Sevco’s sums

464

We got sight of a couple of interesting stats in the last 24 hours.  Sevco released their proposed season ticket prices for this season – £258 for adults.  The Herald today told us they have sold 450 tickets, which would generate £116k.

For every 10,000 full price adult tickets Sevco sell they can expect an income of £2.58m.  40,000 sales would bring in just over £10m.

The cost Rangers faced to run a football club at Ibrox, before employing any staff whatsoever, has varied in recent seasons, but not dipped below £16m.  On top of this Rangers employed around 200 non-playing staff plus dozens of players.

You see the size of the funding challenge Sevco face, made all the more difficult by what appears to be an almost weekly appearance of a distraction in the form of other parties wanting them to relinquish control.  It’s almost as though the universe is conspiring to starve them of income. Their issues with the SFA will grab current headlines, but if these are resolved far greater challenges lie ahead.

Fans of all Scottish clubs are invited to contribute their thoughts on a variety of subjects, including policing, stewarding, the media, offensive chanting, and are asked for ideas to improve the supporter experience.

I have spoken to the researcher tasked with getting a perspective on this and he is keen to hear from as many Celtic fans as possible.  It will take you around three minutes to complete the online survey, which you can do from here.

After all, Jim Traynor and the Record have led the way so often during this complex Rangers story that there is no reason to doubt the veracity of this morning’s tale.. Parallel universe.

    From the BBC:

Eight people, including Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coulson, will face a total of 19 charges relating to phone hacking, the Crown Prosecution Service has said.

The two ex-News of the World editors will be charged in connection with the accessing of murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler’s phone messages.

They are among seven of the paper’s former staff facing charges of conspiring to intercept communications.

The CPS said the charges related to 600 alleged victims between 2000 and 2006.

The revelation that 13-year-old Milly’s phone had been hacked by the News of the World after she went missing in Surrey in 2002 led to the closure of the Sunday tabloid newspaper in July last year.

Mrs Brooks, who is also a former chief executive of the paper’s publisher News International, faces three charges relating to the alleged accessing of phones belonging to Milly and former Fire Brigades Union boss Andrew Gilchrist, CPS legal adviser Alison Levitt QC said in a statement.

Mr Coulson, the prime minister’s former communications chief, will face four charges linked to accusations of accessing the phone messages of Milly, former Labour home secretaries David Blunkett and Charles Clarke, and Calum Best, the son of the late footballer George Best.

In a statement, Mrs Brooks said: “I am not guilty of these charges. I did not authorise, nor was I aware of, phone hacking under my editorship.”

She added that the charge concerning Milly was “particularly upsetting, not only as it is untrue but also because I have spent my journalistic career campaigning for victims of crime”.

The others facing charges are former News of the World managing editor Stuart Kuttner, former news editor Greg Miskiw, former assistant editor Ian Edmondson, former chief reporter Neville Thurlbeck, former assistant editor James Weatherup and private investigator Glenn Mulcaire.

Ms Levitt said that 13 files had been passed to the CPS by the Metropolitan Police and she had decided that there was a “realistic prospect of conviction” in relation to eight of them.

All of the suspects apart from Mr Mulcaire will be charged with conspiring to intercept communications without lawful authority between October 3, 2000, and August 9, 2006.

Prosecutors will allege that more than 600 people, including Hollywood actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, were victims of this offence.

Other victims of alleged hacking named in connection with the charges were former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson, television stars Abi Titmuss and John Leslie, chef Delia Smith, actors Jude Law, Sadie Frost and Sienna Miller, and footballer Wayne Rooney.

Ms Levitt said that no further action would be taken in relation to three other suspects, but police have asked her to defer making a decision over two remaining suspects while they made further inquiries.

The eight who are facing prosecution will be charged when they answer police bail later.

She added that once police had contacted all the alleged victims, a list of them would be made available.

The fixture information come from Football DataCo Ltd. They probably get it from the organisers of the various competitions before compiling it and sending it on the the individual clubs. I note the SPL site still has it as 3pm.

The club are probably required to use a central resource, so that all clubs are reporting the same information.

  13. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

Geese are larger than ducks, and honk instead of quack. Geese have very long necks while ducks have relatively shorter ones.

Plus duck nostrils are very high up their bills whereas the nostril holes for geese are very low down their bills.

Both sexes are colored the same in geese, but different in ducks.

Geese eat mostly on grass and grazing across meadowlands. Ducks eat near on on water, bugs, weeds, waterplants.

  18. 'crushed nuts?' 'Naw, Layringitis!' on

Brian Kennedy has as much intention of buying sevco as he does joining a monastrey. Chuckles is desperately trying to bring about the demise of sevco’s chances of getting a game anywhere soon. Has Ally transferred to sevco? Prove it.

Training players at wisnaemurray park is hardly a statement of intent, Beattie and Black both left hertz because they weren’t offered new contracts, how much could sevco afford to pay them?

Effectively sevco are bust before they start, trading at a loss in div 3 will only result in administration before hallowe’en, that’s assuming they start in div 3, which they won’t.

The usual suspects: Roach; stretford; di stefano; kennedy; souness are circling the carcass for their own purposes, mainly free publicity.

  20. ASonOfDan (12:16): “It was interesting that Sevco stated they valued rangers at £50 Million…”

So should HMRC not be asking why Charles Green was allowed to buy £50M worth of assets for £5.5M, when £50M could have been realised and paid back to creditors?

    .

Dontbrattbakkinanger (12:25): “Ally Mccoist has demanded to kno the names of all those who have bought tix for the game v Brechin aka ‘the Hedgemen’.”

I have it on good authority that 39% of them were bought by “Dodgy Bill’s Ticket Store” and 60% by a “Mr C. Whyte c/o TicketUs”. The remaining six tickets were picked up by Charles Green for his players’ WAGs.

  21. Interesting story. Do rangers still owe Strathclyde Police money?

Leeds United has won its High Court action against West Yorkshire Police over who should pay for policing around the stadium on match days.

The club had argued policing streets and car parks near its Elland Road ground was the force’s responsibility.

Mr Justice Eady agreed these were not special police services and said the force must repay the club.

West Yorkshire Police said the judgement would have a “significant impact” on police and the taxpayer.

The club claimed wider policing fell within the scope of normal police obligations to maintain public order. Mr Justice Eady ruled the club should not pay for such policing.

Michael Beloff QC, for the club, had told Mr Justice Eady the action was “in the nature of a test case” and the footballing and policing worlds hoped the ruling would provide “powerful guidance” on the issue.

The force must now repay the club the costs of wider policing from the past three years. The amount is so far unknown.

    ‘Step too far’

He had said the club was content to pay for services within the stadium and on land owned or controlled by it, but policing on land not owned or controlled by the club did not constitute special police services.

“West Yorkshire Police’s insistence on charging Leeds United Football Club for such policing is illegal,” he added.

John Beggs QC, for the police, had told the court the footprint around the stadium was a tightly drawn and strategically determined boundary.

The judge concluded that the services fell within the normal constabulary duty to keep the peace.
