The headlines screamed today of secret meetings between Sevco owner, Charles Green, and SPL chairmen, as Green attempted to convince them to change direction and vote Sevco into the SPL.  Jim Spence reported exactly the same on the BBC at the weekend, crucially adding how little impact the pleas had and that the SPL vote was certain to go against Sevco.

‘News’ that three clubs were prepared to back Green is just another way of reporting that at least eight clubs will vote against.  A suggestion (which came from Kilmarnock) that SPL clubs vote in secret ballot instead of an open show of hands is laughable and will be dismissed.

Tomorrow’s SPL meeting will be a lot less significant than today’s Scottish Football League meeting.  More on this later.

    Coming from a wee Hun infested village as a boy, a 18 year old during the hunger strikes I have fought my battles with these guys over the years, this is a more emotive subject than any of this stuff gone past.

     

     

    There will be public disorder, in my opinion if Celtic make a statement against the Newco.

    Had Celtic lead the way in advocating the prosecution of rangers for their misdemeanours they would have polarised Scottish football between ourselves and them.

     

     

    I firmly believe that given their previously shown enmity towards us many of the other clubs in that situation would not have supported the Celtic line preferring to side with the ‘less bad for Scottish football’ alternative.

     

     

    I think therefore our board have played this issue perfectly which I would paraphrase as We will do what we think is right for Celtic consistent with the needs of Scottish football.

     

     

    You couldn’t criticise that even with a different agenda.

    James fans of other clubs don’t love us. They don’t love sevco. At the moment it is a coice between the integrity of the game or financial gain with 30 pieces of silver. If we get involved it will polarise the support of other clubs and the debate would be Celtic or Sevco. And that is the least of it. At this point it would gain little other than to soothe some pride and could potentially lose us much. I am not sure when Celtic should officially comment , soon yes , but after the SFl and SPL has condemned sevco to div three, if they can field a team. Hail Hail.     NewCo’s action in going to the civil court placed our club in jeopardy. They were never punished for it and will not be punished for it. We say nothing.

     

     

    When do we come out from under the bed? There are issues here bigger than the collapsing facade at Ibrox. The soul of the sport is at stake in Scotland.

     

     

    Our silence is appalling.

    It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment. This sweltering summer of the Negro’s legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning. And those who hope that the Negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual. And there will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted his citizenship rights. The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.

     

     

    But there is something that I must say to my people, who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice: In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Go back to Mississippi, go back to Alabama, go back to South Carolina, go back to Georgia, go back to Louisiana, go back to the slums and ghettos of our northern cities, knowing that somehow this situation can and will be changed.

    why do the DR/SUN report that cee lo is willing to accept a reduction in influence and income on behalf of the’OF’?

     

    cee lo doesn’t own a football club, it’s not even clear that he owns the ground at which a now defunct football club used to play.

     

    Cee lo’s purchase of the assets of the former club are conditional on a new football club being allowed to play in the same competitions that the former club used to play in.

     

    Given that it now looks very unlikely that there will be a new club associated with cee lo playing in any competition next season, would it surprise anyone if he walks away today or tomorrow?

     

    Cee lo hasn’t actually paid for the assets yet, Duff & Phelps are still on the plot, CW is hanging about like the smell of sh1te in a pig-sty, 1000 (give or take) suckers are going to be looking for a refund, at least one police investigation is underway, former players and agents will soon be hearing from Hector, a liquidator is about to start ripping up the patio.     There is imho no chance that the SFA/SPL/SFL will be allowed to defy the majority of football fans without UEFA stepping.

     

     

    I dont think we will have much longer to wait.

    I’ll accept that when you show me the UEFA regulation that says they have to intervene because fans aren’t happy.

     

     

    Let me say what I’ve said a million times. If the SPL/SFA/SFL can come up with a solution that gets the backing of the clubs … UEFA will NOT move an inch. UEFA will leave this to the domestic association to sort out.

     

     

    Be under no illusions about their involvement. It will not happen barring one of the member clubs taking a case to them. And if the other member clubs have voted for something, that’s all she wrote.

    If there is not a saying “If you do not value/love yourself enough, then how can anyone else/” then there is now.

     

     

    This can apply to Scottish Football and those who run it. The game brings itself down because it does not value itself. For a nation who produced a list of footballers who could have played alongside Iniesta, Xavi and Alonso and look comfortable, for a nation that scored more goals against the team with those guys in it than any other nation in the last 18 months, it is clear we do not value ourselves. We think we are praire chickens * and Sky are one of the current mother hens telling us that we are.

     

     

    I calculated a couple of years back that Sky take £109M from subscribers in Scotand. I have seen two other estimates in the past two days that are £19M short of that and the other way higher. The point is Sky earn a significant amount of money from Scottish subscribers and we should know how much and, if we truly value ourselves, demand a contract that reflects what Sky earn from their Scottish subscriber base.

     

     

    With BT Vision entering the Sky market there is now a competitor to broadcast our game and if BT have any acumen they have the perfect opportunity to present themselves as supporters of a game in need of help and ready to value that potential customer base.

     

     

    So rather than focus on the potential loss because no one likes us, why not look at alternatives because we value ourselves? We have every right to do so, our ethics are screaming that message to the world and to ourselves.

     

     

    UEFA have it in their Vision Europe mission statement an aim of assisting associations who need help and spend revenue to help the solidarity of the game . Why are they not being approached for help? £16M is peanuts to them.

     

     

    Are the SFA/SPL a reflection of a dysfunctional mindset that not only cannot admit it needs help but actually seeks refuge in the “no one likes us ” mentality that makes a solution that truly values our game impossible because they fear the unknown of being valued?

     

     

    Jabba and co too think they are prairie chickens, and act like the mother hen. Charles Greene is another, read The Paririe Chicken story and his latest statement..

     

     

    This is an opportunity for Scottish football to stop grubbing around for worms on the prairie floor and take wings and fly. It is not the men in charge that is the problem, it is the thinking that permeates our game.

     

     

    Time to stop grubbing and holding on to the ground, time to change our minds, time to fly.

     

     

    The Prairie Chicken Story.

     

     

    There once was an Apache brave that was walking down the trail when he discovered an eagle’s egg had fallen out of it’s nest. He looked up and saw that the nest was too high for him to return the egg. So he placed the egg in a nearby prairie chicken nest.

     

    When the egg hatched, the little eagle thought he was a prairie chicken. Prairie chickens stay on the ground and eat only worms and grubs. So, as the eagle grew, he ate nothing but worms and grubs and walked around with the other prairie chickens.

     

    One day, he looked up in the sky and saw some eagles soaring high above. He asked one of the prairie chickens, “How can they fly up there while we are down here eating worms and grubs?”

     

    The prairie chicken answered, “They are the eagles, they can do that but we must stay down here. We are prairie chickens and that is what we do.”

     

     

    So, the eagle spent the rest of his life flying very little and eating worms and grubs just because he was told that was all he could do.
