Sensational Celtic remains sound business plan

964

You know a transfer window approaches when practically every media outlet has a story on Celtic are set to lose an important player.  Transfer stories are one of the most reliable commercial ventures in business.  They require no effort to produce, or recopy, as most outlets appear to, do not need to lead anywhere, but income per word read brings in more advertising revenue than anything else the UK media.

The premise that Sir Alex Ferguson has shared his plans to sell and then buy with an external party is ridiculous.  The distraction this can cause to Celtic players is merely a by product.

Ordered the CQN Annual yet? Get it here in time for Christmas!

Those who comment on our game do manage to contort themselves sometimes.  Sky TV convinced themselves Arbroath manager Paul Sheerin’s demonstrable angst at full time last night was in connection to his side’s disallowed goal.  A less animated Paul then explained his actions were frustration at only having three minutes added time.  If he wants to get more TV time he’d better follow the script – be angry at Celtic!

The moment Neil Lennon’s interview ended Sky cut across him to assure us Lassad’s disallowed goal was offside (which it was).  They acknowledged Keddie’s arm around the neck of Fraser Forster for the Arbroath ‘goal’ but were unable to confirm this was against the rules.

Football rules are very confusing, after all, but the rules on how the media make money out of Celtic remain the same.

We have not discussed Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas for a couple of days.  This single is going to position Celtic Charity and the 125 4 125 campaign in a prime spot across the nation.  You and I need to get involved THIS WEEK to raise the profile as high as possible ahead of the Christmas chart.

This guy walks into a pub …

I forget the rest of the joke, but it is really, really funny.

  2. Great to see the GREAT Neilly Mochan being remembered & honoured.

Still, at least in my judgement, the hardest striker of a football I ever saw.

Penalty kick-taker in the top bracket.

    7-1 hero.

    Thorough gentleman.

Neilly was a greyhound racing aficionado, who could be found every race night for many years on the winning line at Falkirk dog track.

    Too many great memories.

    I am now getting emotional.

No fool like an old fool.

I don’t know what he said but he is a total clown … and a hurting Hun.

I switched channels when the full-time whistle went – as I always do.

Neilly, as you say, scored all FIVE, one of them a penalty, in that 5-2 win.

He had already scored 2 of the goals in the first replay that ended 4-4.

SEVEN goals in ONE round of the Scottish Cup.

    Some feat.

  9. BIGbones8867 trouble with these inquiries is they restrict themselves to the physical perpetrators and their immediate superiors in Northern Ireland. They don’t go further up the chain of command to who gave political consent in Whitehall and Downing St.

When challenged to do so the response is to blame a rogue, freelance element and provide evidence to that effect.

It was indeed some feat. I remember both games, 4-4 and 5-2 being at Celtic Park, so I presume in those days they tossed a coin to decide where a second replay would take place. My memory isn’t what it was!

I know it’s not a very kind thing to say, but in that Evening Times photo Goian actually looks like a hun.

    ========================================

He can`t be a real hun because the first line of the story states:

`The Romanian defender is on a season-long loan at the Serie B side, but got into hot water with the Italian football authorities last month.`

*I was still in the primary so was surprised when my da woke me that morning and told me to meet him at the Estate Bridge in the Renton which meant I was going to the game.

The year before we had been gubbed 0-4 by the Buddies in the semis with Celtic supporter Gerry Baker tearing Bobby Evans a new one so this was revenge.

We won the game and the more these ‘decisions’ annoy them the better as far as I’m concerned.

They will always find something to try and put us down.

At least we’re not cheats and bigots.

Oh, and our team is doing very nicely thank you.

  15. As well as hurting hunnery, I certainly feel that there is some hurting in Norn Iron at the moment in the Unionist community (I understand that these 2 groups currently hurting are mutually exclusive, and there were no Rangers scarves or training taps on display at Belfast City Hall the other night ;-) ) Anyhoo, I think the Town Hall was one thing, but I sense some rallying from fellow Unionists in Westminster over the PF inquiry. ‘adding insult to injury’…Interesting times for the angry mob. Interesting side show for me. The wee wifey poking through the glass was a personal highlight.

  16. The scottish media as well as sky, wont stop their

negative attitude to Celtic until The Rangers International

either slide into obscurity or make it to the top table.

They have selfish reasons after all.

Dont allow them to get under your skin, not in a

season when everything is Green and White.

I was just about to post my memory of Neilly’s 5 goals under floodlights at Parkhead against St Mirren in a Scottish Cup replay,29th February 1960. I think the Saturday match finished 1-1.

What was amazing about Neil Mochan was that he played and scored in so many positions.

When all the controversy over ” honest mistakes ” was raging I would think back to my Dad’s tales of controversial decisions against the club in the 30s and 40s but my own early experience involved a decision given against Neil at Ibrox.

Must have been late 1950s. Alex Scott, rangers winger approached the Celtic end with the ball. I was very young and was at the front and very close to the play- albeit there was the running track-and he tried to cross. Neil Mochan was left back at the ball from close range struck him as he stooped on the left shoulder. I can still visualise that moment clearly. Referee Jack Mowat pointed to the spot. A penalty for Rangers. Who would have thought it. Celtic players gathered and protested but the kick was taken and we were beaten. I grew up with that sense of aggrievement and as I grew older I tried to balance my experience against how things ought to be. The Celtic support knew the score in employment, housing and in sport. It took a Jock Stein to grab the genius that lies at the heart of our club and go beyond the retarded, petty minded bigotry which tried to stop us fulfilling our potential in Scotland.

They failed miserably then, they are failing miserably now but they will come back at us. That is for certain. That is one of the reasons why we need to hold dear people like Neilly Mochan, Tommy Burns and Neil Lennon. They understand who Celtic are and instinctively connect to the broad church that is the support.

I was also behind the goal when Neil Mochan made it 2-0 in the 7-1 League Cup Final- 19 October 1957- oh, happy days.

  20. Tontine Tim,

Was at Hampden and Ibrox when we played St Mirren in the semis. There was a pitch invasion at Ibrox and Sir Rober Kelly said we would have ceded the game to them, if they hadn’t won.Gerry Baker, like his brother Joe, was born outside Scotland. Gerry in America, I think. So, couldn’t play for us. He and Tommy Bryceland were 2 very good players for them. If I remember, there was a game at Celtic Park under the new lights which ended 4-4 and both teams were applauded off the park.

Neilly did play in many positions, in fact it’s as a left back I mostly remember him. I don’t remember the incident you refer to though. You’re right about what these lads did for Celtic and the community, and in our Neil’s case are still doing.

Have to disagree. These issues should be highlighted even more when we win ,because if we complain only when we lose we are accused of making excuses to cover our failings.

Until that day I will slag them to death and scrutinise their every sleekit, underhand, corrupt and violent move.

They exist for one reason, and one reason only, and I take that personally and I find it offensive in the extreme.

I don’t hate them. I despise them, loathe them, and wish them begone. Permanently.

They exemplify the worst that himans can aspire to; a truly deleterious, negative and malign influence.

Surplus to requirement in a societal sense.
