SFA CEO, who’d want to do it?

328

You’re not going to hear a defence of Stewart Regan from me. The job of CEO of the SFA is clearly too big for him, this has been evident for years. But to be fair, the job had been beyond most. Anyone capable of delivering high performance at the Association over the last five years shouldn’t be at the SFA, they should be achieving at a fast higher level.

I know some great candidates for the job but I wouldn’t wish it on them. The SFA CEO job is for a hit and run turnaround expert.  Make everyone hate you, fix a small number of things and get out. Of Scotland.  Even then, you’ll probably fail.

Anyone who thinks there are simple solutions to complex problems should stick to politics.

We’ll see how effective the old media are at undermining execs in our game. My guess is more than you might think.

  1. Remind me, how old is Dembele, 20!

We will do well to hang on to him at the end of the Season. I hope and pray he sees us as the great Club we are and deserving of another two or three seasons at least given he’s only 20.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

  2. I have to admit I had never heard of Moussa till he signed for us, just goes to show that signing for Celtic can really set you up for life, you either stay or get a move to riches beyond most dreams, a poke in the eye with a sharp stick for those who say we can’t attract players.

Fair play to the scout who spotted him and to those who signed him.

I can see a team like Chelsea offering big money for him, and loaning him back for a season. Seems to be how they do business. Wouldn’t be a bad thing for him or Celtic.

rumour at the time was that kd had quite a few debts

*forgot about that but I was over here at the time. Something tae dae with whisky and his FIL I believe.

  5. Spurs tried to sign him while at Fulham but were put off with the £10mill price tag when he only had 12 months left of his contract.

  6. THE EXILED TIM

He formed a really good partnership wit Ross McCormack at Fulham last season. Spurs were prepared to pay £6m for him in January when he only had 6 months of his contract to run.

He has certainly improved since joining us, looks like he thrives on the responsibility of being the main man up front.

Tontime Tim 5.40pm : Whilst always ‘being astounded of forehead ‘ re your outstanding ability to recall ‘the distant past’ I have to say that I disagree with your synopsis on Davie Hay’s departure.

My recollection was that the ‘pay scale’ then in operation at CP included an emolument for first appearances per game and would have not been within the remit of Jock Stein to alter this.

*Correct but Jock’s nose was out of joint because he widnae sign a new contract and was on his extension year. Once the financial bit was resolved which would affect all of the playing staff in a positive way I hasten to add he was ready tae commit himself tae us on his return fae Germany but Jock decided tae sell him instead.

As I said to you the other day, outwith Celtic and Spanish footy I don’t watch much else, so I know feck all in reality, but I do know that he is getting batter every game I see him, amazin what conficence can do for a player.

As I understand it moussas agent came to Celtic with the cross border £500k deal. PL thought it was a no brainier and BR agreed.

My guess he is on a healthy cut of the transfer fee plus a decent wage meanwhile.

    What’s not to like??

    Tontine Tim.

You will find that many of the Lions, while acknowledging that Stein was a great manager, take the view that the big man wanted them all out the door prematurely so that his wonder team would not be seen to fade as a group.

Many of them fell out with Stein and his manner and the ill feeling remains to this day.

*I’ve heard this as well but it’s quite disconcerting for us who worshipped the ground he walked on.

I recall my da telling me just shortly before Jock passed away that neither him nor Big Billy were at Desmond White’s funeral earlier that year. I’m sure a few well kent faces didnae show up for his either.

You may well be right, I thot we were in for him in the Jan window but finances dictated we bowed out, whatever, we have a star on the books, as you say what’s not to like.

  12. Bhoyfromskye: I hope that the Resolution 12 issue is dealt with, satisfactorily, on Wednesday at the AGM. Fair pay to the lhads who led on this issue.

I also hope that there will be news of a museum and cafe.

  13. I think I have now established that Mod 2 is, indeed, the Queen. I mean, who else but the Queen would not delete someone for calling them the queen?

    Now…. for mod 1….

I don’t or didn’t have any inside info on the transfer saga,it is just my recollection of events at that time.

It would not surprise me that JS would be a bit of a martinet.Success seldom accompanies camaraderie!

Anyway last night in Spain so off to kip. Grand view of the super moon here and Moussa was shining bright tae!!

  15. Thanks for those adding to the e mail list.

Providing the e mail of The Company Secretary would have been preferable but privacy protocol meant otherwise.

I should say that in the past getting some statement made at the AGM was a bit of a last day job and it now looks like it’s more of the same. Contact.

It’s not exactly on top of the agenda for the Board but many views from many supporters will tell Celtic fair play is an ethic many supporters value.

For me it’s what makes us more than a club and at the risk of sounding evangelical about it, I think it’s something we should be shouting about, not cowering behind fear of narrow mindedness.

I’ll email JP tomorrow, I’d expect a reply so I’ll keep you posted.

My own opinion, based on experience of working with them, is that Celtic will do and say nothing.

  17. Dembele could be a catalyst for future signings if Brendan gets to pursue this policy – capturing them on a cross-border development fee.

IMO he will be off by the Jan/ or Aug 2018 window latest – his actual transfer fee and purchasing club may entice other Agents to look at the benefits; first team exposure, trophies and CL participation = some serious commission.

I hope the likes of Man City come in for him – pay £20M+ and loan him back to us for 12 months. Dream scenario – Pistol Pete could maybe negotiate a deal to keep Roberts and throw-in Denayer (as a Def Mid) as part of the deal – I wish. :-)

Joking aside – there must be a number of players surplus to EPL requirements either kicking their heels on loan deals or ones that have lost their way (e.g. a Greilish or Zaha type) that Brendan could turn around to our advantage.

Much will depend on BR’s total control and PL’s remit to support it.

The Jan 2017 window could be an interesting indicator.

    H!H!

If it’s to cloudy to see the super moon where you are …..

Why not stick a tortilla to your window ?…….

    Worked for me ;-)

Why not get everyone to mail you and you pass them on to Michael personally. If it helps I’d be happy to do it.

  20. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Kevj, I hope you are well and your health scares become a thing of the past.

I’m not having a pop at you in this post but just to give a bit more information about the tribute game for Sean Fallon in Sligo.

I have known young Sean Fallon for more than thirty years.

The tribute game for his dad had been arranged when a different person became involved in the arrangements for it.

This guy changed all the arrangements for where the proceeds from the match would be distributed. Sligo Rovers and Celtic were unhappy and after no compromise was reached, each decided the game would not go ahead as the original plans benefitted everyone.

Hugh Keevins’ article in the Sunday mail blaming Celtic was inaccurate.

This caused a lot of upset to the Fallon’s.

I have met Hugh Keevins a number of times. A friend who used to work in the press introduced me to him.

I was at a Van Morrison gig when I first met Hugh.

I stayed with my parents at the time. Hugh asked if I wanted a lift back in a taxi with him as he was going past Knightswood to get to Parkhall where he lived.

I accepted then walked down to the Scotsman’s Glasgow office where he ordered the taxi so he could charge it to his expenses.

Even to this day I am grateful for the lift but he went over the line with that article about Sean’s tribute.

Sean did more in one day for Celtic than Hugh did after leaving the Scotsman for the Record.

It’s an idea but my wife’s tolerance almost vanishes in the lead up to the AGM just with Twitter traffic, but if you want to act as a channel many thanks.

I dont see silence as an option and understand Conp Sec has been in touch.

If it’s not killed off at AGM with valid reasons then taking it forward has to come from a wider base than have managed so far.

A perfect test of Res12 2016? Let’s see how it goes.

  22. Can someone please post JP Taylor’s email address again so I can say my bit to him re Res 12. Will pick ir up during my morning scroll back.

    Thanks in advance,

  23. After Moussa’s double against the England U21s , how long before we get a cash + Paddy Roberts story in the daily record ?

Ps nothing less the £20 million (+paddy)

  24. Had a look at the France v England goals……all 5 goals were excellent….3 well taken free kicks maybe Brendan can stick it up on the screen to show the the midfield how its done……then how to take a throw in would be next up.

  25. Dembele will be going nowhere soon.Another crack at the CL will have the boys mouth watering. He has said he is going nowhere. He came to Celtic to learn and is delighted to be here.He is 20,and wants to be the best striker in the world. He is on his way. When he eventually does go,if he has kept up his progress,we should be looking for 40 million. No problem. He will be in the French first team shortly. The boy has his head screwed on,and PL might be a lot of things, but stupid is not one of them.Celtic know what they have got.
