SFA double down with Scottish Government

240

This morning’s CQN story on the discrepancy of how the SFA and Scottish Government treated Celtic, after Boli Bolingoli’s break of rules, and Newco, after their second breach, this one involving five of their players, illustrates what we are up against.

The SFA took 18 days to ban Bolingoli, whereas with Tavernier injured and a ban-awaiting Patterson the only remaining right back, the Association took 45 days to respond and issue their bans.

Nicola Sturgeon took to the podium to express her anger when postponing two Celtic games following the Bolingoli incident, whereas she had a Government spokesperson “commend” Newco for swiftly acting at their first incident.  The second Newco incident saw the First Minister talk only about her ambivalence to “Celtic and Rangers [sic.]”.

If she does not see the disconnect between her words and actions it speaks volumes of what she is prepared to overlook.  I am not a fan.

  1. I have a certain amount of respect for Nicola Sturgeon but believe she was guilty of unconscious bias, in he stark comparison of how she responded to our breach and those of Sevco.

  2. Paul – people on here say you are on talking terms with Peter Lawell who has, for many years, been the most influential club CEO in Scotland. Why does he not got public with this? I do not doubt for one second he could speak directly to the First Minister if he asked to do so.

Instead all we got was NL highlighting the discrepancies in a weekly media conference.

That is such weak leadership it defies belief.

  3. If Celtic say nothing about this then I am done

I will find something else to occupy my time.

As I said yesterday, if we do nothing we are

clearly part of an organised deception.

We are all being taken for fools.

All you are doing is highlighting how much our CEO is completely incapable of earning his obscene salary.

  5. Sorry

This is just smoke & mirrors stuff.

Meanwhile we are a complete shambles .

20 points behind The Huns .

    No permanent manager.

Almost every decent player wants to leave .

    The half decents are loanees.

    The dross unsellable .

    Scouting is a shambles .

Yet we are diverted to this nonsense.

Sturgeon is from Dreghorn, Leith is an Airdrie Academy boy. Enough said.

The SFA are chain wearing masons.

Dare I say you reap what you sow. Our absentee landlord and fat cat CEO looked the other way on EBTs, LNS, 5WA, FFP and the continuity lie. All because of their devotion to the blue pound.

No point in complaining at the inevitable consequences.

The plc clearly deemed it worth it. The support? They can eat shit.

Meant to add, the same person you have blindly backed for many years, even ignoring res 12 after highlighting it previously, I imagine at his behest.

Also backing him when he briefed to the media behind Rodgers back.

Ever feel you’ve been taken for a ride?

  8. Like all crap and corruption that flows out of the SNP cult on an almost daily basis, the selective & malicious action against Celtic will be ignored by the cowed & compliant Scottish media.

Now Sturgeon is throwing financial bribes out left, right and centre in the run up to an election. The money of course comes from the UK government, with Scotland under the Barnett formula, getting 30% more per head in block-grants. Covid money is also being used for other purposes.

SNP cult benefiting more than any other part of the UK whilst trying to destroy it – with the backing of brainwashed supporters acting like deranged turkeys voting for an early Christmas slaughter.

  9. Sturgeon is now in less need of a distraction, for the moment, and there’s an election coming up.

She has nothing to gain, and something to lose, by saying anything.

She uses these events to suit her agenda. In that regard she’s not dissimilar to the Celtic board.

  10. Paul67

All individuals were sanctioned when they broke Covid-19 regulations as per Scottish Government Guidelines. The time difference in dealing with individuals from different clubs and circumstances is odd, but inconsequential.

The central issue is that Aberdeen and Celtic Football ‘Clubs’ were sanctioned heavily and instantly with games postponed. Sevco went on to win the league uninterrupted and commended despite players and supporters breaking the rules repeatedly, after the first minister’s yellow card .

If we as a fan base are to witness SFA or Scottish Govt applying different rules then someone in office at Celtic Park has to start communications with the Celtic support to explain why and what they propose to do about it.

We will not be treated differently?

  11. For anyone with an hour to kill this is a great podcast by Blindboy (of Rubber bandits fame) with Adam Curtis the documentary film maker.

Re the article. I agree, it’s a scandal the way Celtic have been treated. Then again, the Celtic board seem pretty happy with things so if they don’t care why should we?

  13. Jeezo more politics..more blah blah blah by our resident political commentators

Hail Hail the Celts are here!

  14. Celtic had a unique opportunity to lead the process to reset Scottish football governance during a near-decade of monopoly dominance.

Celtic plc chose not to do so.

This opportunity will almost certainly never come again.

Instead, we heard our absent de facto owner lavish praise upon sevco, while his corporate leadership in Glasgow signed up to the 5WA and sought to send the Res12 on a merry dance.

    Dog Whistle Politics Explained

    #########

Would being more conciliatory and emollient towards a Club and support regarded as quintessentially Scottish and more aggressive and confrontational towards a Club and support who might be regarded as having divided loyalties (‘The Menace of the Irish race to our Scottish Nationality’ as one of the founders of the SNP put it) be an example of dog whistle politics?

  16. I have often thought that what seems to be the case is , in fact, not. That being so, I can just about accept that maybe there is a necessary reason why Celtic seem so unwilling to challenge the seemingly blatant bias against us and in favour of Sevco. What I find much more difficult to accept is why we, the support, cannot be given this information through `leaked` reports to CQN etc.

Surely the Blue Pound does not generate much more income than Champions League games do?

    I’m sure he won’t mind.

My initial trio were Billy Fullerton, Arthur Donaldson and Adolf Hitler, but on second thoughts I might chose Vivian Mackerrell, Bruce Robinson and Richard E Grant. Probably have roast chicken with firm young carrots washed down by just about anything, or maybe just tea and cake and the finest wines available to humanity.

No way Peter Lawwell was going against his bosses wishes on this, and there’s no way his successor will either.

This is how it’s going to be while the club is owned by this guy.

    No point kidding yourself otherwise.

Indeed. I don’t know what is more bizarre, the fact that Bruce Robinson (the writer/director of W&I) spent years working on a book about Jack the Ripper or the fact that it’s brilliant. Very long though, took me months to read it.

  21. !!Bada Bing!! on

Ernie- I get what you’re saying, but I think you give Desmond too much credit for taking interest in every day shenanigans in Scottish football, he is now as he’s been embarrassed into the current situation.

  22. The club should come out with a statement/letter to the SFA about the differences in dealing with the Huns and us, Aberdeen, St.Mirren and any other club in Scotland that were dealt in a different manner to them regarding Covid19.

Better still contact those clubs and send the SFA a joint statement from all the clubs and ask the question Why?

If we have the backing of other clubs, supporters associations and friendly media outlets this is the way to tackle SFA, put it out there and continue to challenge them at every opportunity

  23. Ignore the Political dog whistles, Celtic PLC want you to look away, engage in meaningless political debate as long as your not discussing the PLC

Of course, the political trolls who pounce on Paul 67 dog whistles, surprise surprise then dog whistle themselves to call out for posters to gorge on their political bigotry and hatred, eat yourselves up

    GENE on 31ST MARCH 2021 12:48 PM

We had 9 years and the smoking gun of res12 to clean out the SFA and looked the other way.

Great question and the source of the present trouble, never before and likely never again will Celtic FC and a CEO have the ammunition and opportunity to alter our standing and change the dynamics at the SFA, what an act of cowardice, but why ? Many and I included believe we were complicit in the saving of sevco, Celtic would have accepted Rangers back in the top flight after liquidation that’s a fact

Gene, Andrea Traverso clever letter in reply to Res12 guys is quite brilliant, in the opening paragraph Andrea calls out Celtic FC

“It is not the general policy of UEFA to write directly to lawyers representing unidentified clients and if this is a matter that a MEMBER club of the SFA (i.e CELTIC) wishes to take up with EUFA then the club should do so DIRECTLY”

Headshot! Celtic called out by Andrea, you are a member club Celtic, send me the Res12 stuff EUFA will consider any complaint protest from a MEMBER club ie CELTIC, what did we do Gene ? We shat the bed, kicked Res12 into the long grass till the grass became elephant grass, gross dereliction and cowardice, that’s the story

Could you explain how Lawwell speaking up in this issue would be going against ‘his bosses’ wishes?

  25. I agree with all (most) of what has been said so far. But surely the way forward is for ALL clubs to call it out, not just ours. They can’t all be closet Huns, can they?

  26. Not getting involved in the Political nonsense getting spouted on here by the rabid Unionist posters.
