SFA finally acknowledge Rangers EBT issue

1494

Stewart Regan today gave a welcome update on the SFA’s on-going investigation into Rangers.  In response to Hugh Adam’s comments in today’s Daily Mail, Regan said:

“We are, however, aware of the most recent allegations made against Rangers FC today by a former director of the club. We shall investigate this matter thoroughly before making any further comment.”

SFA president, Campell Ogilvie, was general secretary and director of Rangers from 1978 until 2005. News broke about HMRC’s dispute over Rangers Employment Benefit Trust in 2010, you knew then, I knew then, the SFA knew then, but Ogilvie was subsequently elevated to the role of SFA president in 2011.  He is still on the SFA board.

We have waited almost two years the hear the SFA would investigate this matter. Now, with all the old certainties crumbling down around them, they realise they must act.

Can I be the first to congratulate Dundee FC on winning the Scottish Cup in 2003.

Alec Salmond seems to keen to use funds raised from fines using the new bill. Makes sense to me. Lure them into Ipox with the promise of an SPL match, lock the doors, and fine each and every one of them on the way out.

    I’ts a start.

Don’t fancy being the one to calculate what they owe us actually……

Anyway, surely the SFA are for the chop as well. Do we have Agent Regan to thank for this….:D

I posted much the same musing on James Forrest’s pusbook wall 20 minutes ago: is there an in-house joke in Nyon about Agent Regan coming in?

Walter Smith and Ally Mc Coist knew about EBT´s as they carried Tommy´s coffin.

That is the cut of their jib.

  5. It’s incredible to see the fall of the huns. Having lived through their nine in a row, feeling the hurt and the pain at our inability to compete I am just loving seeing it all crash around their ears. Having hated the club and everything it stands for since I was old enough to reason it is amazing to be contemplating its eventual liquidation.

But I also feel a burning anger that they were allowed to lie, cheat, bully and steal for so many years. That so many people and so many clubs were cheated out of victories and medals, titles and triumphs. How many medals should Paul McStay have? How many titles should the late, great, Tommy Burns have won?

I am sure supporters of Rangers FC PLC (in administration) are hurting. Well all I can say is good. You deserve it. You and your club deserve it.

And I will enjoy every last minute of your pain.

  6. CQN GOLF CLUB

We have many new CQNers from last year when I started the CQN Golf Club – not to be confused with BlantyreKev’s CQN Charity Golf Day.

Many CQNers enjoyed each others company on 3 outstanding golf outings. I plan to arrange more this year. This whole idea was born out of the death of Pablophanque, who despite several requests (from him) I never managed to meet. I promised I would not allow that to happen again and would try and meet with as many CQNers as I could. This has resulted in not only the CQN Golf Club but a number of real and warm friendships with a number of very very nice people – they know who they are.

The purpose of this post is to extend the invitation for any CQN contributors to join us on any or all of our golf days. If you would like the opportunity to joins us on any of our days, please email me at cqngolfclub@gmail.com and I will add you to the list of over 50 CQNers who receive the invites.

On our last outing on 10th October last year, Celtic were 3rd place in the league behind the huns and murderwell, since then we have went on a 20 league games unbeaten run… maybe we shouldn’t have another day until after May :-)

The next day will be end of April or start of May depending on the fixture schedule post-split.

email cqngolfclub@gmail.com if you’re interested in coming along whether you play golf or not. PLEASE include your CQN blog name.

There’s a thread on followfollow by one of their reliable sources claiming liquidation around 20th March.

Also, that the administrators have set a date of March 17th to note interest in buying them. After that, the inevitable Bud Flud comes in.

I think we need to call for an Independant enquiry into the last 25 years of mis management by the SFA.Celtic and other clubs appear to have been getting the thin edge of the wedge while Rangers have had a helping hand all along the way.We will never have a level playing field until all the SFA misdeeds are out in the open and a new transparent regime is in place.H.H.

    Hail Hail

  15. First post on the new CQN… great stuff. Paul, your summary of the situation the other day was brilliant, even if i don’t agree with every conclusion.

It does all seem so obvious now… how on earth could they possibly have had so much more money than us in the 90’s? It was well enough documented that Murray didn’t actually invest money in any great quantity and Rangers weren’t capable of generating so much more income that we could. Lot’s of pain in the nineties… guess it makes you stronger, adds character and all that.

With each passing revelation it becomes more and more dangerous to urge a note of caution, to dampen expectations which in some ways will almost certainly not be met. Such is my take on things anyway.

In this vein, I think it’s worth reminding everyone that a rump of EPL teams settled an EBT case with HMRC a couple of years ago. Leaving them clear of tax liabilities… however, if they used them in the same fashion as Rangers, indeed if they also employed comparable tax avoidance schemes (and I think it’s a cast iron certainty that they did, in common with many companies during the 80’s and 90’s) then there’s a fairly good chance that approximately half of the ‘big’ clubs in the UK would be in the same boat as Ranger regarding player registration… perhaps not.

However, it’s worth stating again that if we don’t park the antipathy towards the hun to one side then we’ll never understand how the rest of the country (outwith Scotland) views this.

If he thinks that himself and Tommy Burns were cheated out of titles I would expect him to get involved. He walked away with around £50m. Could have been much more with more league titles in the bank and more European football.
