The SFA have made an error in interpreting their laws. They refuse to discipline Calum Butcher as the rules do not allow them to switch a punishment retrospectively. This is correct, but the rules do allow retrospective action which the referee has not seen.
Craig Thomson saw the Butcher-van Dijk incident inasmuch as he was looking at the players, but didn’t see it well enough to call an infringement. SFA rules permit retrospective action under these circumstances.
The matter becomes theoretically more complicated by the involvement of the assistant referee, Graham Chambers. Chambers also saw the incident inasmuch as he was also looking at the players, but he didn’t have a clear understanding of what happened either. He couldn’t even identify the Dundee United player involved.
The rules on retrospective action do not require a referee to be looking in the opposite direction before the Disciplinary Panel become involved. A ref can see the incident but not see if sufficiently well to correctly report what happened. This is the basis under which Nadir Ciftci has been asked to attend the Panel.
Both referees on Sunday saw the incident. Neither saw it well enough to bear witness to the actions of the two Dundee United players involved. SFA laws allow both to be examined retrospectively.
Aiden Connolly, at the very least, has a case to answer for diving in the box. Should the SFA ban Virgil van Dijk while turning a blind eye to Connolly and incorrectly interpreting their own rules on Butcher, and almighty row will kick off on the competency of those who govern our game.
Delighted for Stefan Johansen, who is February’s Player of the Month. His goal in Perth was a joy and a fitting mark to the development he has achieved this season.
Before Friday’s CQN 11 St Patrick’s Dinner you can win a Celtic jersey signed by the 2008 squad, who won one of the most remarkable titles in our history. All proceeds go towards building a fourth CQN school kitchen in Malawi, for Mary’s Meals.

PSG did well to get back into this but disappointing to see both sets of players trying to unduly influence the ref. Chelsea too negative but not sure PSG can win this in extra time with a man down

I’d love to see these modern day players against a proper hard player from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s
Next time this place is in meltdown about referees, remember back to this clown refereeing tonight.
1 first half Red – Bingo!
Saturday’ s jaunt to Palermo for Palermo v Rubentus paid for.One more chance to watch the wowee good – Dybala. Way too good to stay at Palermo and way too expensive for anybody in Serie A .Great player – a future star.
PSG will play for pens, or to get Costa sent off, whichever comes first.
So the bookies were due to lose around £50mill at Cheltenham yesterday had Annie Power come in.

Annie Power falling cost me the best part of a grand. However no jiggery pockery involved. In my opinion, it really was, one of those things.
You couldn’t have scripted it but it happened.
Hibs 5 pts clear of Sevco who have 2 games in hand
What the hell did he do that for

I’ve tracked down your DVD – BRTH has it and I have asked him to forward to Paul. It never did reach me!
I’m still not sure if it touched his hand, silly leading with his arm in the box anyway.

How does this work in ET?
If PSG score 2-2 do they go through on away goals?
Saint Stivs
Great picture! I was quite surprised at the height of the roof structure, relative to the terracing below.

My cousin in Leeds was in Stuart McCall’s year in school. Stephen says he was the only hun fan in a year with about 12 Celtic fans. Always had a chip on shoulder and a wee grass to teacher. :)
Sips,
I’m glad you said that too.
I can’t see the touch either.

Bayern result at this level awesome.
Probably ignored and played down by the British press as usual.
Some team over the last 5 years or so.

DD: Would love that. My flight leaves Dublin at 10am so I expect to be in Glasgow city centre around 12.30. Depending on match ticket, Gallowgate or Kerrydale is good for me. Hamiltontim and BMCUWP have my email addy if that helps. Really looking forward to visit as I’m really busy at the moment and can’t wait to visit my spiritual home in Paradise! Am more determined than ever to get my season book for next season.
