SFA not caring enough. Morton, ooft.

658

What exactly went wrong at yesterday’s Scottish Cup draw? Plastic balls can break open, that wasn’t the problem. The rule which insists that when a ball breaks open the draw must be started again isn’t the problem either. It’s a perfectly reasonable rule, but the event still can the SFA in a dreadful light.

Imagine for a moment that you had a Cup draw to arrange live on international television. You would surely acquire the materials necessary (8 balls and a bowl), and test their effectiveness (mix the balls, pull them out, open), until you were satisfied the process was robust and not likely to embarrass the organisation.

Appropriate preparations were evidently not followed for the Scottish Cup quarter final draw.

Having got to the stage that the draw went wrong, the TV masses were then treated to the most cringe-worthy pregnant pause, as SFA president, Alan McRae completely failed to communicate, either to the watching TV audience, or to the event broadcaster SKY, why he pulled a ball out of the bowl and instead of announcing the tie, declared the draw invalid.

McRae knew the ball was opened before it was drawn, and that this invalidated the draw, but clearly the glaikit-looking TV presenter had no idea what was going on when McRae halted mid-process, neither did the TV audience. A simple explanation:

“This ball is open. Rules state the draw is invalid. We will need to start again.”

….was surely what any person possessing even remote people-awareness or communication skills would have said?

No explanation was given. We were treated instead to the site of a TV presenter trying in vain to figure out why a cup draw was scratched halfway through.

The role of SFA president requires a degree of communication skills, which Mr McRae was hugely bereft of yesterday.

As for the SFA itself, I went to their official site this morning to check the spelling of McRae’s name, only to find they still list Campbell Ogilvie as president, despite McRae’s appointment 8 months ago.

It beggars belief. They just don’t care enough to get the easy things right.

As for getting Morton at Celtic Park! Ooft.  After Ross County repeating their Hampden trick on us, Morton will fancy the same.

I know many of you have previously supported the fantastic efforts of Bundoran Bhoy. This year he is doing four runs for Solving Kids’ Cancer, in memory of Oscar Knox. His first is the Great Edinburgh (misnomer?) Run in April, the Edinburgh Marathon in May, Glasgow Men’s 10k in June and the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon in October.

He has just launched his 2016 fundraising efforts, so you can nip in here and encourage him along.

CQN awash with inverted snobbery and it’s not pretty.

Both John Keane and Dermot Desmond stepped in when stepping in was needed.

John to fill the cash flow void to the crooked bank and Dermot to help Fergus implement his plans.

Both deserve the respect and gratitude of Celtic supporters, alongside Fergus the Architect and Saviour of the club.

    Tonyrome,

My father had a mate, similar to Jimmy Anderson, except for the Tory voting bit.

Andy was the finest Celtic supporter that has been my privilege to know.

His love for Celtic was pure, unadulterated by his background or any other influences.

He worked in the masonic hotbed of the tool room in Beardmore’s, where he was virtually shunned by his colleagues. Equally his bowling club, which he only joined because he could get a drink between 2.30 and 5.00 on a Saturday!

Due to his dour Presbyterian background, his treatment by his peers only served to make his love of Celtic stronger.

Unfortunately, his son never followed him, he follow followed, and out of respect, we would never refer to them as huns in Andy’s company.

Have the club actually ‘welcomed’ it or played on the rivalry?

Or are you basing that on DD’s much quoted statements? The man that, as has been all over the board today, has so little interest in the club he never catches a game or even an agm.

If they do trot out ‘old firm’ or even a ‘catch the most important game of the season’ marketing line I’ll be right with you.

Other than that there’s not much they can do but await the inevitable in stony silence.

It pains me that ultimately it’ll be our own fans that will be instrumental in resurrecting the rivalry.

If they don’t play ball it doesn’t happen.

CFC have invested very well for the club, all you have to do is have a look at the place when you walk in from London RD. It’s a fantastic site to behold, as good an arena as any in Europe without a doubt, but that just appeared no work was put into that, it was as expected? Talk about ungrateful

I of course respect that your opinion of the directors and board are different to mine, however, I base mine on hard evidence of annual accounts and obvious infrastructure enhancements, latest of course being the first UK club to install rail-seating.

Where I have concerns of course is the playing side and our lack of progress during the absence of Sevco.

We through away gilt-edged chances to qualify for the CL over the last two seasons – from eminently winable positions – if we had converted these chances, we would now be in ‘dreamland’ and Ronny would have signed a new ten year contract.

That we are not in that position and are struggling for form at present,is squarely down to the football department – NOT the officers of the club.

I am now behind Ronny and the team for the rest of the season…..BUT we must start getting ‘more bang for our substantial £38 million wage-bill buck’

The board are not perfect. IMO.

I do not know what Bankier and Livingston actually do for Celtic in their capacity as board members.

I do know I wouldn’t replace them with Whyte, Green, King or Murray.

I say that full in the knowledge that King is a hugely wealthy multi millionaire just waiting his chance to unleash his fortune for the benefit of, er the ran**rs.

I’m pretty sure the standing area is going to be where the Green Brigade are. It will not be particularly big.

I’m hoping it will be a success. Eventually I think we should have the whole Jock Stein standing. But we will see what happens.

The Council and the Police aren’t fans of standing. Too much fun.

    TTT,

Where did you find inverted snobbery ?

If you had bothered to read the discussion before choosing to make partial judgements you’ll have seen the discussion was making a point, of how terms were phrased and the implied interpretations of the phraseology, ‘money poured into the club’ implies an altruistic motive, my point is that there was never an altruistic motive behind DD’s investment however there was behind MrKeane’s motives, no inverted snobbery as interpreted by you to cast aspersions, simply a discussion on the different motives and terminologies applied.

    Weeminger,

Sorry pal I’m no following your logic, you asked me a question and I gave a very simple answer which identified exactly what you wanted an example. I think you might need to revisit what was being discussed.

    Our absent board members interests

Our CEO is trusted implicitly to run the Company in the clubs interests

I offered that he is running the club in the interests of the absent board member

I offered the interests of the absent board member may conflict with the interests of the club

    You asked for an example

I offered that the absent board member welcoming the resurrection of a rivalry that has seen many of our clubs supporters dead, is in conflict with what is best for our club, do you believe we should welcome a return of this rivalry.

Point being supporters IMO are the most important part of our club and the death of one to make a fast buck is in direct conflict with what is best for the club, no ?

  20. A real shame Sevco won’t get any TV money from next weeks SC replay v Killie,as Champions League is on the same night……:)))

  21. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on 9th February 2016 4:07 pm

Aye a wee mix up. I was meaning actual decisions taken by the club so far. I’m not sure there have been any along the lines of welcoming them or playing on it. There’s no denying that’s what DD said. I’m not sure that’s been put into action per se,

Again from my side I’ve nothing to back this up, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he was absent enough that his only concern is his investment maintaining £X value and beyond that he doesn’t care too much how it’s achieved. I doubt he’s on the phone to PL on a daily or even weekly basis.

Better get a wee bit work done before the day is out. Thanks as ever for the points.

    Timaloy29,

I did write it. Imagine that, how does that work eh :)

    Robert88,

As I said a very conservative estimate,

There is the loan that he draws £600K every year on, a loan he refuses to allow the club to pay off, so we will be paying that in perpetuity I think it was highlighted as.

So what’s that since 94 = 22 years = £13.2M and that’s before you start paying a dividend on his shares.

Even when the club make a loss he gets a dividend trick being I have absolutely. No problem with him getting his dividend.

Any comment on what seems to be the sudden emergence of China as a major player in the football world?

I suppose that is part of a new strategy in China whereas before they were rather closed to outside influences.

But I wonder could the fact they were able to waltz in and outspend the EPL in January, the EPL who have taken ~23 years to reach this point through increasing TV revenues, lead to a view that 4 or 5 global ‘brands’ in the EPL top flight just isnt enough?

Given the relative populations of China and the UK, if China decide they want to compete there is only one winner, and already middle of the road Chinese clubs appear to be able to test the resolve of Chelsea for their top stars,

    HH

  26. Is what DD takes out made up of dividend income and salary as a director? if so is it along these along these lines? Taking some est figures from the last 5 years the dividend pay out was 5 years ago about £544,000 then dropped a little and last year was about £480, 000, DD gets about 34% of that..as he has about 34% of the preference shares that generate divs ?

    So say 22 years times 34% of 544, 000 = £4, 069,120 .

    Plus say 22 years at £25, 000 p.a salary = £550,000.

    Total = £4,619,120

Or is there more ? Apologies for just being rough estimates or if totally wrong regarding dividend income

  27. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Trad88,

That is an excellent discussion, could China bring an end to England’s command of the football TV bubble, when all the players decide that’s the place to be for the money the telly won’t be long in following especially with the potential viewing figures they have.

Will China give the western media free reign to broadcast and comment.
