Semi-pro circuit a weak challenge for youths

196

A one-season trial in the Lowland League for Celtic’s B team, the fifth tier of Scottish football, got the green light yesterday.  It will present nowhere near the level of challenge I think our youth players need, but at least they will face men, not aspiring boys who themselves may end up on the semi-pro circuit.

They need to compete against sides the calibre of the Falkirk team that visited Celtic Park on Scottish Cup duty last month.  They are currently mid-table in League One, but have the wherewithal needed to test and develop the best of Celtic’s youths.

There was a hope that the current economic position of the SPFL’s lower league clubs would make them agreeable to any opponent that could muster more than a dozen visitors per game, but despite the financial argument, online fan pressure groups like to say “no” to pretty much anything, so that proposition never got off the ground.  We will see if the impact of forgoing this income to the benefit of the Lowland League changes minds going forward.

  1. The mention of LUSTIG got me reminiscing of a night in Lublin[Poland] of all places when with a few mates we happened to bump into Lustig Snr and his good Lady

This was when Mikael had just arrived and his faither was much surprised at his choice of club but said he was

telling them he was loving it there

His faither’s connection with Scotland was his love of whisky and he said he had visited a few distilleries in his travels

Anyways a right swally session took place and a good night was had [i think] by all

Following that encounter I was longing for him to do well I needn’t a worried

Oh for a bit of character like Lustig had but then again I was a bit biased

  2. Tonyrome – Same here look forward to meeting you and any other good Ole Bhoys that turn up.

An Tearman – Get your name on the list, I owe you a pint.

  3. Lustig had a big heart he would not shirk out of any confrontation and oozed confidence and a bit of arrogance added in, quality’s we are lacking in our current team.

Yip getting over the line with the 10 would have been a great time to introduce that step back, but I think we should still move in that direction.

Watched a few dutch games recently even “lower” level clubs where the jong teams are it’s all about technique, fitness, shape, movement. I think the jong teams brought more of that out in the lower level teams too.

Second division dutch defenders’ touch better than most mids and forwards over here at our “top” level. That’s no exaggeration.

  6. Lets await the cowardly UK’s political wing making a 50 year delayed apology. Think long and hard about that next time you’re in the Ballot Box. UK subjects in Derry and Ballymurphy massacred because of their race and religion.

That’s your UK in a nutshell.

Since the dismantling of the British Empire, the EU is largest marketplace the world has ever seen.

I find John K’s pressers absolutely soporific; each a masterclass in mindful, neutered rhetoric.

When asked if we could expect to ‘rummel it up’ in terms of team selection and fringe player opportunities, he says it’s important we finish the season with two, good performances. WHY? WHAT WOULD THAT DO?

Surely a lot like putting a maraschino cherry on a pile of puke; tops it off just nicely.

I wouldn’t care if we went with experimental line-ups and we lost by 3 or 4 goals in each meaningless game, as long as we got to see which fringe players had the hunger and skill to turn in eye-catching performances.

PS; Also got a sense that NOTHING is a done deal as far as the next guy in. What’s the end game, Dessie boy ?

  17. Saint Stivs 9.05pm

Whatever Shane Duffy hoped for or visualised when signing for Celtic, nothing went to plan . He fulfilled an ambition we all shared , to play for Celtic, but he was the high profile, fall guy, in a season that promised much but only delivered division and mistrust among our own.

Losing a loved one obviously had a huge effect on the guy . I wish him well.

I don’t think you grasp the feeling of total distrust in our PLC . The Motherwell gesture is a commendable one , and you’re correct , it can’t be compared in a like for like gesture with Celtic .

What can’t be argued is, that the board at Motherwell, have strived to do their best for the fans .

Meanwhile our boardroom is filled with individuals who share little in common with the support who buy season tickets .

They certainly haven’t strived to have the best football team possible on the park.

    “It’s 2021 “.

    The counter argument could be.

How come our rivals are claiming 55 ?

Is it a secret 5 way agreement ?

One that we knew nothing about ?

    There’s your shortfall. HH

Palestine being razed to the ground, Zionist Israeli settlers under the protection of Israeli forces carrying out on the spot evictions of Palestinian families, disgusted the British Govt standby and watch these international crimes, the inhumanity being suffered by the Palestinians as the world watches is a disgrace

Uncle Jimmy players throughout all levels are leaving Celtic FC the last two years have seen a dramatic decline in the football dept, standards have dropped beyond acceptable, any new management team has an enormous rebuild job within the football dept, as you say time is now just another battle for the new boss

The new management coming in doesn’t know who will scout and recruit players ? who sanctions the final pay off who writes the cheques ?

WHEN and WHERE EXACTLY did ANY Brexiteer NO MATTER what Party they belonged to at the time, EVER State/Say or paste another Slogan saying…” Any FUTURE Reference/QUESTION to our SLOGAN about the £350 MILLION a Week that was Promised…will be DEEMED AS…” SILLY and INANE” ?

    ” RACIST Brexit Vote” ?

Yet again ERNIE Boy YOU have deliberately FAILED to read my Posts correctly…I have Posted a few times on here in recent days that the ” Yes…. to Brexit Vote” was LARGELY a RACIST Vote….NOTE the Correct wording ERNIE…” LARGELY”….I have NEVER Stated/Posted that EVERY Brexiteer was/is a RACIST….FACT !”

    LOL

  28. Well Falkirk’s own young players who played against us in the Scottish Cup did pretty well against our first team. Though not as well as the young Sparta Prague side that arrived at Celtic Park back in November and went on to give us a football lesson. Regular games will certainly benefit young footballers at any level, especially if they go into games with a positive attitude, and a determination to improve as players, because that is what they will need to keep doing if they have any hope of ever playing for Celtic. Or anyone else for that matter.

  29. FRIERSDORFER..

it will be great to see you next Friday in my local Pub. I will Post nearer the time to make sure that everyone knows what Pub I mean…in case some dont know ?
