SFA goes into full Sepp Blatter mode

98

regan-blatter-ogilvieRecent court cases and hearings made new information available on matters leading up to the liquidation of Rangers in 2012. In their letter to Celtic, dated 4 September this year, the Scottish FA accepted that in light of information available due to these court cases, it was appropriate to review events at the club during Craig Whyte’s tenure, specifically the awarding of a licence for the club to participate in European football in 2011 (the Res 12 issue).

The letter went on to confirmed that despite the same court cases providing new information on Rangers activities while recent SFA president Campbell Ogilvie was a director of the club, and when SFA Regulatory Advisory Group member, Andrew Dickson, was authoring side-contracts at Rangers, these events would not be reviewed.

It is the latter matter that the Scottish Professional Football League requested the SFA review. The SFA made no representation that the new information they declined to review was irrelevant, without merit, not sufficiently important or previously accounted for. They just preferred not to agree to the League’s request.

Peter Lawwell’s response, dated 7 September, used both barrels: “The fact that the Scottish FA is now reviewing [Rangers European licence in 2011] on the basis of new information is only proper. What we fine incomprehensible is why you refuse to apply the same principle to all the other new information which has emerged within the same period”.

Peter suggests this is “a failure in transparency, accountability and leadership”. It is all of that and more. An organisation’s recent president and a current senior apparatchik must not be protected from scrutiny. You could take issue with Peter Lawwell’s “failure in transparency” suggestion; this is a transparent attempt to protect cronies within the SFA.

Those who made the decision to go after Craig Whyte, while at the same time suggesting looking at their past president’s tenure was inappropriately “raking over old coals” have worked with Ogilvie and Dickson for many years.

It is their responsibility to go beyond the call of duty to ensure no whiff of corruption exists within the running of football in Scotland. By denying the call from our professional clubs for this review, the SFA board have truly failed their duty to the good of the game. All to protect their buddies.

It looks corrupt.

The SFA appear oblivious to the lessons of Sepp Blatter, who with near-absolute control, presided over corruption at Fifa for decades. There were enough within the game with “no appetite” for corruption who persisted until justice was served.

Can authorities within the game still refuse to review the actions of their office-holders?  That’s what the SFA are hoping.

I believe quite a few supporters have contacted Mr Regan and not received ` a single email, a single phone call or a single letter `. Does that mean those supporters ,calling for a Review, are also on the right track?

It is very difficult to believe this man is being open and transparent.

Genuine apologies, and you would expect no less from me.

Mikeintoronto will be jealous. I’ll put his mind at ease- get yourself to The Flowing Tide. The Guinness in there is straight from The Liffey.

Last year, when we were over celebrating/remembering The Centenary,my Dad refused my desperate entreaties of -“Dad,pub,pint? Naw,son,I’ll tell you when yur gaun furra pint!”

Dad,pub, pint,no use. He dragged me all the way to the end of the street-Marlborough St,I recall, though its address is Abbey St.

Old-style Irish bar, mahogany and darkness, just like the cafes in your favourite novel.

And insisted on paying for it. That I sit down and shut up,”I’m getting these.”

My first pint of Guinness in Dublin, from my Dad. In the same pub his Dad had bought him his first pint sixty years ago.

You’ll have a great time in Dublin. And so did I. But nothing could better that pint.

Thanks,Dad. And not just for the pint.

  6. Have to be in Rome on business tomorrow night and will be staying near the Ponte Milvio. Can anyone recommend a sports bar that might be showing the game? I’m aware that Roma are playing Athletico so this may be a long shot…………!!!!

    Much.

  16. THE club is delighted to have secured new deals for both club captain, Scott Brown and central defender, Jozo Simunovic.

Brown, who has been in sensational form in leading the Invincibles under Brendan Rodgers has signed a new two-year deal that will see him stay with the Hoops until at least 2019.

Simunovic, who signed from Dinamo Zagreb in 2015, has penned a new four-year deal until at least the summer of 2021.

I reckon that the main reason for their reluctance for a review is not the ‘title stripping’ but THE big lie, namely, rankers died and with little discourse this would be established officially once and for all.

  20. Magic news about Scott and Jozo.

On the earlier thread I posted about the trainer of the moment D. McCain who had 2 runners at Perth today.

Sadly, the first of his horses in the 2.35 is deemed as a non runner, as the race was declared void.

It appears that one of the runners ( I dont know which one) was injured near the finishing line, and the race couldnt be completed.

Just thought I would let anyone on here who may have backed Golden Investment in the Perth 2.35, that you will get your money back if singled ?

  23. Jungle Jim,

Will you be in Blane Valley tomorrow?.

Great news re Brooney & Jozo.

Tomorrow night could go any way. It could be one of those famous nights but if they get ahead early it’s also one where we could get tanked.

However our season will not be defined by how we stand up to the likes of PSG, Brendan is building a great squad, if we get Boyata back at his best partnering Jozo, we will be a handful for anybody.

I’m hoping for the best tomorrow but regardless of result we are in a great place right now.

  24. Fantastic news on Jozo. Feared he would be for the off next summer. Even if he is this assures we get top dollar. Can this put to bed the malicious rumours that he refused to play in Astana? Would like to see improved deals for Tierney, Griffiths, Rogic and McGregor. I suspect all are outplaying their current contracts.

  25. theBHOYfromU.N.C.L.E on

Big Jozo is under the radar just about every game,8/10 as an average.Goes about his job with a minimum of fuss (cept misser) and doesn’t get the recognition he deserves imo.

Would like to see him though get forward more for the odd pot shot that was part of his game when first here,a la big Virgil.

  26. Regan on message, Level 5 advise the SFA as well as the huns, and the puppet media, making it a Celtic v Huns issue, what about the mantra that they represent ALL the clubs,? If Hamilton have an issue, deal with it, if Celtic have an issue deal with it. Why does he have to state publicly that only us are contesting this? Obviously to try and isolate Celtic, and scare off any other clubs who may be thinking about joining us? Light a fire under the lot of them i say.

  27. Regan’s statement is breathtaking in its arrogance and deflection. 41 clubs asked for a review.

I was in Aberdeen today. Two taxi drivers surprised me with their deep knowledge of the scandal. They were furious at Stewart Milne’s stance and assured me that their view was common amongst Dons fans.

The problem is that they, and us, mean nothing to Regan and his cronies.

So I was delighted to see Celtic reveal their correspondence last week. Their efforts and the campaign for a JR are our best bets for a proper review of the SFA’s conduct and governance.

  28. Well we all should know how this Snyd sham is going to unfold . We will get the easy easy questioning of Reagan , making out he is a victim here , then it will be big bad celtic rocking the boat ,and trying as they put it , raking over old coals . Why don’t we just move on . Then the old chestnut of having a few celtic supporting plants standing by , to call in on the side of poor mr Reagan . You know the kind , and we have Timmy timbhoy from parkhead on the line , and what’s your point Timmy . Oh you think sellik are out of order, and want them to just move on , what’s that , no other club are bothering . Good point Timmy . IMHO Celtic should be on to the people at that radio programme demanding a right to reply , and if not granted , all passes to celtic park should be taken away . All this should have been taken on and fixed ages ago , these people who we allow into our stadium , into our training complex , who we treat with respect ( when it is not due ) and who we allow access to our manager , players and staff ,are the ones consistently peddling the same club lie , consistently demeaning our club and supporters . Consistently playing the 3 monkeys . Hear no evil , see no evil . Speak no evil when it is concerning that cheating club . But They can always muster an anti celtic exclusive at whim , usually fabricated , or old tat . We will never get a fair crack of the whip until these rank rotten people are muzzled for good .

  29. BT – if your looking in, one of the members of the Toronto club is in Glasgow for the game tomorrow. I have directed him to the BV pre game for some nosh with done like minded gentleman. He’s a friend of Pat McG too. I told him that about 3pm would be good. His name is Gerry Quinn.
