Secret meetings and sensationalist news

205

The headlines screamed today of secret meetings between Sevco owner, Charles Green, and SPL chairmen, as Green attempted to convince them to change direction and vote Sevco into the SPL.  Jim Spence reported exactly the same on the BBC at the weekend, crucially adding how little impact the pleas had and that the SPL vote was certain to go against Sevco.

‘News’ that three clubs were prepared to back Green is just another way of reporting that at least eight clubs will vote against.  A suggestion (which came from Kilmarnock) that SPL clubs vote in secret ballot instead of an open show of hands is laughable and will be dismissed.

Tomorrow’s SPL meeting will be a lot less significant than today’s Scottish Football League meeting.  More on this later.

    Celtic Football Club statement

By: Newsroom Staff on 10 May, 2012 09:34

CELTIC Football Club has today issued a statement regarding the ongoing situation in Scottish football.

The Chief Executive said: “We are fully aware of our supporters´ concerns regarding the current situation across Scottish football and the breadth of opinion within our supporter base.

“The issues are complex and there is much uncertainty. Indeed, the situation repeatedly changes, even on a daily basis. I am sure our supporters understand that these developments are receiving our full focus and attention.

“Our guiding principle is that we will do what is in the best interests of Celtic Football Club and our supporters, consistent with upholding the interests and reputation of Scottish football.”

Had we stated our position then the press would have asked for an update at every twist and turn on the road since then.

Had the noises emanating from other clubs in the interim suggested they were to be exonerated yes I would have supported stronger action. But since the SPL and then SFL clubs in turn have publicly rejected them despite the threats and rumours I still think we’ve played it correctly by not wading in and being seen to try to lead the rest toward our preferred outcome.

  2. @BBCchrismclaug: #Rangers chairman Malcolm Murray apologises to Scottish football for the current mess.

Agreed now if you truly mean that why don’t you say you’ll go to division 3.

I think that the Celtic board has done the right thing in not saying anything

Somebody posted earlier the statement that Peter Lawell made at the end of the season, nothing has changed really as far as Celtic are concerned

It is about Scottish Football, so quite rightly the other clubs should be given the chance to speak out , I have absolutely no doubt how Celtic feel on this matter, none at all

I think that the next person that posts the most used quote on CQN

Don’t disturb your enemy while they make mistake’s

should have to make a £10 donation to a given charity

I do not believe that there will be any votes on the following basis:

    – The documentation submitted to the SPL by Sevco will be materially failing in any number of respects and will not be suitable for a vote. So the likely outcome of tomorrow’s SPL meeting is that Sevco’s documentation will be rejected by the SPL , and the SPL lawyers will point out to the SPL Chairmen that they cannot vote because the details is missing, SFA license is missing and the ruels prohibit a transfer of football licenses …..

    – The SFL have nothing to vote on, yet. All they have is a rubbish powerpoint documentation with a 2 page back-up document on Governance, the authors of which will be roasted alive at the SFL meeting.

So, no votes this week, the lawyers will step in and the clock moves on …. next step Sevco apply to Div 3 which will be rejected in short measure probably late next week.

If Dunfermline are not re-instated by cop this week then I believe that they will request the removal of the Doncaster and new elections for the SPL Board … this should get the SFA AT moving!

Thank goodness everyone seems to be in agreement now, that the Celtic Board are absolutely correct in their strategy here (as usual) ……. It is absolutely vital that the focus is kept on RIL…….even though the LL are doing their best to blame anyone other than RIL…..pathetic little toads….

  12. Not much information received, from the 4 and a half hour meeting today! I didn’t like statements,or the look on the faces, of the S.F.L chairmen today.

What I read into it ,was, “there is a very good chance,A majority of us,are going to give in to,the morally deficient, corrupt Hampden IDIOTS,and take the SHEKELS”.

Maybe,in the words of shuggie keevins-; “I’m just deluded and paranoid”.Time will tell, and tomorrow should be the start,of a very an interesting week indeed!!!

There ALWAYS seems to be,SOMEONE,that gets BLAMED,for things with nothing to do with them.

I couldn’t help but laugh at the STUPIDITY,and SIMMERING HATRED,of this interview. http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/exrangers-player-accuses-club-or-caving-into-to-celtic-of-top-flight-survival-deal-3158258.html?
