Semi-pro circuit a weak challenge for youths

196

A one-season trial in the Lowland League for Celtic’s B team, the fifth tier of Scottish football, got the green light yesterday.  It will present nowhere near the level of challenge I think our youth players need, but at least they will face men, not aspiring boys who themselves may end up on the semi-pro circuit.

They need to compete against sides the calibre of the Falkirk team that visited Celtic Park on Scottish Cup duty last month.  They are currently mid-table in League One, but have the wherewithal needed to test and develop the best of Celtic’s youths.

There was a hope that the current economic position of the SPFL’s lower league clubs would make them agreeable to any opponent that could muster more than a dozen visitors per game, but despite the financial argument, online fan pressure groups like to say “no” to pretty much anything, so that proposition never got off the ground.  We will see if the impact of forgoing this income to the benefit of the Lowland League changes minds going forward.

Beer gardens open in Ireland (with food i think) on 7 June which is a bank holiday. Carnage awaits!!

One of my locals has a big car park and last summer had a big gazebo with tables, horse boxes, an old fire engine with pizza stove etc ; plus TVs. Worked well with booking system.

As indoor food may come along soon, i think they are doing a more basic effort this year but still with TVs.

They said it will be first come first served so i have taken 14 June off for the Scotland game; turn up at 11am to make sure of a seat before the game at 2pm. Will probably be just me, my kilt and a few retired lads!!

The England game on Fri 18th at 8pm may be a bit harder to get into. Might have a BBQ at my gaff and bring a TV outside

I think your question is reasonable as it questions the honesty of the man that leads both the Unionists and the Brexiteers

  3. 2020/21

Vasilis Barkas – the Venus De Milo of goalkeepers.

Scott Bain – No presence, emergency back up level.

Conor Hazard- surprise selections given a new contract, decent back up.

Jeremie Frimpong – lovely wee player with the ball at his feet, what he does with it or when he doesn’t have it, wasn’t worth refusing millions.

Johnjo Kenny – the epitome of what you get on deadline day, when your’e desperate.

Stephen Welsh – Token Tim, thrown in at the deep end.

Chris Julien – record CB signing who might, or might not be back to his League Cup final best, next season.

Kris Ajer – firefighter of the year.

Shane Duffy – seemed like a good idea at the time, mistakes made him unselectable.

Diego Laxalt – the Sophie Ellis Bextor of left backs – murder on the dance floor,

Greg Taylor – too small, with no physique for a full back in the senior game.

David Turnbull – looks a decent signing who could flourish in a better Celtic system.

Calum MacGregor – good player, suffers from overplay, three mares on the trot at the Dome.

Scott Brown – past his best long before this season, no plan from the blind who thought 10 would win itself.

Ismaila Soro – tidy wee player, but no show stopper. Couldn’t dislodge SB from a system that was too inflexible.

Albian Ajeti – fat boy slim, fat boy slim ,fat boy slim, fat boy.

Odsonne Edouard – a header less chicken. Not the player he was for whatever reason.

Ryan Christie – the football equivalent of a shank in golf.

Patryk Klimala – did well to get our money back.

Leigh Griffiths – great poacher, but fitness is the problem.

James Forrest- took ten years to be recognised by some of the support.

Olivier Ntcham – had years to make it at Celtic will be offloaded somehow from the wage bill.

Tom Rogic- found a fitness level too late at Celtic, looks lost when selected, which may not be all his fault.

Mikey Johnston – always injured and looks very brittle.

MOI – on loan for two seasons says a lot, great disappearing act.

  4. Still no announcement on new manager. There has been no announcement of a new structure. Will there be a Director of Football? What will be the new scouting set up?

I realize that we cannot announce season tickets without information of when we can get into grounds,? How many Fans. Any away Fans? do we need masks etc? Lots of details need to be ironed out before we can offer the fans season books.

I also realize that we have a hostile media and we need to watch what we say as it will be spun against us.

However, I cannot believe that the Board have not been working diligently in the background on a new structure for the Football department. Surely, they can tell us more than they have revealed

The narrative on Howe is well developed but no valid reasons given for a hold up, If there are contractual reasons for Howe with Bournemouth then why is it not sorted within 6 months?

What would be wrong to say we are in discussions with Howe but he is not available at present?

What would be wrong with Howe saying he is in discussions with Celtic about the job but is not in a position to join presently,

All we have is 2 statements saying that the club is working on new management team. No further details

Would you not be better addressing that question to Brexiteers alone?

At least that way you wouldn’t be excluding the estimated 30% of SNP voters who voted to leave the EU.

And for all I would disagree with them on both counts, I would concede that they were at least logically coherent and consistent, unlike those who voted to remain in the EU but to leave the UK.

    ……………………………………

I do not recall seeing too many SNP Ministers/supporters being Filmed/interviewed etc next to Buses with £350 MILLION for the NHS on the side of any buses ?

I take issue with ANY One who Voted for Brexit, NO matter what Party they are in.

As for wanting to stay in the EU, but wanting rid of Westminster Unionist Sleaze and Corruption…nothing wrong with that.

Brexit was ” won” due largely to RACIST Voting in England…but again you already knew that didnt you…C’mon…own up ?

    …………

    Thank you young man.

Its FUNNY ( Well it would be funny if it wasnt so serious ?)…how NONE of the Unionists and/or Brexiteers NAVER bring up the subject of the NON Existent £350 MILLION that was Promised to the NHS….They steer well clear of any questions of Buses with slogans also…Funny that ?

I watch Politic TV programmes almost every day…I have YET to hear ANY Unionist of Tory Minister bring up the subject…and telling the nation exactly ” How much” of that proposed £350 MILLION a WEEK has ACTUALLY found its way into the NHS.

The Tory govt promised the NHS A 4% pay rise a wee while ago….the FACT is that they have only offered the NHS a lousy 1% Pay Rise…and at the same time I have watched that Lying Chump Boris and his Chancellor telling the nation in Parliament LITERALLY PLEADING….Feckin POVERTY….Saying that because of Covid implications…The UK can NOT afford to pay the NHS after all………..again I ask…Where is the Feckin £350 MILLION a WEEK that was promised ?

But it’s not true, and you know it’s not.

Here’s a question for you in return.

Big Jimmy, best to ignore him, his strategy is always the same. Ask lots of pre prepared questions, then when he is ignored call the person stupid/ignorant or some other childish name. He seems to get off on it, its very strange.

Always best to ignore particularly the cut n paste questions.

If I found myself on the same side of the argument as Johnson, Brexiteers, the Orange order, BNP, holocaust deniers, huns and of course Jayda Fransen like Ernie does I would probably get upset also. Give him some slack he has a lot of weight on his shoulders.

  19. Eddie Howe may join up with the British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa later this summer.

  27. Motherwell have approx 4500 season ticket holders and the Turnbull money in their pocket.

Yes nice gesture after challenging times…..but….

I’d prefer us to have as much money available as possible for next season, sorry, may sound insensitive but I just do.

Big rebuild, new regime needs backing.

  28. Like many on here and elsewhere, I am getting seriously fed up with no action from our board on the vacant managers job. I might well be wrong, but if Howe is holding out for a better deal possibly from the EPL, then to my book, he is not the man for us. He has got to WANT to be manager of Celtic, if not , goodbye.

There is loads of good possibilities out there, but the club must get their finger out, big time and stop treating us, the fans and lifeblood of Celtic, so disrespectively.

I say, forget all about Eddie Howe, and get us sorted, NOW

But it translates to a £30 million shortfall starting a season we’ve just lost.

    That’s the transfer budget.
