SFA error in law

1023

The SFA have made an error in interpreting their laws.  They refuse to discipline Calum Butcher as the rules do not allow them to switch a punishment retrospectively.  This is correct, but the rules do allow retrospective action which the referee has not seen.

Craig Thomson saw the Butcher-van Dijk incident inasmuch as he was looking at the players, but didn’t see it well enough to call an infringement.  SFA rules permit retrospective action under these circumstances.

The matter becomes theoretically more complicated by the involvement of the assistant referee, Graham Chambers.  Chambers also saw the incident inasmuch as he was also looking at the players, but he didn’t have a clear understanding of what happened either.  He couldn’t even identify the Dundee United player involved.
The rules on retrospective action do not require a referee to be looking in the opposite direction before the Disciplinary Panel become involved.  A ref can see the incident but not see if sufficiently well to correctly report what happened.  This is the basis under which Nadir Ciftci has been asked to attend the Panel.

Both referees on Sunday saw the incident.  Neither saw it well enough to bear witness to the actions of the two Dundee United players involved.  SFA laws allow both to be examined retrospectively.

Aiden Connolly, at the very least, has a case to answer for diving in the box.  Should the SFA ban Virgil van Dijk while turning a blind eye to Connolly and incorrectly interpreting their own rules on Butcher, and almighty row will kick off on the competency of those who govern our game.

Delighted for Stefan Johansen, who is February’s Player of the Month.  His goal in Perth was a joy and a fitting mark to the development he has achieved this season.

Before Friday’s CQN 11 St Patrick’s Dinner you can win a Celtic jersey signed by the 2008 squad, who won one of the most remarkable titles in our history.  All proceeds go towards building a fourth CQN school kitchen in Malawi, for Mary’s Meals.

Tickets cost £5 each, you know how valuable this is to those kids and families in Malawi.  Buy your ticket here, or click the link at the bottom of that page to buy a book of tickets.

Been scrolling back and caught this perceptive post from SOT

    Preparation.

Wee tv preview re Chelsea v PSG.

Chelsea Press Conference – Mourinho spent 5 minutes bumping his gums re how “aggressive ” PSG are and then put on his most serious butter wouldn’t melt face to request that the Officials do their job.

Time to check the PSG Red Card odds.”

    Hope you backed your instinct.

Although I am sure that there are some Sevco fans who are decent (my brother’s pal is one, and he is not your typical dun – is that today’s letter?.

But, to give the rest of them the benefit of the doubt, they are simply lacking in self-awareness … or they wouldn’t sing and behave as they do.

It is the scorpion and the frog, I’m afraid.

    On Chris Graham.

That did not take long. From TSFM yesterday.

Based on the Chapter Alistair McKillop contributed to Bigotry Football and Scotland as well as some points he raises in The Rangers Standard he would be a much more sensible and less aggressive choice.

To appoint Mr Graham is to set up for a fight and I’m not sure he will put many bums an seats and certainly no brains.

It’s is if they want to settle imaginary scores first rather than build bridges.

    Unbelievably stupid.

    ————————————————

I agree. A fans rep onboard is sensible – but only one that actually unites fans and accurately represents their views/concerns. The guy they’ve picked embarrasses many sevcovians I know and they want nothing to do with him.

BTW – many thanks for your reply the other day on the state of pitches. I’ve never played the game professionally (except in my head) and found the comments you made re: your son’s view interesting.

  4. Just seen a replay of the pen incident the goal line official is looking straight at it – what’s the point if they don’t get involved – stonewaller

I can’t comment on the third. I’ve heard of it but haven’t read or watched it. Does it depict Jesus Christ engaging in homosexual acts?

  6. Was going to take Bayern -2 at 6/4.

Should have bet -3 had known Collumb was the ref. Appeases home support with red card to Shaktar after 2 minutes. Absurd. At the Bridge, both players follow through and big Ibrahimovich red carded. Farcical!

Hopefully it will be a walk in the park for the surgeon and his team.

As for genuflecting, well it has been so long since I was able to do so, that I can barely remember how to do it.

Same as kneeling down pretty well impossible for the past year.

Sick and tired of reading the fucking shite on here that somehow because Jesus is allowed to be mocked and pilloried that we must insist that muslims have the same attitude towards their prophet Mohammed.

One one level this is simple. The Christian churches have always relied on pictures, statues, icons to display images of prophets, saints and even the Son of God himself.

We, as Christians have been brought up to see as normal the depiction of the major figures in Christianity.

Islam does not. In Islam there are no pictures, statues or icons of the prophet Mohammed.

Now. It goes without saying that killing people who draw disparaging pictures of the prophet Mohammed is an act of evil.

It is simply fucking evil to kill people because they have published pictures of the prophet Mohammed.

But I despair when I read on here that Muslims should not be offended by actions pure and simply because we as Christians do not take offence at the same thing.

Here is another way of putting it.

Many fundamentalist protestant Churches depict The Pope as the anti Christ, a paedophile and an agent of Satan (amongst other things).

Given certain people on here think it is reasonable to insist that Muslims have the same approach to things as we have. . .

Is in not reasonable for the followers of the fundamental protestant churches (such as the Westboro Baptist Church) to insist I should behave like them?

    Answer. No it is not.

Anyway away to get fucking drunk. And I know the “guidelines” about swearing on this site.

But having watched how the blatant bigotry of the likes of Kojo and TSD have been allowed over the years on here, ce la fucking ve.

HH fella. Quite correct about upward Fenian mobility in the North of Ireland through educational achievement. Largely forced on Catholics due to apprenticeships and trades particularly in the manufacturing sector being closed shops.

Coming home to roost big time now. Young protestant WC boys in particular knew that the doors to Mackies/Shipyard/Aircraft apprenticeships ever open so didn’t put emphasis on education that they should have. Underachievement in this demographic has been the subject of a number of studies recently particular by Dawn Purvis. Problem now that manufacturing sector has collapsed unemployment now endemic for young WC protestant males. Hence over representation in fleg protests, marching riots et al.

Fenian focus on qualifications now means over represented in Uni intake and amongst younger members of professions. Complete turn around from 60 ‘.

Mother’s words “an education is never lost it always travels with you” prophetic.
