SFA CEO, who’d want to do it?

328

You’re not going to hear a defence of Stewart Regan from me. The job of CEO of the SFA is clearly too big for him, this has been evident for years. But to be fair, the job had been beyond most. Anyone capable of delivering high performance at the Association over the last five years shouldn’t be at the SFA, they should be achieving at a fast higher level.

I know some great candidates for the job but I wouldn’t wish it on them. The SFA CEO job is for a hit and run turnaround expert.  Make everyone hate you, fix a small number of things and get out. Of Scotland.  Even then, you’ll probably fail.

Anyone who thinks there are simple solutions to complex problems should stick to politics.

We’ll see how effective the old media are at undermining execs in our game. My guess is more than you might think.

BLANTYRETIM IS PRAYING FOR THE KNOX FAMILY on 14TH NOVEMBER 2016 4:43 PM

I hear wee BGFC stole the show Saturday evening at Paul Larkins premiere

    ————————————————————–

Shy wee fella that he is !!

We had a great night, and Wee BGFC made the best of the opportunity to extend his burgeoning network of Celtic friends – not least your auld man, Paul Larkin and our own FRANTIC07.

He’ll post later I’m sure (once his homework is done) – but I’m very proud to to see that Wee BGFC rates a special mention – and a beautiful photograph along with your dad – in Paul Larkin’s Blog today.

I’d recommend all CQN to have a look at Paul’s blog – http://thefrontofthebus.blogspot.co.uk/ – scroll to the bottom of the latest article (read it later!), and there is the Holy Goalie along with Wee BGFC (he’s the one who isn’t wearing a jacket :-))

This is starting to get beyond silly.

On the back of Celtic being favourites to sign Gerrard, Sevco are favourites to sign Lampard.

On KD, as a kid I was in a huff with KD that lasted until reading on here that he was willing to stay and was sold in spite of Jock Stein’s protests, I hope this was correct as it earned KD a reprieve in my books.

*A few years back, a good few at that, I had a conversation with someone who was well up the food chain at Parkheid, a gentleman BTW.

I initially asked him about Peas and Barley and why we let him go. His response was we thought he was staying until he went on a tour of Canada with the national side and there his agent got tae work on him. 2 days after the final game of the tour he signed for the Gunners.

Seemingly on hearing of his leaving his mother came up tae the Park and approached big Billy demanding tae know why we let him go. Also it’s alleged tae that he picked up a wee injury while on tour and came in for treatment fae Brian Scott and told some who were there that he couldnae believe he had left and he’d made a huge mistake.

As for Kenny, it seems that after a trying season he didnae want tae go tae Oz on tour, the Big Mhan, it’s alleged again, took umbrage to this and on the team’s return called up Bob Paisley and offered him Kenny, he was NEVER on the transfer market.

Similarly with Davie Hay, again Jock, who I’m NOT trying to disparage here as I in my youth saw him as the Latter Day Christ, got fed up with his taking the club tae task over appearance money and flogged him on his return fae the WC in Germany.

As was said to me at the time, Jock was always in charge and there was nae Board interference on team matters.

Mibbes that’s why Desmond White actually got rid of him, not just that but humiliated him tae. I have been led tae believe that it was a long time before Jock returned tae Parkheid and some Celtic players suffered when it came tae national side selection in his early years there.

Great post, however I had to take twice when you mentioned resurrecting the ” Govan Team ”

No thank you I thought, as someone from the opposite side of the river we hated the sound of ” Govan Team ya bass”

I then cottoned on, silly me.

As a side note, check how much as Glasgow moved on.!!!

    Tontine Tim.

Last year, Frank McGarvey gave a speech at the CQN Golf day.

Talking of Charlie Nicholas he said he didn’t blame him for leaving for Arsenal because once he signed for them he immediately got something like 23 times the wage he was on at Celtic Park.

Not double or triple but 23 times the weekly or monthly sum.

That is a hell of a difference.

Re Dalglish, at the time his was a record transfer fee.

Liverpool were under all sorts of pressure to replace the hero that was Keegan and they did so with the God that became Kenny, King of the Kop.

As I understand it, Celtic were keen to take the money at the time and that Kenny, whilst initially reluctant, eventually concluded that he could not pass up the chance to move to a club which was showing far greater ambition than us.

What is slightly odd is the handwritten acceptance of the Liverpool offer signed by Jock Stein. Even in those days one would have thought that offers and acceptances would be typewritten and would not be signed by the first team manager but by the chairman or the club secretary.

You will find that many of the Lions, while acknowledging that Stein was a great manager, take the view that the big man wanted them all out the door prematurely so that his wonder team would not be seen to fade as a group.

Many of them fell out with Stein and his manner and the ill feeling remains to this day.

  13. This is a question to anyone……

I’m not worldly wise in Celtic AGM matters .

Now that the requisitioners have taken res.12 as far as it can go without Celtic Plc taking it further, would Celtic be forced to make a res.12 statement on Wednesday, even if it is to say they are not pursuing it further ?

And secondly , if it is being dropped would Celtic have to give the reasons why?

Also, might Jackson et al who now have an agenda against Regan , be doing so to oust him in the pretence of the national team issues, but are really doing so to head off further res.12 issues?

I mean on the basis that the CEO who awarded the licence has been bulletted so nowt to sea hear, move on?

Excellent post encapsulating my own concerns.

I have boring the blog all day seeking a mechanism whereby our Board is compelled to state how it intends to proceed on (old) Res12.

Auldheid is hopeful that a statement will be made at AGM on Wednesday.

I would like to see some guarantee.

In the meantime if every supporter, be they shareholder or not, e-mails John Paul Taylor with a request that the Club Secretary is made aware that supporters wish to have a clear and unambiguous statement on progressing original Res12 either prior to, or at AGM. HH

An Teach Solais ….. not a dig at you, mate ….buy just responding to the idea/question you have floated ….

given everything that has gone on, do you believe that there is any chance that our Board will do or say anything meaningful this week? I dont. The opportunity for change/truth was a few years ago …. but Celtic PLC didn’t seem interested …..

They have had chance after chance to speak out on a variety of issues …. but, nothing … it seems, they were happy to keep quiet and let things lie ….

increasingly, I am more and more certain that, if people want there to be any change, we have to get the Board’s attention… and that means money …. withholding it from the Board unless and until they behave reasonably ….. if enough people refuse to renew season tickets, wait and see how quickly Celtic PLC jumps into action … but, until then …. it will be business as usual.

Thanks for reply. What you suggest may, unfortunately, be required in the future. However, for immediate action I suggest that the Board be left in no doubt about the views of the supporters.

Presumably e-mails to JPT have to be passed to Michael Nicholson and presumably to the Chair. The more received, common sense would point to greater consideration but, then again, our Board, as you say, has had many opportunities to become involved. Hopefully Regan’s lies to PL may change the scenario.

Of course, Mr. Bankier may decide to ignore the clamour but, IMHO, that would only exarcebate the angry reaction of the supporters. HH

  19. BT – thanks but maybe to my old number as I changed phones a while back. But don’t you worry I’ll text you in a moment with my new number. In any event I got a few messages re the white poppy so will maybe do something about that next November.

Got to see Billy Bragg and Joe Henry ,shine a light gig on Saturday.

Billy took most of the lead in chatting between songs ,but Joe also had a bit of chat, not as engaging as billy but still an interesting guy . As they say a” musicians musician ”

The album comes across better played live in front of an audience (imho) ,might be due to playing it every night and honing the songs ? Both played a 20 minute solo set .

Events elsewhere in the week before might have given them a topic to rant about. ;-)

All in all a good night out…

Tontime Tim 5.40pm : Whilst always ‘being astounded of forehead ‘ re your outstanding ability to recall ‘the distant past’ I have to say that I disagree with your synopsis on Davie Hay’s departure.

My recollection was that the ‘pay scale’ then in operation at CP included an emolument for first appearances per game and would have not been within the remit of Jock Stein to alter this.

Hay forcibly objected to this since Harry Hood ‘never missed a game through injury because’he never ever makes a tackle’ whilst others such as himself were ‘out’ through injury and the pay packet fell!

Just my recollection of it obviously but I thought it worth the mention.

BTW Great days are back at Celtic Park! Let’s enjoy them.

Back home for Kellie game PTL!

Bognorbhoy…. glad you enjoyed the show. Sounds like maybe you had a bit more BB, and a bit less JH, than perhaps we had. Think JH is a very good producer …. just not my favourite performer. Still, a night out listening to music is never a bad thing ….

  24. KD move nothing to do with money for those involved? And how many testimonial games did he manage to wangle? Other than that, he was a great team player.

I had a lengthy chat with Davie a couple of years back re: his departure to Chelsea – much along the lines that CCB suggests (though no names – no pack drill).

DH implied that he had suffered a number of injuries (in his Assassin role) and had been in and out the Team resulting in loss of appearance money (and some bonuses) – he was taking the hits on the field as well as the pay packet.

Despite that (and his management departure) – his love of Celtic cannot be disputed. He remains as passionate as ever and still has a healthy dislike of thems!

Been fortunate to bump into Davie on a few occasions and always found him willing to chat about Celtic and offer an opinion on current topics.
