Sentiment and Sinclair, scrapping for second, Neil and Hibs

343

I don’t cling to sentiment when it comes to footballers on high wages, so when Scott Sinclair was unable to get into the first team I would happily have released him.  We seldom see a player rediscover his form and goal touch as demonstrably as he has in recent months.

You may have noticed the way Scott coached Timo Weah during Saturday’s game against Hamilton.  He is thriving on the responsibility and the confidence it instils.  Playing the wings is a hard shift.  You hear more ‘feedback’ from the crowd there than from other areas of the field.  I know some of our very best wingers in recent times have carried this extra burden.

Delighted that the three clubs scrapping for second place below us managed to take points off each other in a week Celtic won twice.  Well done to Aberdeen, Newco and Kilmarnock for sticking with it.  If there was a clear challenger their task would be easier.

It is a source of some regret that Project Hibs is on the skids right now and Neil Lennon is set to lose his job.  Hibs and Neil seemed a perfect match.  His results at the club against Celtic, Newco and Hearts were unprecedented in the modern era.  Football progress is seldom linear and this year was destined to be one of realignment, something Neil and the club should have acknowledged.

They could do worse than appointing boyhood Hibs fan, Gordon Strachan, as manager, but whoever gets the job will be a step down from Neil.  They are likely to remain a Premiership team for the foreseeable future – they will not appoint the likes of Terry Butcher again – but mid-table mediocrity beckons.

The tip off source for this player was too good to be ignored. He wasn’t looking for a winger but the reports from the scouting were so good that he sent the coaching staff to see him, they were mighty impressed also por cierto.

  2. I’d like to suggest a no-lose scenario for discussion/quiet contemplation.

On the assumption that Der Tribute Act get past plucky Cowdenbeath this week (and even I don’t think that would merit a pitch invasion) , the next away game where that would be possible would be Pittodrie .

    So.

Option 1 . Aberdeen win – good for us

Option 2 – Draw. Good for us

Option 3 – Der hun win . Queue Pitch invasion. Anyone think that Aberdeen fans will sit and quietly take it ?

    To be honest , I can’t see a downside :)

Im not against the signing in any shape or form, i merely mentioned to view BR’s comments in context, i realise it was an option that looks too good to pass up, it helps having someone know Andriy Shevchenko (as is rumoured)

Yes they do its an industry the agents even have the youtube collages made up, goals, assists etc.

To draw comparison between Celtic supporters and the SMSM/Sevco is rather tragic imo. Sevco are for laughing at, not benchmarking. The minute we benchmark against them, we’re done.

For the record Brendan Rodgers was not exactly enthused by the signing of Shved as per his comments. Most Celtic supporters are more intelligent that those that hang on every word of the SMSM. I haven’t spoken to a single supporter who disagreed with the sentiment of the banner on Saturday, the message was abundantly clear. As Brendan says, he is looking to add ‘quality’, most probably in other areas of the team as he was in the summer. The Board have been as yet, been unable to deliver.

  9. Benkovic out for Wednesday?so says SSN ticker….but it also says we are interested in taking Lewis Morgan from Sunderland….

On the contrary he is very impressed by the signing of Shved, if he wasn’t, the lad would not be signing for us por cierto.

Wonder if Jinky and Messi’s opponents felt the same first time they saw them?

Though hope Celtic are in development talks with body armor manufacturers to develop a full body suit for Karamoko and the Celtic first team due to the unpunished assaults they face on a constant basis.

If Neil goes Scottish football will be much the poorer for it, we need guys like Neil up here to keep the game interesting, and of course Hibs will be much much poorer when he goes. It’s been a while since Hibs have really mucked it up but that’s exactly what they’re doing now, blithering idiots – could they not just have given the guy a warning – sounds like someone halfwit (Petrie?) showing off. Ah well, there goes my soft spot for Hibs, hell slap it into them.

I don’t know if he did, but he does have faith in his scouting dept., and, of course, his own coaching staff por cierto.

    David17,

You’ll note BR said he will be a good singing for the club in the future,.

I’ve noted when BR talks about signings, he refers to club signings as opposed to his signings when he has not instigated a signing. I’d also point out that ‘the club in the future’ implies to me after he has left. Which is why I believe he is off at the end off the season.

  17. “I know Neil pretty well and I know how good a manager he is and what he puts into his life as a football manager, what a very good tactician he is and the thing with Neil is he is not interested in being second best.

“He has been in the game all his life as a player and as a manager and coach to be the best he can be.

He will only every want to be the best. He galvanised Hibs when he went in there and showed consistently what a fantastic job he has done there.

“So if they end up parting the way then of course it will be very disappointing and it would be a sad end to what has been a really successful time there, but of course there is a lot of things that go on behind the scenes that we are not privy to.

“But I have a lot of respect for him, I did as a player and have done as a manager. He is a good man who loves the game in general, a real thoughtful guy, very intelligent guy and I am sure if it did come to an end at Hibs that he would walk into another job I’m sure.”

    Brendan Rodgers

  18. To the quite large contingent on CQN who think BR will be off at the end of the season.

Who should we replace him with ?

I’m thinking about a midlife (cough) change of career …I’ll throw my name in the ring …

and before some of you cheeky beggars chirp ….. it could be worse, PL could decide that he is going to do it all himself, and take over the first team coaching gig as well.

Hey! I just said I’d take the job….

Besides, what has SC got that I dont? So, he won an FA Cup, and I think a Cup Winners Cup … but, in management, has he won any more trophies than I have (none)? I dont think so ….

    time for some fresh blood…

maybe CQN could start a write in campaign for me.

  21. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Greenpinata,

You appear to be under the illusion that BR leaving is a preference for people who suggest he’s for the off, that is not the case, I have seen no one suggest he should leave.

As for who should replace him, I suggest that is a problem for the executive since it is my contention that they are responsible for his departure if he goes.
