Send our players back to Lennoxtown as soon as possible

I know what you are worried about after last night’s Scotland performance, “He’s going to throw James Forrest in now.”  My feeling on the matter is that James, Callum and Kieran all need to ‘work on their fitness’ a bit.

Since managing Scotland for a few months in 2007, a period that included a 0-1 win in Paris, Alex McLeish has been found out in five subsequent appointments, ending ignominiously in North Africa.  He has the look of what he is, a man earning enough to make good on a tax bill that recently came his way, and nothing else.  Nice gig if you can get it.  He also selects players who are banned for life from the national team.

Scotland have the players to beat the 94th team in the world but were not sufficiently competent to fix up a manager who already lives in the country but manages in Belfast, or conduct an adequate search for an alternative.

The result of this, is that fans stopped caring, as do many players, by the look of it.  I don’t know a single person who was upset last night, the Scotland international football fascination is over.  The once great endeavour of football as a self-contained unit in Scotland is over, everybody knows it.  Send our players back to Lennoxtown as soon as possible, please.

  1. French authorities are investigating potential match-fixing in Paris St-Germain’s 6-1 Champions League win over Red Star Belgrade this month.

Both clubs have denied any wrongdoing.

In a statement, PSG expressed their “amazement and indignation”.

They added: “Paris Saint-Germain reiterates its commitment to a fundamental principle of sport, that of the integrity of competitions and therefore refutes any form of practice that could call into question that integrity.”

  8. WBC – Think we saw Tony Williams Lifetime in what is now the GFT. Only went because of Jack Bruce but followed Tony Williams since. Incredible musician, producer and all round genius. We’d just returned from Oktoberfest and the place was hoaching with enough cannabis smoke to chortle a bull, but the music was so relentless it was frightingly great

DD…frankie miller and i were apprentices together…1966 we travelled on the bus from rutherglen to cumbernauld and back every day. It was then I got to know him really well, sat with him at home listening to music, drinking tea, going to his gigs (sock ’em jb) and not drinking tea, standing in the jungle watching the bhoys after his lunchtime gig in burns’ cottage. For a period in the 70s we occasionally met up in london…our last social night was summer ’78 after doing a radio 1 show at the wimbledon theatre…he was/we were asked to leave the pub (he could be awfy cheeky)…my last sighting of him was disappearing up wimbledon hill in a van, shouting back out the window, “I’ll phone ye ra’morra.” I next saw him at wee Jinky’s funeral. He was in his wheelchair and accompanied by his partner and iain robertson, the actor. I approached and stood in front of him, he looked up, smiled and punched my arm…some guy!
