“The Scottish FA’s preference was for three o’clock on a Saturday”, so SFA chief exec, Ian Maxwell told the media yesterday about Celtic and Inverness’ Scottish Cup Final on 3 June. Having stood on this plank, he then prevaricated.
“It’s very much a flagship competition for us.” So convinced is he of this, that he moved it from the flagship kick off time.
“The English FA Cup final is on at three o’clock, the Women’s Champions League final is at three o’clock. So you have a decision to make: do you go up against them and diminish the competition and reduce the viewership that you could get across the UK or do you move it and try and give it its own breathing space?”
Flagships have their own orbit. If you want to move them to avoid bodies with greater orbits, you don’t really believe in your flagship.
He then co-opted Inverness into the decision, as the club thought a 12:30 kick off was even worse than 17:30.
There was also trite and inaccurate mumblings about the Cup Final being shown live on BBC One throughout the UK, which will not happen.
It be overwhelmingly Celtic fans who watch the Scottish Cup Final on TV, Inverness fans will all be at Hampden, how many neutrals are likely to tune into a game with so little promise of competitive drama?
If you know where to look for it, BBC Scotland is available in the rest of the UK. How many viewers do the SFA believe they will attract in rUK, in the hours after a Manchester derby FA Cup Final? It will be low thousands and scant reward for inconveniencing two sets of fans who are thrilled to be in the Scottish Cup Final, which, unlike the SFA execs, genuinely believe it is a flagship occasion.

BIG JIMMY
The reason is, no club is going to lose money by allowing the away club to sell PPV subscriptions. Similarly, where a Celtic home game is on Celtic PPV, away team fans can only watch by paying for Celtic PPV.
…………..
Cheers TOM.
I will give HIBS PPV the £12.99 Tomorrow morning.

AT. Thanks for sharing that remarkable film on the life of Father Des. Left with a lot to think about after listening to that man’s struggles and his desire to work tirelessly for the good of his people. Hope many others on here have taken time out to watch it.
It certainly was truly inspirational
So Glad you enjoyed my friend Gerry volunteered and worked with him at the centre

Yup! Big Tom still has a bit of hunskelping in him , although I don’t see it happening .
Sevco clearout unsurprising apart from one perhaps?
Arfield.
Allegedly, very good in training and the dressing room …. and his last contract extension was as cheap as chips.
Hot on the heels of Ryan Jack getting only a one-year extension at the age of 31 ?
Absolutely nothing conclusive of course but suggests capacity to work FSR is limited.
Anyone know who asked Ange that question?

I think it is a nonsense argument about the 3 o’clock kick off to be honest. I wish it had always been at a different time. I grew up in Ireland never seeing the Celtic play other than in Europe. On Cup Final day we used to get a 30 second clip at half time of what was happening in Glasgow and maybe another 1 minute at full time when everything was over at Wembley.
How many bars in Ireland or England do you think would change channels from the FA Cup to put on a game from Scotland. This is an opportunity for the Scottish game to highlight it’s own game without interference from elsewhere

IMHO this is a very good article.
Respect to “Editor”.
One thing jumps out.
By design or by accident …
… the SFA are useless.
What inevitably happens when talent searches spanning eight decades overlook capability and focus on handshakes.
I would be delighted to see Tom Rogic in a Celtic jersey once again. Doubt it somehow.
An indictment of the SFA thst they see the women’s champions league final as a more attractive fixture than the Scottish cup final.
Please tell me it’s true ? Did sevco really pay 7million for banjo bhoy and he’s away for hee haw ? He must have scored about ten times for them in four years (probably got them more penalties)
And as for the £20mill fenian junkie. Thank you Alfredo.

Though shown on TV back in the mid 1950s, the Scottish Cup final was banished from our screens for decades I think. Celtic played in so many finals that the chance of watching the FA Cup Final on the same day were almost non-existent even in Scotland, never mind Ireland or England. Replays maybe.

*I only remember us v Clyde and Falkirk v Kilmarnock being broadcast live and it was only after Dunfermline won the cup in 1968, which Jock attended as our game away at Ease End Park had been rescheduled, while the huns were throwing the League away at home tae the sheep that no domestic games were shown on the same day as the final.
Just finished Guilt on BBC I player, highly recommend….
Clinko: thanks for that. Similar to my own memories.
Network 2 and Setanta were my first introductions to regular live coverage.
Season ticket followed years later.
Lewandowski pulls one back for Barcelona who were getting a doing from Real Valladolid who are currently in 17th position.
I understand a greetin’ faced ex-Valladolid player who once spent a season at Barcelona is doing the rounds on Spanish TV saying this proves there is very little between the two teams.
tontine tim
So not many in the 50’s. Don’t think there were any in the 60s or 70s.
Dont think I saw the Scottish final on TV before the 80s and you probably had to be in Scotland at the time.
The FA has messed about with their own finals recently and had it not been for two Manchester teams in the final they would probably have played it at 5.30. Think the Met changed their mind.
77 cup final was live on tv.
Paddy Crerand shouting “penalty, two hands” when BFDJ conceded the penalty.
Ironically, no cameras were allowed inside Easter Road when we clinched the title there in the same season.
Aye
From painful memories the 72 cup final was televised. 6-1 v Hibs.
Painful because it was my sister’s wedding, and my mother threatened to cut anyone off if we left the function room at the Coatbridge Coop. No one dared because she maybe meant it.
We had to be satisfied with the younger brother sneaking out every so often to bring back updates from the bar.
From the Celtic Wiki
Celtic tore a strong Hibs side aside with a devastating display of attacking football on a pleasant May afternoon. It was an entertaining game but the contest was over after Celtic’s third goal when Hibs disintegrated. Celtic went for the throat in the second half and could have had more than six.
Before the game there was disappointment when both David Hay and Harry Hood were declared unfit because of injury.
Dixie Deans was star man with a brilliant hat trick and did a famous ‘roly poly’ cart wheel on the Hampden turf after his third goal. This was his first cup final he was appearing in and was only days after the tragedy of his penalty miss against Inter Milan in the European cup semi final.
Every Celtic player was on form but there were truly outstanding performances from Bobby Murdoch and Jimmy Johnstone. McNeill scored in his third Scottish cup final – a magnificent record for a centre half.
This was Jim Craig’s last game and he went out on a high with his Celtic team mates giving him a send off to remember.
The attendance of 106,000 eclipsed the glamourous Wembley final between Leeds and Arsenal by 6,000.
The winning Celtic team was minus the talents of McGrain, Hay, Hood, Lennox, Davidson and Quinn which gives an example of the strength in depth Celtic had at that time. It was to be a pity that the Celts did not win the penalty shoot out as a European Cup final against a Johan Cruff inspired Ajax would have been quite a prospect and with Celtic in this kind of form they could easily have won it again as in 1967.
BTW. Dixie’s hat trick did nothing to assuage the missed penalty against AC Milan. I still can’t forgive or forget it to this day.
Let it go!
Let it go!
😜
My friends in Celtic,
Football times are now governed by TV.
Just cast your mind back a year, Chelsea v Liverpool FA cup final @ 04.45 hrs pm.
Imo, our Scottish Cup Final is our showpiece and should ko at the traditional time of 03.00 hrs pm.
However we cannot say the Englush haven’t had similar mad ko times.

Great show and although set in Edinburgh, a lot of it filmed in Glasgow. The now shutdown Admiral pub included.

Good morning all.
GG – thank you for link last night to Ange presser.
Enjoyed it.
And so did he by the looks of him.
Came across extremely relaxed.
Funny – when I’d read (but not actually heard) his reaction to the silly Sevco question I got the impression his response was abrasive.
That impression was wrong.
Clever guy simply and calmly put down a marker.
– Talk is cheap.
– There will be a lot of talk over the summer
– we’ll talk on the pitch next season
PS – still don’t know which galoot asked the question.
