SFA finally acknowledge Rangers EBT issue

1494

Stewart Regan today gave a welcome update on the SFA’s on-going investigation into Rangers.  In response to Hugh Adam’s comments in today’s Daily Mail, Regan said:

“We are, however, aware of the most recent allegations made against Rangers FC today by a former director of the club. We shall investigate this matter thoroughly before making any further comment.”

SFA president, Campell Ogilvie, was general secretary and director of Rangers from 1978 until 2005. News broke about HMRC’s dispute over Rangers Employment Benefit Trust in 2010, you knew then, I knew then, the SFA knew then, but Ogilvie was subsequently elevated to the role of SFA president in 2011.  He is still on the SFA board.

We have waited almost two years the hear the SFA would investigate this matter. Now, with all the old certainties crumbling down around them, they realise they must act.

Can I be the first to congratulate Dundee FC on winning the Scottish Cup in 2003.

  1. Why would anyone touch Administration FC even with a barge pole to end up liable for 20 years of Financial mismanagement. Totally agree with RogueLeader, we will never play them again…

Uncharacteristically I have emailed the SFA, UEFA and the SPL over the last couple of weeks. I’d like to think my emails were polite, coherent and reasonable.

I haven’t had so much as the internet equivalent as the scrape of a pen in reply.

If this debacle ends up with a newco huns straight into the SPL then I’m for the off. You can only suspend disbelief for so long.

About an hour ago I got a phone call from my mate who works at Central Station. He had just witnessed a train driver colleague talking to Walter in the station. This guy, he said, was one of the huns who were still in denial about everything. Anyway after he spoke to ‘Walt’, my mate asked him what was said. He looked chalk-white and ready to burst into tears, as he said…….. ‘I wish I’d never asked him. He told me that everything I’d read in the papers was true, and that there was worse to come. He also blamed Murray and Whyte for destroying his beloved Rangers’.

The reaction from UEFA on all this is surely going to be heavy.

The SFA and Rankers in Administration are proving to be a right thorn in their side – they’ve soiled 15+ years of European competition.

Any news on when we can start chasing up for compensation??

    +++++

How frustrating is it, that we cannot sue the SFA directly due to their (at best) incompetence and remain within the Fifa/Uefa rules?

I think players should now go down the Sion route and have a shufty at their contracts to see what bonuses were contained therein regarding CL appearances and personally bring cases against the SFA et al.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon claims third SPL manager award

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has been named Clydesdale Bank Premier League manager of the month for February.

Lennon’s side won all five of their league matches in February without losing a single goal.

The award is Lennon’s third of the season, having picked up the November and December prizes.

Celtic are 20 points clear at the top of Scotland’s top flight and are still in contention to win both domestic cup competitions.

February featured 4-0 and 5-0 wins for Celtic in Edinburgh against Hearts and Hibernian, respectively.

Inverness and Motherwell were both beaten 1-0 at Celtic Park and Dunfermline were also defeated 2-0 in Glasgow by the league leaders.

The administrators of Rangers Football Club have secured a court order to seize £3.6m from Craig Whyte’s solicitors.

    ———————————————————————————————————

If you read the excellent Paul McConville site I don’t think they have a hope in hell in getting their hands on that money:

“Therefore Collyer Bristow must have worked on the basis that the funds they are alleged to hold are in fact not those of Rangers. The problem here is that, if D&P take the matter to court and are dependent on the funds involved to keep the doors open for a few weeks longer, there is no doubt that Rangers as a company would be in liquidation by the time a decision was made.

Collyer Bristow, through its client, whether Liberty Capital, Group or Mr Whyte holds the cards as they have more time than Rangers. The law firm will be sure about whose money it is and have a paper trail to show. However, if the funds belong to someone other than Rangers, then short of a court order, Collyer Bristow would be breaching confidentiality to reveal this.

If that firm has transferred funds held by them in the name of Rangers to another connected company, I am sure that they will have all the relevant records to document this, as inter-client transfers are always subject to close scrutiny by the regulators.

If this money is not forthcoming soon it will be for the liquidator to argue about, rather than the administrator.”
