SFA giving lectures on accountability

1464

Fifa is unfit for purpose, investigations abound but we’ve not seen convictions yet.  The president has not been arrested, but, well, he has president over this enormous shambles, yet he refuses to resign.  His resignation is needed to relieve the reputation of Fifa, the reputation of football itself.  We all know this, but SFA chef exec, Stewart Regan said as much.

The SFA is Blatter’s role model.  Regan conceded SFA president Campbell Ogilvie was horribly conflicted, as the Association dealt with the consequences of the biggest directorial negation of duty in Scottish football history – by Ogilvie, who was director and company secretary of the dysfunctional board.

Ogilvie never resigned.  Ogilvie has still not resigned.  Regan said nothing.  Ogilvie’s supporters in the game rallied round, just as Blatter’s have today.

This is how human nature works.  Ogilvie has been in enough committee meetings, pressed enough flesh, to ensure that despite the slaying he took at the hands of Lord Nimmo Smith’s SPL inquiry, he could brass it out.  Accountability at the SFA does not exist.  I get it.  But, the SFA cannot have the audacity to make moralistic statements about the corporate accountability of others.

It is a depressing feature of Scottish life that we don’t have a culture of accountability, that the media are not sufficiently plural that such hypocrisy is exposed for what it is, that there isn’t a single elected representative prepared to disengage with the Scottish establishment on this today.

The new media are not there yet.  We don’t have the authority of a broadcaster or politician to demand, and get, accountability.  That’ll change in time.

I recommend watching – United Passions – a fictionalised account re the creation of FIFA ..Tim Roth plays Blatter. .Blatter approved the script and the dialogue..FIFA made a contribution of 16 million pounds to the total budget.

I get a problem when trying to read articles on CGN Magazine which reach me via Facebook. I click on the link, the article loads and as I start to read, BOOM, the app closes.

I tried using Open In Safari as it loaded. Again the page starts to load then the page goes blank and an error message appears saying

An error occurred with page so it was reloaded.

The page does indeed reload, then goes blank, then reloads ad infinitum.

(Curiously, it also cause me to be logged out of the blog which I have open in a different tab, causing me to retype this when I went back to get the exact wording of the error)

As a youngish man, I can’t understand why 79-year old Blatter didn’t just ride off into the sunset years ago with his millions and live happily ever after. Why deal with all this crap?

    ….and there’s many more.

I don’t understand it either. They must really love what they do.

  7. Only saw the inverness game today after being away at work

Saw stokes at final whistle just getting up from bench..must say i did feel sorry for him. Not everyones cup of tea but up until christmas i thought his attitude and effort was first class.

Battled to get into team and played out of position on the left yet still scored and set up a few (anyone have his stats)

Thought he deserved a run out at final game espcially as their seems good chance he could be on his way.

  8. Qatar World Cup, yanks no problem

Russia World Cup, yanks tell FIFA to review and remove, FIFA say no

    Cannot disagree at all. .

This FIFA saga is slowly becoming episode 1, Series 4 of House of Cards.

For Putin to support Bladder is just a message to Obama.

Loretta Lynch, the US Attorney general is a political appointee, by the President.

Her race and her gender mean that some will cut her more slack, while others will set a higher standard because of them.

She took office 20 days ago and will have had very little to do with this investigation. She will be judged not on things now, but on what transpires later.

    Extradition will become a circus.

Expect some to join Chuck Blazer in striking a deal with prosecutors, at which point Bladder, if he is still around, will be certainly implicated.

Bladder is merely the head that so many want, but the corruption is endemic.

A dispute by proxy between Putin and Obama.

Many Hoopy Returns. You will always be a week older than me. :)

  11. This FIFA scandal has me torn.

Firstly, Blatter has been corrupt for years and has created an environment of plutocracy that has engineered him re-election after re-election. He was so confident and comfortable in his ways and position that the idea of giving Qatar the world cup, akin to having the Olympics in the Antartic, never crossed his mind as possibly one step too far. His demise and legacy are just reward for his immorality and greed.

However, the USA are the ones to be seen as the good doers and protector of the people’s game is absurd. The timing is the give away. Two days before the election the FBI, proven drug smugglers and arms dealers, are now making their move to save FIFA and show the world that corruption is not tolerable ? Wrong. They have shown they will do anything to stop the WC in Russia as again recently iterated by John McCain. McCain, a State Governor who manages to find himself involved in other countries around thee worlds issues mostly prior before things kick off. See Syria & Ukraine.

The USA has been the poster boy for corruption and for every Blatter you could substitute the name of Gaddafi, Hussein, Mubarak, Somoza, Bush….list goes on & on. The irony being that Cain himself who instigated this is massively outwith his remit and the millions in lobbying money helps him get that message across when the cheque clears. Putin knows the score and the removal of Blatter will be exchanged with a pro USA/UK rep who will be just as corrupt but in a less obvious way.

They are all pawns in the big game but this time the game is football. Watch this story unravel….

  12. !!Bada Bing!! on

davidopoulos-there are far too many bodies buried for Blatter to walk away,i think he would prefer to die in office than face the music.

  13. larsson80: McCain is a senator, the USA equivalent to a Lord. He’s never been a governor. And it’s the DEA that have been smuggling guns & drugs …

  14. rwe,

I thought extradition only applied to nationals of the country making the request.

Is that’s what’s happening here or are they the extradition of foreign nationals ?

Well he must hope he doesn’t live as long as João Havelange, who is still going at 99 years old!!!

  16. Larsson80,

They will be just as overtly corrup but they will have the western meeja in tow, a bit like Scotland a big bit like Scotland

I think blaster and his chums are in too deep.

They are scared if someone else gets the top job they will be able to see all the dodgy deals that have been done.

So he has to try to continue for as long as he can, or until he snugs it.

Even if he hates or is too tired etc.

That’s the price of the deal he did .

  18. Looks like things did not work out for Big Sammi at الهلال (Al-Hilal). I heard a rumor (Wikipedia …) he may now be headed to Sporting Lisbon. That would be sweet: Once again in green Hoops *and* at the site of Celtic’s finest hour!
