SEEING RED WITH MAD VLAD

SLOVAN BRATISLAVA boss Vladmir Weiss saw red as his team faltered in Kazakshtan in their efforts to face Celtic in the Champions League play-off first leg at Parkhead a week on Wednesday.

The veteran gaffer blew his top at referee Serdar Gozubuyuk after rivals Kairat had been awarded a 90th-minute penalty-kick to score the only goal of a fiercely-contest encounter to take a valuable lead to the Czech Republic capital for the second leg on Tuesday.

The Turkish match official had already dismissed Slovan midfielder Rahim Ibrahim after his second yellow card in the 65th minute and then further enraged Weiss by adding THIRTEEN minutes of stoppage-time.

CZECH, MATE…Arne Engels celebrates Celtic’s third goal via the penalty spot in the 5-1 Champions League victory over Slovan Bratislava at Parkhead last September.

The head coach will now be banned for the crucial return game as his team, captained by his son of the same name who had a previous stint at Ibrox, try to overcome the deficit.

Dastan Satpaev fired in the last-gasp spot-kick and the midfielder thought he had claimed a second in added-on time, but it was ruled out after a team-mate had strayed offside.

At full-time, a furious Weiss stormed onto the pitch to berate the ref and was immediately shown the red card. The veteran boss wasn’t finished, though.

He then headed for the fourth official to give him a piece of his mind before being hauled away by a member of his coaching team.

UEFA regulations dictate that Weiss will now serve a one-game touchline ban.

All eyes are now on Bratislava next week to see if Slovan, who were thrashed 5-1 by the Hoops in Europe’s elite competition in the east end of Glasgow in September last year, can overcome Kairat.
