SFA and SPL office holders in eye of the storm

682

Somewhere on an upper floor at Hampden SFA and SPL high office holders will be mulling over player contracts submitted by Rangers over the last decade, including for players still registered at the club.

They will compare what they have on file with yesterday’s revelations in The Sun.  As far as the football authorities are concerned, everything will be in good order if Rangers submitted these side contracts, which featured appearance money, to the league and SFA.

But, if the club submitted these contracts to the football authorities, they would have to declare them to the tax authorities as income.

It would be good to hear from some of the very vocal former directors of Rangers on this subject, especially the one currently president of the SFA.

This matter has nothing to do with Our Hero, remember, who is currently drawing fire away from those who put Rangers into danger in the first place, however, Mr Whyte is wholly responsible for the “public censure” issued to Rangers by the Plus Stock Exchange today.  The resultant £50k fine the least of the club’s worries.

  1. BigChipsUK,

Nice work on the table. Been meaning to do that myself but you’ve saved me a job!

Looks like we are close to winning the title. I would guess that the split would be top six and bottom five as there would be no relegation, so 35 games in total. Motherwell can make 75 points so we still need another five.

  2. Don’t know if anyone has posted this today but the Daily Record has a poll on who is to

blame for the cash strapped Ibrox club and the answers are in percentages as is the story. They are as follows

    SDM 79%

    Our hero 81%

I’m no genius at maths but can’t percentages only add up to 100?

Quick question for Duffield if anyone’s inclined to phone SSB:

Gordon, you were a very successful football agent for a number of years, first with your own Agency, and latterly for 3 years as a Director of Raymond Sparkes’ ProStar Agency.

During that period, did any of your clients sign for Rangers?

I know it’s a bit of a haul from Louisville, but I thought you might be interested to know some Tims are forming a CSC up here in the Cincy/Northern KY area: Tommy Burns CSC Cincinnati. Our first meeting is slated for March 25th at Molly Malone’s Pub in Covington for the Rangers game. Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll get you more info.

    Can we please calm down.

You are forcing an issue that will play out over time.

It does not need hype, wishful thinking and hope.

You make the link that every financial transaction between a club and a player must involve wages, I think that this view is both simplistic and mistaken and consequently ultimately unhelpful to the task of bringing the TFOD to justice regarding their Finacial malpractice over the past 10 / 12 / 26 years.

I return again to SN and his widely publicised “image rights” second contract, did it involve wages or a transfer of funds between 2 commercial organisations?

There is accepted practice to deal with all these issues.

EBTs have been used by more than one club in more than one football jurisdiction.

Image rights have nothing to do with playing football.

    Like eg journalism.

Players get paid for ‘writing’ newspaper columns or punditry work in the media.

    Or modelling under garments.

They don’t need to register that sort of stuff with the SFA.

The EBT payments were for playing footie.

  14. Gordon_J – Yup, it’s unfortunate that there are so many lazy people in our society who feel like it’s “slavery” if they’re asked to put in a 30 hour a week shift in exchange for their benefits, on a temporary work placement programme that is only meant to last for a maximum of 8 weeks and will hopefully increase their employability.

The endless crying and maniacal hysteria about this scheme would suggest this country is up Rangers creek without a paddle.

It’s ironic that so much of the drama queen histrionics are coming from the Left: imagine what would have happened in the workers’ paradises of the old Soviet Union if you expected the State to clothe, feed, and house you, but refused to work?

No wonder most new jobs are being taken by immigrants.

However I do think there is a powerful moral as well as utilitarian argument in favour of workfare: idleness is destructive to individuals and society. Work is good for the mind, body, and soul.

It’s time we as a society got out of the business of subsidising idleness and all the social and personal ills it produces.

Perhaps if government ministers were to spend rather less time on personal attacks of their opponents and more time on coming up with ways to create more jobs then they might manage to dig themselves out of their current hole. A hole, it has to be said, that is entirely of their own making.

Gordon, there’s no doubt in my mind that the government is mainly composed of clowns, crooks, and craven fools. That’s pretty much a constant of political life.

But it’s betraying a rather short and selective memory to claim that the multi-trillion pound hole the country is in is entirely the making of the current government. (thumbsup)

  15. St Martin’s Bhoy (13:16), that would be correct, applying Gordon_J’s (13:20) assumption that the split would be “top 6” and “bottom 5”. One more win for Celtic and any dropped points by Motherwell would mean Celtic are Champions.

However, someone did suggest that the SPL rules dictate that all of Rangers’ results would defer to 0-3 defeats, which would of course make the picture somewhat different.

  16. BlantyreKev - Parcel=> on

Good evening panel, can I ask Gordon if he has been asked by the Administrators to return his Employee Benefit Toupée?

  17. Paul67 – contd

    Bliddy I-Pad …

Whatever paperwork was submitted to the various FA’s does not seem to be the issue.

The issue is the side letters / letter of comfort that tied payments into and out of the EBTs to a particular individual at a certain rate / timing / tax status.

That goes against “accepted practice” regarding the administration but does not go against the contract rules as applied by the FA’s involved.

Consequently keep your eye on the ball.

Please no more flyers / punts to try and worry the TFOD Ludge at the SFA.
