SFA CEO, who’d want to do it?

328

You’re not going to hear a defence of Stewart Regan from me. The job of CEO of the SFA is clearly too big for him, this has been evident for years. But to be fair, the job had been beyond most. Anyone capable of delivering high performance at the Association over the last five years shouldn’t be at the SFA, they should be achieving at a fast higher level.

I know some great candidates for the job but I wouldn’t wish it on them. The SFA CEO job is for a hit and run turnaround expert.  Make everyone hate you, fix a small number of things and get out. Of Scotland.  Even then, you’ll probably fail.

Anyone who thinks there are simple solutions to complex problems should stick to politics.

We’ll see how effective the old media are at undermining execs in our game. My guess is more than you might think.

    Dessybhoy,

That is the aim of Res12 and always has been, the SFA as an organisation is not fit for purpose and its rules and memorandum need scraped and rewritten to remove the ambiguities like the SFA can when deemed necessary make up the rules as it goes, and believe me there are such clauses, transparency must come first with integrity and accountability, there is no place for personnel with club affiliations in such an organisation, we have witnessed how that leads to corruption.

With regards our Company secretary, positive I have seen him pop up on LinkedIn – could always drop him a note through that medium ?

Yes too many vested interests, these folk think they are doing a good job, they would not get any job in the real world, watch out for the press clamouring for real football men W Smith G Smith to name but two being in the news to provide the needed leadership required, it would make you weep.

Chase the lot of them, disband the committees including the failed refereeing committee, have a thorough debate about what football needs have a 20 yr plan and stick to it, shut Hampden spend money on indoor facilites and proper coaching, Iceland made it work no too bad, speak to their leaders about how it was done, its not impossible or unachievable

Daily Rectum article on where teams need to strengthen. Apparently we need a new right back, goalkeeper and creative midfielder.

The sheep need to extend Madison’s loan spell and another mid to give them options in a “busy engine room”.

Zombies might need a midfielder and if Waghorn leaves, another striker.

If only we were about 10 or 11 points in front of them, eh?

The French call a fold-out sofa bed a “clic-clac”. Make of that what you will…

I’ll bet you didn’t know that the inventor of what the Australians call thongs was a Frenchman named Philippe Felop

Wisnae me, honest. Some lighthouses emit a green and white glow.

More importantly, looking through papers received for AGM agenda there does not appear to be a listing for discussion of original Res12 – a new Resolution 12 (Supporters’Forum) is listed. Is this our custodians attempting to build a further obstacle?? When would be the most opportune time to call for a statement of intent? HH

Article on Talksport saying that we have the third highest average attendance in Britain, with only Arsenal and Man U ahead of us.

  13. I have been mulling over this post for a while.

I have noticed that there is a constant undercurrent of criticism of the Celtic Board. For various reasons ranging from a ” Thatcherite tendency” to complicit in resurrecting the Govan team.

I am sure like all they are open to ctriticism some fair and perhaps some not so.

I prefer to view them as the current custodians of our club and it’s history.

Over nearly 50 years of following our team I have seen the Whites, Kelly’s and Grants virtually kill this institution, Fergus resurrect us and create new corporate, PLC, structures, that is now controlled by DD and the appointments he has made to maintain our position and legacy.

Fergus took his money, deserved though I had no time for the man, and DD carried on the PLC and the regulatory framework that entails. His employees deliver what they have to to maintain our preeminence.

Now these same custodians have given us the Lions, nine in a row, fairly, Seville, and many leagues and cups and for me some of my best memories of being with my late dad who would only ever get emotional when the Celts scored and won.

However these same custodians have given us Martin Hayes, Harald Brattback Carl Muggelton and other less impressive memories.

So maybe we should recognise that for every game v Clydebank and 6000 at Celtic Park in the sack the Board days we have had 80+ thousand in Seville and other great days.

Not saying they shouldn’t be criticised but their time is only temporary in our history and their will be future good days and bad. I happen to think we are going into a great time, but we will see.

Just wanted this off my chest.

If the MSM are going to start trashing Regan it will be because they have got wind of someone more Sevco-minded willing to take over.

However, a times like this (i.e. thinking about the SFA) I refer to my favourite fantastic name – and it is a real one…

That allows the Chair a great deal of latitude in determining whether a matter is “competent” or not. Perhaps, we should all have been a bit more proactive in having the topic listed as a business item.

Hope that I am wrong in suspecting a “sweep it under the carpet” agenda.

    Thanks for your response. HH

Maybe they did but I think a few thousand worked there at the time – my dad was a metal polisher.

according to my dad his father in law was the first Catholic to be a foreman and that was because he was the main jig designer and had a group of apprentices working for him

  18. Hi Paul67,

Yes, who would do the job?

When the vacancy came up before I suggested Mr Crozier might do it? Being Scottish and having successfully restructured the FA.

Of course it was tongue in cheek and a pipedream… now of course finding anyone near that quality is complete pie in the sky.

We need total reform and a complete restructuringredients in Scottish Football.

Of course Stewart was always going to have to move on before Craig’s memoirs come out.

The great Footballing Swindle was not implemented as smooth as it could have been but it wan’t a bad job all things considered.

Of course the trick is to take the filthy lucre get the heck out of Dodge and when it hits the fan the SMSM can tell us it was sooo long ago and Scottish Football needs to move on.

Of course they will be right about the last bit, although not in the way they mean.

Could be a good challenge for Peter Lawwell…

    Hail Hail

  19. Chairbhoy

I think Crozier has been linked before – I think he might even have been linked with a Celtic job at one point.

He’d certainly have known how to handle those suspicious packages sent to Celtic employees.

  21. If the DR wants Regan removed you can bet your bottom dollar it has nothing to do with the national team. The next stage of the Sevco saga is what this is all about. Regan is not playing ball with what GASL is asking to happen, so removal and replacement are all lined up. Just need the SMSM to instigate the revolt and hey ho presto por cierto.
