Sevco’s sums

464

We got sight of a couple of interesting stats in the last 24 hours.  Sevco released their proposed season ticket prices for this season – £258 for adults.  The Herald today told us they have sold 450 tickets, which would generate £116k.

For every 10,000 full price adult tickets Sevco sell they can expect an income of £2.58m.  40,000 sales would bring in just over £10m.

The cost Rangers faced to run a football club at Ibrox, before employing any staff whatsoever, has varied in recent seasons, but not dipped below £16m.  On top of this Rangers employed around 200 non-playing staff plus dozens of players.

You see the size of the funding challenge Sevco face, made all the more difficult by what appears to be an almost weekly appearance of a distraction in the form of other parties wanting them to relinquish control.  It’s almost as though the universe is conspiring to starve them of income. Their issues with the SFA will grab current headlines, but if these are resolved far greater challenges lie ahead.

Fans of all Scottish clubs are invited to contribute their thoughts on a variety of subjects, including policing, stewarding, the media, offensive chanting, and are asked for ideas to improve the supporter experience.

I have spoken to the researcher tasked with getting a perspective on this and he is keen to hear from as many Celtic fans as possible.  It will take you around three minutes to complete the online survey, which you can do from here.

Rangers Prized Asset of Scottish Football

By Mark Hateley on Jul 24, 12 07:28 AM in

BRIAN KENNEDY clearly hasn’t walked away and was never going to. Anyone who knows him as well as I do would know that already. Me and Brian go a long way back. He actually overseen the glazing work for my patio some years back and that is the measure of the man. He did not need to do that supervision but he insisted.

So when his solo bid for Rangers was rejected he could have let it lie. When he and the Blue Knights were turned down by Duff and Phelps he could have given up on the club altogether.

But, despite Charles Green dismissing his interest, the Ibrox fans should be encouraged to learn that Kennedy hasn’t gone anywhere.

And he’s unlikely to be put off by the pitiful statement issued from Ibrox last night.

Kennedy says his £5.6million bid for a controlling stake is still on the table and that he has held talks with Sevco.

That has to be a good thing from the supporters’ point of view, especially in the current climate when Green is crying out for investment.

That’s why I’m surprised the Yorkshireman has been so defiant in rebuffing Kennedy’s advances.

There hasn’t been the stampede for season tickets that Green was relying on.

And the fact Rangers are in the Third Division wasn’t part of his master plan.

He has failed so far to get the fans on side but entertaining Kennedy and considering his offer might go a long way to changing that.

Kennedy is an impressive figure. He’s a man who is already heavily involved in the sporting industry and has built up a successful rugby club in Sale Sharks.

While the name Sale Sharks is an unfortunate coincidence at this time it is the biggest name in rugby and one of the biggest in the world. Sale Sharks are regarded as the Real Madrid of the rugby world. When I think of sport I immediately think of Brian Kennedy.

So if he’s willing to invest Green should look at it. Everyone is going on about the lack of investment in Scottish football right now.

But Kennedy’s bid, which was originally made in June, proves Rangers are still an extremely attractive proposition. They are still a commodity high in demand.

Kennedy is an intelligent guy and I’m sure he sees potential in Rangers. He knows everything that you need to know about sport and business and has taken a look at the Rangers books.

In his eyes, this could be the ideal time to take over the giant of the game. He will believe he can get a grip of Gers and re-establish them as a major force in Europe once again.

His perseverance is good news for the supporters. They liked the look of Kennedy last time around because he’s Scottish and has tangible wealth and was sporting a light blue T shirt. He also has the added attraction of being a close friend and associate of Graeme Souness and clearly Brian Kennedy is Sir David Murray´s new choice also.

If I was to make one criticism it would be Brian choice of persevering with the 5 O Clock shadow. Come on Brian at least shave before you discuss Rangers in public. That is hardly a show stopper however I cannot see many Rangers fans being too upset if the new Rangers chairman elect looks permanently unshaven.

If anybody can minimise the impending fall out and anticipated from the FTT tribunal then it has to be Brian Kennedy and that has got to please Rangers fans and the SFA.

It’s clear Kennedy won’t be coming on board to work alongside Green.

Kennedy has made it known privately that he was disgusted at Green taking the SFA to court. The transfer embargo should be revoked. The football bodies should smarten up and listen to what my best mate Ally Mc Coist is saying and take it on board, but why did Green go to court in the first place ?

So the mystery investors behind the Englishman have a big decision to make. Green says he has spoken to them and they aren’t willing to sell a majority shareholding. But I’d suggest they take a longer look at what’s on offer.

They only paid £5.5m for the entire club including the players a few months ago and now they’re being offered a bit more than that for 51 per cent.

That sounds like a good deal to me, especially with Green struggling to sell out Ibrox with season-ticket sales. It makes sense for his investors to look at other revenue streams. If Green really isn’t interested in considering the offer, he’s not doing his job as chief executive because without ticket money Rangers are in dire need of working capital.

Green has endured a tough time and it hasn’t been easy for him. In that sense, I have a degree of sympathy for him. Its never easy being an Englishman in Scotland.

But good, solid investment is needed and that’s why I’m sure fans will march behind Kennedy.

It’s important the right bricks are put in place now, while Rangers are in the Third Division, so that they can prosper when they’re immediately back in the “big-time” with 3 successive promotions.

That will probably be a worlds first and I suggest that we place a shooting comet over the 5 stars to represent that unfettered march back into the “big-time” SPL

Green has only been at Ibrox five minutes but he will already know what the club is all about and how demanding the supporters are.

So if he can’t deliver his Plan A maybe it’s time for him to look at Plan B by accepting Kennedy’s bid and allowing him to take Rangers forward. At the moment the waters are still muddy, which isn’t ideal with the team just days away from their first game at Brechin.

But if Kennedy takes over the picture will become a lot clearer for fans who want transparency from the club but not the footballing bodies, before they part with their cash.

I was disappointed when Kennedy didn’t get in with the Blue Knights and Green won control. I had friends involved in the consortium and always believed they would do well in charge of the club. Unfortunately, things weren’t as black and white as they appeared and Duff and Phelps turned them down due to them not having any money, but this time it is different.

The multi millionaire consortium involved in the Blue Knights will all be back if Kennedy finally fulfils his lifetime ambition by getting his hands on the Ibrox club.

The ones I know are genuine Rangers millionaires who have the club’s best interests at heart and continuing its best traditions.

That was always the case so, like Kennedy, they have never been too far away.

    Chicken hypnotism

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A chicken can be hypnotized, or put into a trance, by holding its head down against the ground, and continuously drawing a line along the ground with a stick or a finger, starting at its beak and extending straight outward in front of the chicken. If the chicken is hypnotized in this manner, it will remain immobile for somewhere between 15 seconds and 30 minutes, continuing to stare at the line.
