SFA and SPL office holders in eye of the storm

682

Somewhere on an upper floor at Hampden SFA and SPL high office holders will be mulling over player contracts submitted by Rangers over the last decade, including for players still registered at the club.

They will compare what they have on file with yesterday’s revelations in The Sun.  As far as the football authorities are concerned, everything will be in good order if Rangers submitted these side contracts, which featured appearance money, to the league and SFA.

But, if the club submitted these contracts to the football authorities, they would have to declare them to the tax authorities as income.

It would be good to hear from some of the very vocal former directors of Rangers on this subject, especially the one currently president of the SFA.

This matter has nothing to do with Our Hero, remember, who is currently drawing fire away from those who put Rangers into danger in the first place, however, Mr Whyte is wholly responsible for the “public censure” issued to Rangers by the Plus Stock Exchange today.  The resultant £50k fine the least of the club’s worries.

I think that the overarching issue in Western politics is that since the fall of the Berlin Wall the upper middle class / right wing establishment has given up any pretence of a fair and just society – they are all just trying to Hoover up as much of the wealth as they possibly can for both themselves and their own.

The spectre of the Warsaw Pact coming over the North Sherman Plain scared them fartless.

The spectre of an organised working class inviting them in scared them fartless.

    Now they have no fears.

Anti Muslim stuff is just a side show – raw meat for the balcony.

They will pay half the poor to protect them from the other half.

You can’t make enough from shares – what about derivatives and synthetics.

It is the capitalism of the bookies but who cares – play it right and everyone wins ..

Apart that is from the state and the real economy.

EBTs are part of the same issue – no stone left unturned to reduce the tax bill.

It is now not enough to own a merchant bank now you need your own hedge fund.

No-one wants to make anything anymore it is all about exploitation of position / authority.

Our local Ayn Rand lover is just too young and too self absorbed to know any better.

    Pity that.

  6. THE RANGERS Monthly has been put on hold while the club is going through the administration process.

The March edition was due to come out at the end of this week and the many subscribers to the terrific new magazine which launched last summer have been informed of the news.

A statement reads: “The production of the Rangers monthly magazine has been suspended during the period of administration.

“Subscriptions will remain valid and any issues not produced during this period will be added to the end of annual subscriptions.

“We will keep you informed and update you when there are any further developments.

“Thank you for your co-operation during this difficult period and please accept our apologies for any inconvenience.”

Rangers Monthly launched last July replacing the weekly Rangers News and has gone down a storm with supporters and media observers.

The idea behind sending people out to work for their benefits would only seem right to me if the work being done was semi-skilled and higher.

If you want to tackle the problem of those who don’t know any better I think school leavers should be focused on,for years now I’ve thought the best way to deal with those who don’t,can’t or won’t find their way for a multitude of reasons is to bring back a modernized form of national service which would instill a bit of discipline, routine and self esteem and to break down this idea of generational acceptance of unemployment and its relative poverty.

  13. Hi Paul,

    Another pertinent, succinct article;

”Somewhere on an upper floor at Hampden SFA and SPL high office holders will be mulling over player contracts submitted by Rangers over the last decade, including for players still registered at the club.”

We will be half way through the SFA’s independent inquiry into RFC tomorrow and we know little of the remit only the stated aim – ”more clarity on the situation regarding Rangers FC”*

At the launch Stewart Regan stated: ”There will be no further comment on the investigation until it is complete and its findings presented to the Board.”

However Mr Regan had to make a comment the next day due to lack clarity on the original terms of reference, not that it was very illuminating. Now we see some more detail emanate as Paul Thornton states in today’s SUN ”…….last night sources confirmed to us that the SFA’s independent panel — set up to probe Rangers — is to consider our evidence to see if the proposed payouts broke the association’s rules.”

That’s two comments in the first week, so the question must be asked; is this a properly structured inquiry with apposite terms of reference or are they making it up on the hoof?

Let’s face it the stated aim* is not overly ambitious, now given its’ two week duration this is no big deal, however there should be NO drift in scope or timeline, we can have subsequent Inquires as long as the findings of this one is published in it’s entirety in a timely manner.

”It would be good to hear from some of the very vocal former directors of Rangers on this subject, especially the one currently president of the SFA.”

As you say an interesting cabal of strident ex-gers around, aul’ AJ seems to be enmeshed within this faction, trying manfully to extract the minutiae relating to the Corporate activities of RFC during CW’s tenure as Chairman, there is a somewhat incongruous hush and lack of transparency to events when he was in office.

Difficult to disagree with much of what you say-I must introduce you to my childhood friend ML(hoist by yer own petard there bud,but I don’t wish to name him)who was the man congratulated by George Galloway for beating a Labour incumbent in a by-election,thus leading to his expulsion.

In fairness to PHILVISRETURNS,he always argues his case firmly and with good humour. The likes of you and I might take issue with what he says, but it is difficult to tackle the man in those circumstances.

I’ve said before that the straightforward way of avoiding anyone defrauding the tax office simply because they can afford to pay someone to do so on their behalf-and then be covered by indemnity insurance!-is to tax ALL income as PAYE,at the appropriate rate.

  23. It really is astounding just how murky this whole Rangers player registration business is getting, I can’t believe that the whole SFA and SPL would have sat back and simply allowed this to happen? Okay, we all know that Rangers have plenty of sympathizers among the blazers but surely there must have been SOMEONE in the SPL or SFA who raised such concerns? Or even asked questions? I can’t believe every single last member of the SFA/SPL would have willingly put the whole of Scottish football at the mercy of UEFA just for one football club? I guess that’s where Mr Ogilville comes in…..

Seems our media as well seem totally unwilling to even utter any suggestion of possible corruption, after all they’re still giving it “poor rangers in admin” as if it was through no fault of their own.

Paul67, do you think this could well be Scotland’s own Calciopoli scandal?

  24. Philvisreturns,

If work placement are so important to young people why not give them the full experience? Add in the most enjoyable part of working – picking up the pay packet at the end of it?

At the moment the companies involved gain through free labour. Other workers lose out as overtime is cut – but then I suppose in the free market world that’s a good thing. And no new jobs are created at all.

And at the end of the day workfare is no better at getting young people into jobs than doing nothing.

I’m really not trying to look like I’m just on your case, please do not think that, but there is a widespread misconception about Dyson taking his business and all the associated jobs to Malaysia, and sticking two fingers up to the UK.

Although I have to admit that he does not strike me as the kind of bloke I would ever wish to have a pint with!

Around the turn of the century,he applied to the local authority in Wiltshire to expand his manufacturing base in Malmesbury,Wiltshire.

This is hardly an area known for industry, and accordingly the application was turned down as the area had been earmarked for housing.

Obviously the locals would be unable to afford that housing as they had no jobs-especially when Dyson f’d off-but it brought in some rich people from the London area.
