“Sell Out Saturday, show everyone the SPL doesn’t need the Old Firm to thrive”. Discuss.

You have to admire the Aberdeen fans, and fans of every other club in the league, even Kilmarnock fans, who are clearly infuriated by the actions of their chairman.  For perhaps the first time in history they have stood up to their clubs and football administrators and effected real and genuine change in our game.

Aberdeen fans produced this Sell-out Saturday graphic, urging people to “show everyone the SPL doesn’t need the Old Firm to thrive”.  By ‘Old Firm’ I am sure they don’t mean the cash-cow rivalry Celtic had with Rangers, they mean without Rangers, and without Celtic too.

For every other club in the SPL, Celtic are now their most precious visiting brand.  For fans of every other club in the SPL, Celtic are a competitive irrelevance.  This season our income is likely to be greater than that of every other club in the league.  We pay superstar wages while, for the most part, they pay real world footballers real world compensation.

In short, the SPL doesn’t need the SPL to thrive.  The clubs may (or may not) believe they need Celtic to pay bills, but recent events have demonstrated that might not be the case.

There is another problem to consider.  If the SPL keeps Celtic, in a decade or so they will have Newco-Rangers, and the whole dysfunctional business will start all over again.  Kick Celtic out now and Newco-Rangers will never materialise in the manner it would if Celtic remained.

SPL fan power has one more club to sort out.

    Can’t understand CQNers who want to succeed in Europe by selling … Ki, one of our best ball players. If we have any European ambitions at all, we need to keep players like him, Ledley, Wanyama and King Sammi.

    Sad news about the Celtic shop in Derry! Know a lot of the ghuys who work their as i worked in the Belfast store a few years ago A victim of the current economic climate the store was generally quiet but still surprised! Hope they get sorted with jobs quickly!!

I am sure they have sons/ grandchildren that would benefit from their availability – it’s often easier to convert your own family to buying one next season if they enjoy the experience.

     

     

    We have a massive concourse around the stadium – why don’t we make better use of the space in terms of fundamental catering? The choice on offer is poor quality and expensive (queuing inside can be exasperating) – why not install some vending machines offering non-perishable; basic snacks, sweets, soft-pack drinks, programmes, souvenirs etc – the list is endless!

    If Ki wants out, there’s no use hanging on to him, but he’s made for the Euro ties. Someone said he won’t be available for the qualifiers – a big oversight in my opinion.

     

     

    I know you – you like direct players – but sometimes it’s a case of slowly slowly catchy monkey…

     

     

    No matter – like you, looking forward to watching the Celts.

    I can’t recall Ki dominating many spl games so fail to see why some feel he can produce in Europe.

     

     

    We’re well covered in central midfield and personally feel he would missed the least.

     

     

    Only one opinion that matters on this though….our managers.

    Bassa. Tried to get the game on Bet365. Try to place a bet, ( 3-0), Celtic obviously. Screen turns into Greek. Huvnae a clue whit to do.
