Season tickets renewed. Of course.

151

You know me.  There was never any chance of me not renewing my season ticket.  I’ve been there for the nine, I was there for Oldco’s nine, so hell would freeze over before I would miss next season.  But even acknowledging that, I wanted to see what the deal was before signing up.

I renewed today.  From September or October, some of us could be allowed back into Celtic Park, it will be later before the stadium is full.  I know how important this season is.  When I review our finances, every year I note the importance of season ticket sales in allowing Celtic to plan and keep the lights on.

Watching on TV is well short of the real thing, but I can afford the tickets, and the consumer value of this year’s proposition is not really an issue, I just wanted to know what it was before putting my card details in.

The economy has skewed in the last four months.  While some have earned every overtime hour available and others have seen bank balances rise as they’ve spent practically nothing, others became unemployed or are facing that prospect.  If you are a Celtic fan who has lost their income having supported the club through two, or even three, periods of Scottish football being dominated by nine-in-a-row runs, missing out on next season will be an added indignity.  There will be many in this situation.

I know how important season ticket revenue is under normal circumstances.  With the collapse of retail, hospitality, and other stadium income streams, that has never been truer. For those of us who can, we are here for 10, be it at home, distanced in a half-filled stadium, or celebrating with 60,000 friends.

  1. Am I missing something here?

CQN posters are calling Celtic spend unprecedented amounts to buy FF , get French Eddie tied up with golden handcuffs and add a wee extra bit of quality around the squad… then complain about having to pay full price for a season book?

We can’t have it both ways guys?

I’ll renew on the 30th for mine and my daughter. Perhaps our refunds will be here by then even via Pedro’s pony express😱

It seems to me it’s the club who is trying to have it both ways, por cierto

  4. Celtic should be ashamed about this whole ticket renewal fiasco . They have made the whole 10 IAR an excuse to act like cold hearted wide boys , lets not beat about the bush here they are cold hearted b@@@@ards . This is on top of deliberately making it difficult to claim a refund on last season and on the back of saying/doing diddly squat about the whole Res 12 charade with the SFA. A lot of fans are genuinely worried about their future , many have earned little or nothing the past few months and some probably dont know when the next pay cheque is coming from . UTTERLY SHAMELESS BAST@@@S

  5. That’s it. No more from me on this. I’ve had my say, getting fed up listening to me :)) por cierto

What have these sheisters actually given the support who pay their wages? They have shown a complete lack of a moral compass, just like their Tory pals in Westminster.

  7. 1. Want 10IAR, need money to fund it.

    2. Season book the major part of revenue. Need revenue.

    3. Create a product to meet extraordinary circumstances and put it out there for punters to choose.

    4. Some people who can’t, sadly won’t.

    5. Then sell to the first person on the waiting list.

    6. Sell as many books as possible.

    7. See point 1.

  8. One season, just one season,is it so hard ,if you can afford it,to buy your ST.The fans want Foster,Eddy, and more new signings. They cost big money.Especially this season,is it not possible to stop the griping, and just accept, that if you dont back the club, all the great work in the past 9 years, will have been for nothing.

I take some comfort in the fact that this blog is not a Barometer of how the majority of fans think.Asking my mates, and family ST holders,if they are renewing, around 20 in number, they have all answered “Of course”.Most have already done so.Would anyone really like to lose their seat, forever, for the sake of one season.

A team that has now won 9IAR?

A balance sheet that helps keep the club going in critical times?

  10. The club should be promising to do everything they can to ensure as many home games as possible.

We can’t predict how many domestic home cup games and CL Qualifiers we will have next season but they should be put on the season books.

Apologies, I meant during this present crisis…..DVD out soon as well I assume…

  12. Garngad to Croy on

One ticket renewed out of three, it is too much of an unknown to justify the expense when your next wage could be your last.

I did not plan to apply for a refund but the Club/Company has played this wrong and I will now apply for a refund and put it towards the one ticket that is being renewed.

  13. Wholeheartedly agree with Paul’s article here.

I appreciate financial circumstances for many will weigh heavily as they juggle the merits of renewing.

However, I imagine those who are able to renew will do.

Success comes at a price. The harsh reality is that fans have a huge contribution to make in meeting that price.

    Good health to all.

    ____

    To an extent.

The club has had cash reserves that were kept for a rainy day. That was obviously a wise move.

It’s hard to say if the club could afford to reduce prices without looking under the hood.

  15. Through the rain on

I am probably very slow but can someone explain to me why a full refund of cancelled games last season is Celtic not acting in good faith?

    Confused CSC

  16. Does this mean that the Barrowfield development will be shelved? We aren’t going to have an AGM til late in the year.

The club should communicate to the fans more.

  17. Celtic are in a precarious financial situation at the moment.

It’s just as well we have / had some reserves.

Just about all our revenue streams have dried up, but we still have massive outgoings.

If you can afford to renew, then do it.

You don’t need to be a disciple of Adam Smith to see the consequences.

I can only assume the most vocal against the ST plans would not complain if we sold Eddie to make up a fall off in sales.

Otherwise they wouldn’t be making much sense.

  21. No one is being forced to buy a season ticket.

    A refund is available.

I’m no lover of the suits but this pandemic has presented many financial difficulties for fans , and those responsible for running Celtic fc/ Plc .

I will trust them with this one .

Every Tim wants the 10 .

There’s no easy answer unless we sell Eduard or Cal Mac , but thankfully that’s not an option that’s been mentioned. KTF .

    Excellent.

So good, in fact, I have decided to renew today ( sorry Jobo !!). :-))

Seriously, having read the various posts, I have decided that , if I want my team to remain successful, then I have to renew.

As a Pensioner, my income has not been affected by Lockdown etc. Had it been so, I would have made economies elsewhere to ensure I could still buy my ST.

No matter what language we use, Life is about trying to be happy. Being a Celtic Season Ticket Holder helps make me happy.

There may well be some current ST holders who genuinely cannot afford to renew as they have already made all the savings possible and, for them , I have genuine sympathy.

There are many things in life that many of us cannot afford but ,for me few, if any, of these are missed as much as the loss of a seat at Celtic Park would be.

  25. The virtual season ticket is shameless greed in its purest form. It’s indefensible and utterly embarrassing.

Weird how people are so desperate to stay ahead of a team they have spent years calling a new club with no history.

HOTEL DE PARIS on9TH JUNE 2020 11:55 AM

In advance of the Season Ticket (virtual) pricing issued yesterday, we learnt that Celtic had entered into contract talks with Eddie combined with Lenny’s plea that “we need the fans more than ever as we go for the 10. Of course Lenny’s plea should have more accurately read “we need the fan’s money more than ever”. Downing Street would have been proud of such propaganda.

I have previously warned that, in addition to the Board plundering the Profit and Loss account for their own financial benefit, they had allowed the operational cost base to rise to unsustainable levels. The fans are now being asked to pay for the Board’s larceny and failings. I feel sorry for any family group of STH who, in order to “retain” their seats, are being asked to pay over £70 to watch a game on TV – for an unknown period.

Given that it was money already spent I had no intention of applying for a season 19/20 refund. However having witnessed the underhand manner in which Lawwell notified the support of the availability of refunds, both forms now completed and posted. Prior to reaching a decision on renewal I want to know if the Board are sharing some of the pain and to what extent.

  28. It seems the virus is on its way out -run its course -nearly gone.

Big crowds – public gatherings have already been allowed – so theres no justification for football without fans .

  29. Have to laugh at Barry Fry. Ivan Toney has one decent season in league one and he’s trying to punt him for £15 million!

One year left on his contract. What a chancer.

  30. David17,

I am not sure it really is yet.

I’d like to know the clubs stance on the Cup games outside of the League games.

If it is All inclusive I will be happy enough as long as we do Everything to keep improving our Team.

I would not want to leave the home cup scheme but in these truly Unique circumstances, if getting charged for 2 Adults now (Aidan is full 545 price), then I just cannae justify that.

    Need mair Clarity.
