Season not viable for Celtic’s internationals

137

After being cuffed away to Kazakhstan and Belgium, and humbled at home by Russia, the four Celtic players in tonight’s Scotland squad to face Belgium at Hampden would be forgiven for wanting the European Championship 2020 campaign over as soon as possible.

More to the point, you and I really don’t want to see Callum McGregor, James Forrest, Ryan Christie or new boy Greg Taylor playing competitive football into June and July, a whole year after Celtic’s season started and days before next season is due to begin.

A defeat tonight would allow Steve Clarke to play out the remainder of the campaign by experimenting with his squad, unburdened by the pressure of qualification.  Callum McGregor, in particular, could do with some down time during the October and November international breaks.  Celtic players will have two games a week outside of international breaks until the middle of December.  The season is not viable for them to constantly be under this level of playing pressure.

    Cheers guys for getting back.

Reason for asking is to check with whatever pub we are going to that it is OK for Wee BGFC to bring his guitar & accordion, and for us to have a wee sing-song.

Big Odsone – some footwork big man – keeper hasn’t a clue how Eddie teleported himself past the defender then thundered the ball like a rocket into the roof of the net.

  4. Good news, we can only a) stay the same, or b) get better. We SHOORLY can’t get any worse……can we?

  5. Are there any Scottish players lurking out there than the ones the esteemed Mr Clarke is picking?….and I’m even talking juniors here

  6. Can the clubs no call for a vote of no confidence in the bowling club blazers? While they’re at it can they bin that dirge of a national anthem. Embarrassing singing it after the referendum.

Canny even be played properly on the bagpipes.

    When’s the real fitba back?

    Shankland or Mcburnie?

  8. If this result does not make the tartan army demand a removal of the sfa and its ways of doing things nothing will, the SFA will cling to power and stay on board the gravy train, it’s now up to the supporters, keep schtum or remove them by stopping their income, choices, nobody should have any confidence in anything the sfa do, they will throw out squirrels womens football etc. to hide their failures , fire the whole lot of them and their cliques.

Steve Clarke’s no mug , he surely must have known what he was signing up for . The Crawford , Cameron and Campbell brigade will flush him down the pan while continuing to enjoy all the perks their position allows .

As the Euro 2020 Qualifiers crawl to a conclusion, here is a list of the Giants of the game, who are below Scotland in terms of qualifying form. An outlier, is Portugal, but they have only played three qualifiers:

Montenegro, Bulgaria,, Luxembourg, Serbia, Lithuania, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Gibraltar, Azerbaijan, Malta, Faroe Islands, Latvia, Moldova, Latvia, Andorra, San Marino, Greece and Liechtenstein.

That’s the company we rub shoulders with these days.
