SFA McGlennan resigns, Celtic season tickets Sold Out

171

SFA Compliance Officer, Tony McGlennan, has tendered his resignation, just weeks after issuing a Notice of Complaint over (Oldco) Rangers over their application for a Uefa licence for season 2011-12.  The issue relates to Rangers failure to pay tax relating to the Discounted Options Scheme, active during Sir David Murray’s  reign.  Murray ditched this scheme in 2002 when he plunged the club headfirst in the EBT mess which ultimately led to liquidation.

Craig Whyte’s trial last year at Glasgow High Court heard evidence which contradicted the club’s submission to the SFA in 2011.  McGlennan investigated and recommended the SFA act.  An independent panel will now have the task of deciding what action to take.  Newco Rangers are on the hook for Oldco’s football punishments, as determined by the Five Way Agreement between the SFA, Scottish Premier League, Scottish Football League, Rangers and Sevco (now Newco Rangers).

The investigation into Rangers 2011 submission took eight months and was not published until the new SFA chief exec, Ian Maxwell, was in-situ.  The SFA still work in the shadow of Ally McCoist’s “Who are these people?” veil, so it may be wise for McGlennan to move on, before a suitable punishment for misrepresentation on an application to gain access to a competition worth tens of millions is declared.  Celtic were denied a place in the 2011 Champions League qualification competition due to Rangers’ submission, an issue which led to the Res 12 campaign.

It is quite unbelievable that the season ticket Sold Out notices went up at the Celtic ticket office today.  53,000 season tickets to see 8-in-a-row, with a waiting list for those wanting to see our 9-in-a-row record matched.  While Champions League money is the salt on our chips, the club’s long-term financial stability is underpinned by season ticket sales.  The paying public is the most important revenue stream at Celtic.  These figures also underpin merchandising and commercial deals.

Well done to all season ticket holders!

Yorkbhoy – great idea, and since season tickets are activated/deactivated electronically, highly feasible.

Only works though if the club doesn’t lose out, which means all public sale tickets need to be sold before season ticket seats can be offered.

We’ve got 60,000 seats and 53,000 season tickets. Accounting for accommodating away fans, there are probably 4000 public sale seats available for most matches.

That probably means only a handful of games per season are sold out, and thereafter, gives room for the idea to be applied.

Would certainly be a good idea for midweek league games where the attendance tends to have a large dip and fans are likely to know in advance that they would not be attending.

  3. It also gives more supporters a chance to see Celtic (and spend money).

Celtic do more for charity and the team get more backing.

As long as it is feasible I can’t think of a downside.. although I’m sure a few on here will.. :-)

YORKBHOY Maybe you could send your suggestion to John Paul Taylor guess there could be some logistical issues but nothing insurmountable.

For EUFA matches I get moved from my seat in block 106 to accommodate EUFA sponsors which has been going on since our first Champions league foray in 2001.For the Zenith game I was originally sent a ticket for another seat but was then sent another ticket for my own seat as Sponsors must not have took up the full allocation. Anyway on arrival my ticket did not work at the gate so was sent to the ticket office which was a nightmare.I sent John Paul Taylor a suggestion that each supervisor of the stewards that are allocated to certain turnstiles should carry a Smart card reader which would scan the card (or ticket) and ascertain that the card was valid an

I admire your faith that justice will prevail, but mi amigo, how many times has it been said they are bang to rights, jeezo, half of the sfa and most of the hun board should be in jail, yet they are still in situ scamming the honest supporter.

I won’t be holding my breath for any form of justice cos it’s no gonna happen :-(

    ==========================

Back in my working days after bringing a large project in on time and on budget during a period of temporary promotion I was asked by my boss to continue being his deputy at my temporary promotion grade.

I was delighted to accept of course but I remember one of the reasons he told me he wanted me as his cover. He said “You make things happen”

    So I like the challenge:

Here is a reminder of what has happened. :)

Here’s all the things that folk from CQN were saying.

“Res12 guys have been duped and Res12 has been kicked into the long grass.”

It clearly hasn’t. It cut the long grass. (where is TD btw?)

    “UEFA will not get involved.”

A way was found to do that and whilst the question was never asked, UEFA provided authority carrying evidence that TRFC/RIFC are a new club/company as in not the same club as RFC. They also provided key dates that allowed the SFA narrative to be challenged.

“The Compliance Officer investigation will come to nothing.”

Yet there is now a JPDT going to look at how honest RFC were in 2011.

Finally “the JPDT will come up with a fudge.”

Given the previous claims that prediction is no racing certainty because the information that has brought us to the JPDT point still exists.

In Celtic’s words to the Res12 boys in lead up to the last AGM “this isn’t going to go away” and one of the reasons is the evidence to ensure it doesn’t.

As an even older colleague once said to me in the late 60s.

“There are two kinds of people in the world.

Those that are willing to work and

Those who are willing to let them.

You are spot on about who deserves a medal though lol.
