none have.

I also posted disgusted that we had signed Sevco reject, Liam Burt, someone my dad had seen in every minute of every game, every minute of every training session. He now struggles to play for our development squad.

Here’s this year’s predictions, Klimala, Soro, will be squad players at best, both not ready or good enough , Celtic need another striker, we’ll see if Im right?

Proud you’re keeping my posts saved, remember and keep this one too, wish I’d saved your Griffiths is better than Dembele posts 😂

O.K. I’ll bite. You are obviously a fervent fan, no question about that. For argument’s sake, just say we don’t get the 10. Would you blame anyone? If so, who? Genuine questions.

Maths is probably my only strong point

Technically you might not have been “incorrect” but between your post in early January and lockdown 23rd of March am pretty sure the Huns wouldn’t have got near your points total … and if you “remember” out of the two of us I can assure you it wasn’t me who stated “keeping” posts … but am sure you will airbrush that just like I said … Leigh was a more natural goalscorer than Moussa … IN MY OPINION … by the way feel free to let the blog read what your original post was regarding me … am pretty easy with it … again if you can remember you saved my “shoite” first … remember if you are going to tell fibs you need a very good memory :-)

Peter Green R I P The very BEST blues guitarist ever.

*absolutely, one hit of acid too many

*I was friendly with a couple of blues-minded guitar enthusiasts over here who even knew who Alvin Lee and TWA were. They would talk about John Mayal and Clapton is god etc. One day they asked me who I thought was the best guitarist, my response was Peter Greenbaum, who?? was the response.

i said he was the founder of Fleetwood Mac, thinking of Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham, who is a fine musician incidentally, they looked at me quite aghast.

I said no not that FM but the original group, do you like Black Magic Woman, definitely was the response, Carlos Santana !!!!, I said Peter Green, as he went by, wrote that, go and look it up.

Next day they were raving about him, felt like saying “don’t ask me what I think of you I might not give the answer that you want me to”

  23. Nothing I like better during pre season anxieties than to go and find a task to keep me off CQN for a few hours then enjoy the reading back in the hope that we’ve signed a superstar and all our worries are over.

Just back In after collecting and stacking 297 bales of hay and now struggling to do the one figure typing. Enjoyed the read back and (mostly) measured tones…. I know, I know….and optimism that the goalkeeping situation seems to be getting sorted and other moves may be afoot. ( talking about the sensible ones).

Also saw this on Twitter by someone or something called Timed. I like to think it is Ed the Tim or Tim Ed: either way it made me titter:

THINGS I TRUST MORE THAN DONALD TRUMP :
