SEB SCORELESS STALEMATE

SEBASTIEN POCOGNOLI got his Scotland managerial career off to a scoreless stalemate in Slovenia this afternoon.

Two dreadful misses from Oli McBurnie, making his international return after five years in the wilderness, and Kieron Bowie denied the Belgian a debut victory and the Scots three points in the Nations League opener.

Pocognoli watched his new-look side dominate their opponents in the second-half, but they just could not claim the breakthrough strike.

It looked as though McBurnie was about to give the visitors the lead six minutes after the turnaround as he skipped through the defence with only Jan Oblak to beat.

The Hull City striker attempted to race around the keeper, but the Slovenian captain dived to pluck the ball from the comeback man’s toes.

WHAT A MISS…Kieron Bowie fails to hit the target from close range.

Bowie’s miss in the 78th minute was even worse after he had been set up with an excellent through pass from the impressive Billy Gilmour.

The former Hibs frontman, now with Verona, had the entire goal to aim at, but weakly trundled a shot yards wide of he left-hand post.

Colby Donovan, the solitary Celt in the squad following Kieran Tierney’s injury-enforced withdrawal, was left out of the matchday squad.

The 20-year-old right-back will be hoping to get the nod from Pocognoli to be involved when the Scots face Switzerland at Hampden on Tuesday night.
