SFA CEO, who’d want to do it?

328

You’re not going to hear a defence of Stewart Regan from me. The job of CEO of the SFA is clearly too big for him, this has been evident for years. But to be fair, the job had been beyond most. Anyone capable of delivering high performance at the Association over the last five years shouldn’t be at the SFA, they should be achieving at a fast higher level.

I know some great candidates for the job but I wouldn’t wish it on them. The SFA CEO job is for a hit and run turnaround expert.  Make everyone hate you, fix a small number of things and get out. Of Scotland.  Even then, you’ll probably fail.

Anyone who thinks there are simple solutions to complex problems should stick to politics.

We’ll see how effective the old media are at undermining execs in our game. My guess is more than you might think.

  1. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan on

    Folks,

    Let’s get something completely straight.

The big issue with Res 12 and its current position is that any examination of the position as set out by UEFA is at odds with the explanations provided to Peter Lawwell by Stuart Regan of the SFA.

If you persist in asking questions, with each question having a slight difference of emphasis, tackling the issue in different ways, you will get either one consistent and clearly truthful set of answers or you will get obfuscation, contradiction, and clear inconsistencies in the replies.

That is where we are now.

I had a long chat with the Company Secretary last night and pointed out that what UEFA say and what the SFA say cannot be reconciled in certain respects and so there is a need for clarification in my opinion and in the opinion of others.

    For example:

Stuart Regan said that once a licence hs been granted, all monitoring and reporting duties are the responsibility of UEFA.

UEFA stated that during the course of the year concerned, the SFA were monitoring for that year and the next at one and the same time. They also said that during the year, the SFA decided Rangers FC no longer met the licence criteria and reported accordingly — though they don’t say when or why the SFA reached this conclusion.

These two positions cannot be reconciled as on the one hand Regan says post-grant he has no locus yet the man from UEFA said something very different.

This is further confused by the corporate compliance officer who says that any duty to report owed by the SFA comes to an end at the end of that particular season.

So Regan says there are no monitoring or reporting duties post-grant yet his own compliance officer says those same duties (which don’t exist) come to an end at the end of the season while the man from UEFA says that the reporting and monitoring duties for two consecutive seasons were being conducted simultaneously!

    Confused? Yea me too!

However, only one of these versions of events was given to Pater Lawwell and it was the Pontius Pilate one which was bereft of all the details eventually provided by UEFA as a result of the Res 12 enquiry.

There are also at least two materially different versions of events as to why the grant of a licence was made in the first place and those two reasons don’t jive either.

The first was that there was no actual HMRC debt at the material time as there was only a “potential” debt, and the second was that there was an accepted debt but that HMRC agreed to postpone collection of the debt.

Have you ever heard of a “potential” debt being postponed?

    No me neither.

Either there was a debt or there wasn’t … which?

By the way, it is very clear that the debt was agreed long before March 30th 2011 so the potential debt argument doesn’t wash and there is no evidence of an agreed postponement.

In any event, the High Court will determine what is to happen to Craig Whyte about his failure to pay this alleged, potential, postponed debt by 6th May 2011 which is when he agreed it would be paid.

6th May 2011? Fully three weeks before the SFA intimated they had granted any licence to RFC to UEFA declaring that either there was a potential debt or a postponed debt.

Oh and the debt was still not paid by 30th June when the debt was still allegedly potential or postponed.

    Go figure.

Seeing as you are referencing The The, if Res12 is successfully resurrected tomorrow, we could say (on behalf of Mr Regan) that Armageddon Days (are here again).

    Derek Parlane’s weekend.

What a packed itinerary I have to look forward to this weekend.

Firstly, I am going to Calderpark Zoo I am particularly looking forward to seeing the Dinosaurs and the Caribbean Monkseal…… and oh, the Dodos, they are so cute.

Then some shopping. I want to go to British Home Stores, Safeway, C&A, and Woolworths.

Then a bite to eat. Probably just go to the Berni Inn for convenience.

I am able to take in two football games this weekend. Firstly hop on the tram to Cathkin Park to see Third Lanark, and then my beloved Rangers.

And finally, Greens Playhouse for the dancin’ on Saturday night.

    :)

  6. As I said before, what it all comes down to is that according to Celtics take on the answers they received from the SFA,is that they were lied to.The Res 12 guys have shown to our board that this is a fact. What I would like to see is PL standing up at the meeting and shouting,

“Right, thats it Regan ya “Fadge”,courtesy of ACGR,you are fekin claimed”.

Thats what anyone would do,is it not?.

  7. It is Tony.no worries

  8. An AGM is a mere 24 hours away and we are well behind the curve for this time of year in terms of fall outs, yellow cards, flounces etc. To be fair we are doing ok on the clique accusation front, keep up the good work guys. However, given the fact that the lack of poppygate this year has really hit our numbers, we need you all to dig deep and get bickering.

    Thanks in advance.

In the run up to the AGM there seems to be an atmosphere of resignation regarding the acts and omissions of the plc.

That’s not necessarily a good thing.

  12. Hun Media is always good for a giggle. On Rossiter,”I am beginning to think we signed an injury prone player from Liverpool”

On about Crooks.Remember him,the guy that had to disguise himself from Celtic fans in case he got abuse.

He has been signed for the Huns now for 8 months, and even they dont know what he looks like.

On Niko”How unlucky has he been.Just when he is playing like a world beater,he gets injured”Wis he,aye.

On “Going for 55,whit was all that about.Just a con to get us to buy STs”

“No it was not. They just meant the next league win will be number 55”

Brought to you from the pages of,Special Needs Media.

  13. Is it just me? Or has anyone else noticed how just in the last few weeks that JJ guys blog has got rather vulgar? Today’s is way over the top, I just couldn’t C & P it on here, very strange , it’s as if it’s someone else writing it?
