SFA error in law

The SFA have made an error in interpreting their laws.  They refuse to discipline Calum Butcher as the rules do not allow them to switch a punishment retrospectively.  This is correct, but the rules do allow retrospective action which the referee has not seen.

Craig Thomson saw the Butcher-van Dijk incident inasmuch as he was looking at the players, but didn’t see it well enough to call an infringement.  SFA rules permit retrospective action under these circumstances.

The matter becomes theoretically more complicated by the involvement of the assistant referee, Graham Chambers.  Chambers also saw the incident inasmuch as he was also looking at the players, but he didn’t have a clear understanding of what happened either.  He couldn’t even identify the Dundee United player involved.
The rules on retrospective action do not require a referee to be looking in the opposite direction before the Disciplinary Panel become involved.  A ref can see the incident but not see if sufficiently well to correctly report what happened.  This is the basis under which Nadir Ciftci has been asked to attend the Panel.

Both referees on Sunday saw the incident.  Neither saw it well enough to bear witness to the actions of the two Dundee United players involved.  SFA laws allow both to be examined retrospectively.

Aiden Connolly, at the very least, has a case to answer for diving in the box.  Should the SFA ban Virgil van Dijk while turning a blind eye to Connolly and incorrectly interpreting their own rules on Butcher, and almighty row will kick off on the competency of those who govern our game.

Delighted for Stefan Johansen, who is February’s Player of the Month.  His goal in Perth was a joy and a fitting mark to the development he has achieved this season.

Before Friday’s CQN 11 St Patrick’s Dinner you can win a Celtic jersey signed by the 2008 squad, who won one of the most remarkable titles in our history.  All proceeds go towards building a fourth CQN school kitchen in Malawi, for Mary’s Meals.

Tickets cost £5 each, you know how valuable this is to those kids and families in Malawi.  Buy your ticket here, or click the link at the bottom of that page to buy a book of tickets.

PL has no obligation to openly support any political group. Celtic is a club where everyone is welcome.

What would happen is PL said “I love the IRA songs, they are what Celtic are all about”?

Would Celtic benefit? Would the Irish Republican movement benefit? Does it contradict the foundation of the club being open to all regardless of creed or political persuasion?

You want a guy at the helm who knows how to play the long game and can navigate the murky waters of Scottish football. We’re trying to get by in a world where the authority, the other teams and the media are out to get us.

We don’t need a big mouth

The issue became bigger than it should have been BECAUSE of PL’s big mouth.

I’m sorry but I find that attitude of ‘let’s say nothing for fear of offending’ tiresome.

We as a club, could and should have spoken out more regarding our treatment by the authorities in the past.

We’ve offered wishy washy statements that fall far short of what’s required.

    Where’s it got us mate?

  3. Was Mullets record against them something like 22 goals for ZFC vs 2 for MFC (Mullet FC) – in ONE season? Or was I dreaming?

    Hail Hail.

I know exactly who you are.

    Hope you are well.

Debbie still remembers you and is grateful for the help you gave her in Norwich. She still remembers singing The Advocat song at the club.

I was also at P.F.s funeral. I used to have my season ticket beside him and Billy. Met up with him a few months before he passed away, we went to the Pines. He could still sink his Guinness faster than I could my point. I said hello to chunky and Eddie at funeral so we must have just missed each other.

I will enjoy your posts even more now.

  11. WITS what a man.. thank you !

    better off with RS McColl

RS McColl played for Oldco in 1905 ish

  22. I couldn’t give a toss about PL being successful it’s all about Celtic for me. Under his stewardship there have been highs for the club and there have been lows.

Far better to recognise that than sycophantically kiss the man’s erse.

  23. WITS,

Good tipping my man, enjoy your winnings,

not too many people taking money from the bookies today from what I see

  24. bournesouprecipe on

Not surprised in the least that Nadir Ciftci has rejected his two match ban, he seems to have a habit, and it’s all academic to us. Watched the incident again, and I’m even more convinced VVD’s appeal is a pure waste of time.

I doubt very much also that despite the apparent error by the SFA not to cite Butcher that they’ll come clean, why should they when they don’t for anything

Best to you and H always……..

  27. Saying a guy is good for the club is an opinion, and we all have one, but it’s not exactly kissing his arse, calm yourself down Ffs , it’s an opinion, and saying he has a big mouth is not an opinion, that’s just being a ? Haven’t a clue but it’s not nice to say about anyone, as I said you must be so waiting on RD and the team tripping up EH? As I said,RD being a PL hand picked man must be sticking in your craw, hope you have a long wait, celtic trust meetings must be boring these days EH?
