SFA McGlennan resigns, Celtic season tickets Sold Out

171

SFA Compliance Officer, Tony McGlennan, has tendered his resignation, just weeks after issuing a Notice of Complaint over (Oldco) Rangers over their application for a Uefa licence for season 2011-12.  The issue relates to Rangers failure to pay tax relating to the Discounted Options Scheme, active during Sir David Murray’s  reign.  Murray ditched this scheme in 2002 when he plunged the club headfirst in the EBT mess which ultimately led to liquidation.

Craig Whyte’s trial last year at Glasgow High Court heard evidence which contradicted the club’s submission to the SFA in 2011.  McGlennan investigated and recommended the SFA act.  An independent panel will now have the task of deciding what action to take.  Newco Rangers are on the hook for Oldco’s football punishments, as determined by the Five Way Agreement between the SFA, Scottish Premier League, Scottish Football League, Rangers and Sevco (now Newco Rangers).

The investigation into Rangers 2011 submission took eight months and was not published until the new SFA chief exec, Ian Maxwell, was in-situ.  The SFA still work in the shadow of Ally McCoist’s “Who are these people?” veil, so it may be wise for McGlennan to move on, before a suitable punishment for misrepresentation on an application to gain access to a competition worth tens of millions is declared.  Celtic were denied a place in the 2011 Champions League qualification competition due to Rangers’ submission, an issue which led to the Res 12 campaign.

It is quite unbelievable that the season ticket Sold Out notices went up at the Celtic ticket office today.  53,000 season tickets to see 8-in-a-row, with a waiting list for those wanting to see our 9-in-a-row record matched.  While Champions League money is the salt on our chips, the club’s long-term financial stability is underpinned by season ticket sales.  The paying public is the most important revenue stream at Celtic.  These figures also underpin merchandising and commercial deals.

Well done to all season ticket holders!

    If the outcome is a carve up then i think Celtic will say something in public. I worry that wont be enough, for example showing concern as opposed to say, asking for or demanding meaningful outcomes or change. It reminds me of the Takeover panel stuff, until they use the power at their disposal, the cold shoulder, King will piss all over them.

    What justification do you have/believe Celtic will Say something in public ??

    Curious based on past 6 years with very very limited statements from Celtic

    CHAIRBHOY- I think like a few on here the timing is strange, or in sync with Regan and his No 2 leaving , and Kim Jong King’s rants, maybe ge doesn’t want to be holding the ball when the huns get bad news? Maybe feels like he has been left exposed be those 2 leaving(that is my opinion), and wants to protect his family from The Gang.HH

    All ok thanks, off on Hols this Saturday ?

    To be fair to Celtic, from memory they have commented, made a statement on 2 or possibly 3 times this past few years, from memory stating surprise at a investigation result, a legal review, and asking for a FtSFA review

    Personally with the info now in the open, I think they should legally challenge the FtSFA on shareholders behalf for loss of earning’s based on what is known ???

    Along with the outstanding work of the requisitioners, Celtic have managed to get it this far, further than many thought it would ever get. I’m sure Celtic are watching events with interest. It is only my opinion Celtic will say something if, and only if the outcome is a carve up. In the past there have been whitewashes and carve ups to which we were blindsided or asleep in the backseat. This time we can see it coming so there is no excuse. Let’s see what due process serves up in the first instance.

  9. DAVID17 @ 11:08 PM,

    Well if the outcome is a “carve up” we do have real problems… when it comes to Rangers

    The investigations have been tailored

    The hearings have been stymied

    The penalties have ranged from draconian in Craid Whyte’s case and sidestepped in Rangers’ case.

    It has been obvious the outcomes have been predetermined before the process takes place.

    If this happens again I think Celtic have plenty of ammunition and they can let fly.

    The correspondence between Peter Lawwel and Stewart Regan from July 2017 is interesting.

    Of course these letters are only in the public domain because PL called SR’s bluff, when the latter suggested if PL was so concerned about accountability and transparency they should publish…

    It cleary gives Celtic huge leeway to act if due process is not followed. In fact to say the SFA wouldn’t have a leg to stand on wouldn’t be overstating matters.

    They will be caught bang to rights…

    !!BADA BING!! @ 11:32 PM,

    Tony McGlennan’s resignation is a clear signal things aren’t right. There is no way an investigation into that licence, with so much info and evidence in the public domain should have took that long.

    As you say it can be no coincidence that the Notice of Complaints were sent so quickly after the SFA CEO & COO went.

    No doubt they’re in full intimidation mode, who would want TMcG job in these circumstances. This is not sports a Club he’s dealing with its a ubiquitous corrupt mob with members inside his own organisation.

    Seems to me he feels isolated and vulnerable sad state of affairs but he’s done the smart thing…

    Hail Hail

  10. when are people going to accept as was in ni a protestant parliment for protestant people, and you know somthing scotland is far worse than the six counties nothing will happen to the harm of sevco like i say scotland is bigoted and needs a team from ibrox.

  11. rangers dying was bad for them sevco dying cannot be tolerated would not be allowed by scottish society.

  12. I knew that we were going to beat Motherwell in the cup final,to win the Double Treble.

    Our manager is a genuis – no doubt about it.

    Hopefully we’ll be dining at the top table this season once again. Also it would be folly to discount another domestic treble.

    Expect different team tactics though, in the CL proper, should we qualify. Tactics be more akin to the cup final – stun the opposition right away, then contain them easily for the rest of the game.

    Like a cat playing with the mouse.

    WGS and Lenny were excellent in the CL.

    Magic.

    HH. ?

  13. Back in the day, Phil Mac said that 25 SMSM members had been threatened by the civil unrest mob, Angela Haggerty, Hugh Keevins, and Jim Spence among them.

    Ah mean, no Scottish media person will put their own security and that of their family’s at risk, to expose the corruption at the heart of Scottish football. Even Phil Mac had to base himself out of the reach of the SMSM and the civil unrest mob, by rocking up in Donegal ;

    So, if there is to be justice, I think it will only happen if, Celtic FC are controlled by rebellious supporter’s who construct their own board.

    That won’t happen atm because, Celtic’s custodial guardians, pulled a massive squirrel/fudge/rabbit out of the hat in the shape of, Brendan, who arrived at the club just as Rangers FC were returning to the same League as, Celtic FC, which would have presented a tricky issue as in, the Sevco/Rangers same club question?

    Ye see, when Rangers FC were previously in the the same League as, Celtic FC, both sets of fans paid £49 for tickets to see their games.

    So, Celtic PLC had a question to answer, but, in PLC style, they swerved having to answer the question, and instead, put the question to the Celtic Supporter’s by charging them £49 for tickets to see Celtic on their visit to ibrokes to take on Rangers FC. It was a sneaky move by the PLC as, the fans who had bought into the new manager, were now being put on the spot, to deal with the same club issue, an issue that should have been dealt with in the boardroom, but, that’s gonna be difficult when the boardroom had already proved that they didn’t, don’t, and never will have the cojones to deal with the difficult decisions, especially when they shamefully flung NFL under a bus, after he had proved that his team were being cheated by mibs. So, to compound the PLC’s fellony, the supporter’s paid £49 for the Old Firm same club lie rubber stamping tickets, to show that, like the PLC, the supporter’s don’t have any cojones either, and that they have also moved on.

    I’ll believe that, Rangers FC died……when I hear Celtic FC saying that to be the case.

    So far, I’ve heard – hee haw, from Celtic FC.

    That is why I say,……

    “The Game, The Game Is Over,…..The Rebels Have Gone! ”

    ………oot.

    Long time lurker here and I feel compelled to ask – Kevjungle are you for real? Why always the conflict? Why do you bother posting on a Celtic blog? You sound like a banana mate.

  15. Celtic have sold a record amount of season tickets at this early date. There is also a substantial waiting list.

    With such a show of support from the fans, why would they feel compelled to release any statements?

    HH to all

  16. Kev J @ 1.26 – I much prefer when you write in that more measured style. Both that I agree with all you say. But you’re quite right, the ‘ticket price question at the start of the season before last was a perfect opportunity to show that we regard them as no different to any other club and (a) charge £29 and (b) give them 2 – 3 thousand tickets. Would have been a perfect “I see what you did tbete” Silent Statement.

    Aff oot to swim in the Med with Mrs B.

    Life’s Good!

  17. Jobo

    But they ARE different to any other Club and there are factors which Celtic plc could point out to justify increased ticket price:

    a) They are from the same city as us therefore provide the local derby aspect;

    b) They have a massive support compared to all other Scottish Clubs;

    c) Games against then attract massive media interest;

    d) Supporters like novelty and they are a new club.

    None of the above means that I agree with increased ticket prices .

    JJ

  18. Hot Smoked

    I accept there are reasons to justify a higher price. But it’s not as if we need (or needed) the extra revenue which actually isn’t that amount anyway – say 7,500 at an EXTRA £20 = £150,000. Kust think we missed a real opportunity. Anyway, the sun’s calling….

  19. Stuff Sevco,we don’t need their supporters,no away tickets for them,same applies to our fans,if Celtic say there’s a waiting list,well the easy answer to that is give that end to fans on the list,I’m sure they will get snapped up,at a discount,for having a restricted view,which should have been sorted out long ago,and may I imply at the other end of the main Stand too, another Big Girder blocking fans views, surely in this day it shouldn’t be much of a cost for them to be replaced.

  26. Glasgow High Court Today….

    INCREDIBLE STORY

    A seven-year old boy was at the centre of a Newtonmearns family courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him.

    The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt

    The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge then suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried and said that they also beat him.

    After considering the remainder of the immediate family the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him.

    After two adjournments to check legal references and to confer with the child welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to Rangers football Club , whom the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating anyone

  27. As Celtic have sold out their season tickets could we introduce a system that if a season ticket holder can’t make the match or pass on their ticket then the seat is opened up for £10 and the money goes to the Celtic trust/ Mary’s meals etc?
