Sentiment and Sinclair, scrapping for second, Neil and Hibs

343

I don’t cling to sentiment when it comes to footballers on high wages, so when Scott Sinclair was unable to get into the first team I would happily have released him.  We seldom see a player rediscover his form and goal touch as demonstrably as he has in recent months.

You may have noticed the way Scott coached Timo Weah during Saturday’s game against Hamilton.  He is thriving on the responsibility and the confidence it instils.  Playing the wings is a hard shift.  You hear more ‘feedback’ from the crowd there than from other areas of the field.  I know some of our very best wingers in recent times have carried this extra burden.

Delighted that the three clubs scrapping for second place below us managed to take points off each other in a week Celtic won twice.  Well done to Aberdeen, Newco and Kilmarnock for sticking with it.  If there was a clear challenger their task would be easier.

It is a source of some regret that Project Hibs is on the skids right now and Neil Lennon is set to lose his job.  Hibs and Neil seemed a perfect match.  His results at the club against Celtic, Newco and Hearts were unprecedented in the modern era.  Football progress is seldom linear and this year was destined to be one of realignment, something Neil and the club should have acknowledged.

They could do worse than appointing boyhood Hibs fan, Gordon Strachan, as manager, but whoever gets the job will be a step down from Neil.  They are likely to remain a Premiership team for the foreseeable future – they will not appoint the likes of Terry Butcher again – but mid-table mediocrity beckons.

I thought SC made it clear he had no intention of subjecting his family to the hassle of old firm management.

  2. David 66,

Apart from MIT that would seem the obvious choice. There is no doubting his tactical awareness and he has worked with the best.

However does he posess the necessary off field characteristics required for our club. ?

    Cheers and HH.

  4. Canamalar,

I am under no such illusion. I am acutely aware that the overwhelming choice of the Celtic family would for Brendan to stay.

However, if I thought he would be leaving I would have some opinions. Similarly if Celtic think he could be leaving I would hope that they have a contingency in place.

Thank you for your ringing endorsement.

For the mineshafters, I will stand up to DD and PL … and their cronies at the SFA…

And for the more conservative section of our support, If I am so chosen, I promise that I will build a wall …. it will be very nice … beautiful…. on the southern border of Scotland to stop all of our best players from travelling south …. and I will get the English FA to pay for it.

  6. Greenpinata- some good points, he isn’t the most charismatic that’s for sure, and neither is Stevie Clark, ba boom… Sorry MIT…

Naw seriously if MIT cannot make it then I know SC isn’t the most charismatic, but I think he would handle himself fine, I understand we are spoiled with BR and his quality’s behind and in front of the camera, but surely we should be giving good coaches a platform to shine.

    Greenpinata,

    contingency in place :D))))))

They couldn’t sign targets that wanted to come after BR had done the donkey work, they don’t do building on strength we have witnessed that for years, best we can hope for will be NFL or another project to keep the competition and rotten mob in with a shout, would not be surprised if we fail to make 10.

I am going to need a good team in place …. with comments like that, you’re as good as hired!

But we might need to do something about this Stevie Clarke fella … you know any good ruskies who might be able to dig up some dirt on him?

I’ve noted when BR talks about signings, he refers to club signings as opposed to his signings when he has not instigated a signing.

    JC2,

If true then I hope we’re no signing him, if his current team can’t control him whats to say he won’t do it again at the next offer.

  19. On a cold Holy Saturday as the winter of our discontent, which started with a -0-4 hiding at hades, was coming to an end we headed tae that darkest of venues, the unholy of the unholy’s for a SC semi against a very poor Raith side who would be relegated that season with only 2 wins and a goals against of 118 to show in the League campaign.

Although we finished a credible 4th 13 points (2 for a win) behind deidco, the knights templars and the harry wraggs, the 2nd half of our season was dismal, including that humphin on January 1 as well as a 0-6 gubbin down in the aptly named rugby park, a game more famous for being the wee mhan’s debut and Dick Madden’s one an only first team game for us, we like Raith set off on a very good cup win disposing of both falkirk and the buddies away as well as the calvinists and Gala Fairydean at Parkheid.

Raith en route tae the semi beat the sheep and bully wee in Kirkcaldy as well as the hi hi at Cathkin, the latter having beaten us in the GC final in the week of this semi, but they were still a very poor side who we had walloped 4-1 a month earlier.

So buoyed by this cup run and a couple of good results at Firhill and home tae the Hibbees, who it must be noted only missed relegation by 2 points over our Rutherglen neighbours with the hi hi being just a point ahead of them, we headed for that den of disrepute.

If my memory serves me well it wisnae that good a game and the scoreline, which included 2 Dunky MacKay penalties, flattered us.

As I stood in their snow covered cooshed with my jubilant Tradamus Lampada school mates shouting bring on the deidco some oul supporters behind us uttered deidco will murder that mob, which they did 4 weeks later in the replay 0-3 a score that flattered us as their follow followers chanted easy easy and that summer labeled us Bob Kelly and the Easybeats a play on the boy groups that were now emerging.

So when I witness the hun support invading the park after beating nobodies my mind goes back tae that day when we thought “and the cheers go up when we know the Scottish Cup is coming home to rest in Paradise” the older more experienced supporter thought differently.

  21. Transfer Window Scottish Style Guide 2019

    (1) During the January window Brendan Rodgers will be reported as continually at loggerheads with Celtic’s ‘bean counting directors’ who always ‘wear suits’! and continually deny him more Marvin Comppers in the perpetual Celtic biscuit tin mentality which antagonises their fans.

  22. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    BSR,

no me, my gripe is with the summer of 2018 when BR offered his resignation due to failure of the suits to align with his vision for the team and lost interest in the January 2019 window.
