SFA double down with Scottish Government

240

This morning’s CQN story on the discrepancy of how the SFA and Scottish Government treated Celtic, after Boli Bolingoli’s break of rules, and Newco, after their second breach, this one involving five of their players, illustrates what we are up against.

The SFA took 18 days to ban Bolingoli, whereas with Tavernier injured and a ban-awaiting Patterson the only remaining right back, the Association took 45 days to respond and issue their bans.

Nicola Sturgeon took to the podium to express her anger when postponing two Celtic games following the Bolingoli incident, whereas she had a Government spokesperson “commend” Newco for swiftly acting at their first incident.  The second Newco incident saw the First Minister talk only about her ambivalence to “Celtic and Rangers [sic.]”.

If she does not see the disconnect between her words and actions it speaks volumes of what she is prepared to overlook.  I am not a fan.

  1. While I am delighted that Slavia Prague are able to put forward their side of the incident, I doubt Celtic would be afforded the same support from the SMSM, as Slavia get from their own media. As they attest, the deid team have been able to put pressure on Police Scotland and UEFA (where the SFA have placemen like Dallas, the proven bigot).

As has been said for as long as I remember, if we want an even playing field, we need to join another league. Davie Hay, among others, was so sickened by the cheating, he called for that. I imagine that was in part why Dermot Desmond was so fulsome in praise of the deid team, as he believed we would only be invited to join the EPL if we were part of a package that also included the team that played in Govan.

  2. Aw schucks, wee boys stamping their feet slag the article because it’s not about a new manager.

Perfectly content to wait for the right new men to be appointed not a chance a manager would want to be come in now and be associated with this season. There is no meaningful football arguably since last October, and the state of the squad with the likelyhood of more poor results to come, will mean John Kennedy seeing out the season which is what was always intended. If someone was appointed before May they would be working behind the scenes preparing for our biggest overhaul in modern times.

Looking forward to the ‘Covid19 Free’ ten in a row. CSC

  5. @Greenpinata – Not looking for a tit-for-tat about the contents of the leader and what may or may not be discussed here. It was an eyes-rolling here-we-go-again comment. You are right, of course, that the issues we have with the SFA and Holy rood must be brought into the light.

However, once the politicos emerge, the posts cease to address these issues and disappear off into ingrained circular displays of flag waving and trumpet blowing one-upmanship.

Numerous posters have highlighted this and suggested that these conversations could take place on a separate dedicated blog.

It used to be that one might have to scroll past a post or two.

Clip just needed to be from two seconds earlier to catch the pass and run. It was the bossy Laxalt lookalike in midfield who scored the 1st goal.

  9. You do not need to be a fan, to get your facts right Paul.

Then again if you want to be a poor man’s politico I do not suppose it matters too much.

Less so if you continue to be a relay for a CEO who is on the way out.

Or if your own credibility does not matter to you.

Nicola Sturgeon did not postpone two Celtic games. Though two Celtic games were postponed.

I could explain the difference but why make you look like a fool.

When you are more than capable of doing that yourself.

I suppose the SFA could have ignored her demands.

It’s not like she would have done anything about it.

As Alex Salmond would no doubt confirm.

“As a minimum, you should not be expecting to see Aberdeen or Celtic play in the coming week,” she said.

    “Consider today the yellow card.”

“The next time it will be the red card because you will leave us with absolutely no choice.”
