SFA-Ogilvie statement of inaction while SPL split looms

687

SFA president, Campbell Ogilvie, today issued a statement through the SFA website amid a growing clamour for action over the on-going controversy over the alleged improper registration of players at Rangers during the time he was company/general secretary and director.

It will be an enormous disappointment to the BBC journalist who gave him solid backing only yesterday, to hear the president admit that he benefited from the now-infamous Employee Benefit Trust (EBT) scheme, however, this will not be news to any of you.  Without wanting to be cynical, this feels like we are being fed a completely irrelevant headline while the real matter at hand was yet again not addressed.  Perhaps we should be grateful the gratuitous but irrelevant headline didn’t involve the Krankies.

Ogilvie completely refused to acknowledge or address the question of improper registration of players, instead referring to an incomplete list of his duties at Rangers.

The SPL split will happen in 25 days at which point fixtures will be arranged for the top and bottom six in the league.  This issue has to be investigated, reported and perhaps appealed all the way to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, before then.  Kilmarnock, Aberdeen and St Mirren are currently battling for seventh place, if it was found that Rangers played improperly registered players this season, they could stand to lose enough points to demote them to the bottom half of the table.

The SFA cannot continue to sleep on the job.  While Ogilvie’s position as president is important, he is a sideshow to enabling Scottish football to finish the season on time.

The SFA, the SPL, the game itself is in enormous crisis. Michel Platini, where are you? How bad does it need to get before you get involved?

A number of years ago after a night out in the bright lights of shawlands my friends and i were attacked by a gang of hun thugs at pollockshaws rd. Two guys and three lassies. The guys had knives. One of my mates was in a coma for 2 weeks. The other had a collapsed lung. I had been stabbed 7 times after a lengthy wrestling match.

What started it was one of my mates had a crucifix on that must have been shining in the street light…fenian bees ensued…and the rest is history.

Here´s tomorrows Cheltenham write up lads.fill yer boots. This guy is good.

    Good evening, Brian

A terrific day of Cheltenham punting!

It started off disaterously with one of my two falling and bringing down the other one! But then by jingo we kicked into gear!

The three shortlisted for the Neptune came home 1st, 2nd and 3rd and I know from the many e-mails received that the 229/1 trifecta was scooped by plenty. the dutch was secured plus that substantial “80” off the third placed horse.

BOBS WORTH….don’t say you were not told days ago! A cracking good winner that I went in on several times today @ 5/1! I could not believe that price.

FINIANS RAINBOW….kerching….all bets landed there, too.

    KAZLIAN…ran a blinder…”80″ and profits banked.

Tomorrow looks tough, Thursday always is!

Enjoy the read and best of luck tomorrow.

    JEWSON NOVICES’ CHASE

This is not really a race I can profile for you as it is in only it’s second season.

The problem for punters is PEDDLERS CROSS. Surely, if he had been anywhere near his best, he would have contested the Arkle….he would have been beaten but, he’d have been there.

The option to come here smacks of a trainer 100% unsure of his horse. He trades favourite and if he arrived here in the same form as he was before he got slam dunked by SPRINTER SACRE, he will be tough to beat.

It is a race for horses that fall between the two stools that are the Arkle and the RSA. Very decent horses that might lack the speed to win the shorter one and fail for stamina with regards that longer trip.

The Irish won this last term and are very strongly represented again this time, SIR DES CHAMPS, one we enjoyed very much last season, unbeaten coming into this. He is though, their only genuine challenger.

CRISTAL BONUS….I profiled this horse for you in one of my early Newsletters – this is what I wrote then:

Looking back at results over the last seven days that might have an influence on what goes on in less than two weeks time, I would be thinking that CRISTAL BONUS put up arguably the most impressive display last Saturday. Members were advised to punt him straight win that day and, as a result of that very easy win, he has shortened for the Jewson. I have looked at his overall profile and he appears to me to perform better in small fields and the horse’s form in fields consisting of more than eight runners reads 752684….his form in races of eight runners or less reads 111112….could be I’m seeing ghosts but that does not inspire me to punt him.

Tomorrow we have 12 runners and with the above very much in mind, I cannot be advocating we punt him.

I love CHAMPION COURT. Last season I made a note to follow this horse over fences this season and he has done me proud. I included him in my list of 20 to follow and with two wins on the board from five runs (it would have been three had he not gone base over apex first time up), at 3/1 and 7/1, he has paid for his place in that list.

FOR NON STOP is ultra consistent, won last time up but his Cheltenham form 2FF puts me off slightly.

SOLIX is also a very consistent type but I really do not see why he should reverse previous Cheltenham form with CHAMPION COURT.

    IN CONCLUSION

Pretty much guessing but two of these are in my list of 20 to follow – CHAMPION COURT and SIR DES CHAMPS. I will put my faith in them, dutch, go 20/80 SIR DES CHAMPS and reverse an exacta.

    PERTEMPS FINAL

A 24 runner cavalry charge that has been absolutely impossible to solve. The last 10 winners have been priced 20/1, 16/1, 16/1, 18/1, 14/1, 50/1, 10/1, 50/1, 6/1f, 20/1 so, my best advice is…just watch it rather than punt it.

It’s a bit like playing hopscotch on a minefield this. I have something of a map across it but one false move and we’ll be crow fodder.

Let’s start with the premiss that the winner will be a big price….certainly 14/1 or bigger. Let us also rule out anything carrying more than 11st 2lb as only one of the last 10 winners has done so.

I am also ruling out anything younger than six and older than nine, as that is the span covered by nine of the last 10 winners.

    A “shortlist” contains:

RUSSIAN WAR, RICK, SERGENT GUIB’S, SIR KEZBAAH, CAPE TRIBULATION, PINEAU DE RE, ACROSS THE BAY, PALACE JESTER, CANTLOW, BARWELL BRIDGE, PRINCE ERIK, SCOTSBROOK CLOUD, BELLFLOWER BOY.

I am now ruling out anything that has raced within the last three weeks

RUSSIAN WAR, RICK, SERGENT GUIB’S, SIR KEZBAAH, CAPE TRIBULATION, PINEAU DE RE, ACROSS THE BAY, PALACE JESTER, CANTLOW, BARWELL BRIDGE, PRINCE ERIK, SCOTSBROOK CLOUD, BELLFLOWER BOY.

    One gone.

You need a horse that is slightly simmering so, having actually had a run within the last seven weeks or so, but no longer, sees us retaining:

RICK, SERGENT GUIB’S, SIR KEZBAAH, CAPE TRIBULATION, PINEAU DE RE, ACROSS THE BAY, PALACE JESTER, BARWELL BRIDGE, PRINCE ERIK, SCOTSBROOK CLOUD.

Looking at the official rating of those horses that have won in the last 10 seasons it spans 129 – 142, no better, no worse so:

CAPE TRIBULATION, PINEAU DE RE, ACROSS THE BAY, PALACE JESTER, BARWELL BRIDGE, PRINCE ERIK, SCOTSBROOK CLOUD.

Eight of the 10 winners had won over three miles at some point in their lives and the qualifiers from my ever-diminishing short list are:

CAPE TRIBULATION, ACROSS THE BAY, PALACE JESTER, PRINCE ERIK, SCOTSBROOK CLOUD.

Previous Cheltenham Festival form looks to have a vital bearing on this race and of those listed in that final shortlist, we can pluck two.

    IN CONCLUSION

CAPE TRIBULATION and PRINCE ERIK are the only pair that I will work with. My staking wont be huge because I don’t want today’s profits to be blown to smithereens.

    Dutch, 2 x 20/80’s and a reverse exacta.

    RYANAIR CHASE

This is a little crackerjack. The secret to finding the winner of this appears to be, look only for horses that have won at Cheltenham in the past. All seven previous winners wore that badge with pride.

ALBERTAS RUN, CAPTAIN CHRIS, FORPADYTHEPLASTERER, GREAT ENDEAVOUR, LITTLE JOSH, NOBLE PRINCE, POQUELIN…the winner comes from that lot.

This is another race in which we have no need to search for ghosts. The winner will be in the first three on the morning tissue and only NOBLE PRINCE, of that group, fulfills my criteria.

    IN CONCLUSION

I will simply play a 20/80 NOBLE PRINCE.

    LADBROKES WORLD HURDLE

If there is one race I do not have to debate it’s this one. On this planet (currently), no staying hurdler can lace the boots of BIG BUCKS.

One day he will get beaten but at this moment in time the horse considered, from this field, to have the best chance of doing so, has yet to win over a staying trip.

Question. Would you back OSCAR WHISKY to do it?

    My answer. No

    IN CONCLUSION

If you must have a bet just enjoy a small exacta BIG BUCKS to beat VOLER LA VEDETTE. The latter is consistent, stays the trip, guaranteed and is a huge price.

I will just be sitting back enjoying watching what is the best stayer I have ever seen.

    BYRNE GROUP PLATE HANDICAP CHASE

Every bit as impossible as that Pertemps race earlier….possibly even harder.

    25/1, 18/1, 33/1, 66/1, 12/1, 14/1, 25/1, 12/1, 16/1, 25/1

Still want me to temp you into playing?

Eight of the last 10 races have been won by a horse carrying no more than 10st 9lb. it’s no good coming here fresh…slightly simmering but, not fresh. Nine of the last 10 winners had run within the last seven weeks so, let’s give ourselves a squeak by drawing up a little shortlist.

MAD MOOSE, CHARINGWORTH, FINE PARCHMENT, GANSEY, NICEONEFRANKIE, THE COCKNEY MACKEM, RADETSKY MARCH, LIFE OF A LUSO, KILCREA ASLA.

Having run prominently last time out was also seen as a plus, nine of the last 10 winners having finished in the first five in their last race, before arriving here.

FINE PARCHMENT, GANSEY, NICEONEFRANKIE, THE COCKNEY MACKEM, LIFE OF A LUSO, KILCREA ASLA.

    Down to six!

Eight of the last ten winners had already run at a Festival…do any qualify?

    GANSEY

    IN CONCLUSION

Let’s not get silly here. If GANSEY wins this I will do that dance performed by that guy in the TV advert for an Irish Lottery win!

Having spent a little while doing this race, I will have a 20/80 using nowt but fun money.

FULKE WALWYN KIM MUIR HANDICAP CHASE

    My brain hurts.

Last season I advised everyone reading to lump on JUNIOR at the price available that evening. Many got on at 6/1 and the horse flew in @ 10/3.

No JUNIOR this season, I’m afraid.

EXMOOR RANGER, SWING BILL, FAASEL, SLIPPERS PERCY and THE SAWYER cannot win this if the age group stat holds water.

The winner will have finished in the first three on either of the last two times we saw them and that’s my first short list.

UP THE BEAT, BECAUSEICOULDNTSEE, MOSTLY BOB, MIDNIGHT APPEAL, SMART ME UP, ADAMS ISLAND, THE HOLLINWELL, FRONTIER SPIRIT, BRACKLOON HIGH, FREDO, PIRAYA, TIME FOR SPRING, GURTACRUE.

I will not entertain a horse that has not previously won over three miles and so after weeding those from the list above we have:

MOSTLY BOB, MIDNIGHT APPEAL, SMART ME UP, ADAMS ISLAND, THE HOLLINWELL, SUMMERY JUSTICE, BRACKLOON HIGH, FREDO, GURTACRUE.

Ni Irish trained horses have won this since Nelson lost an eye and so that’s ADAMS ISLAND and SMART ME UP gone.

    Down to seven.

I’m only interested in selecting a horse that will be ridden by a very experienced amateur. Six of the last seven winners were ridden by an amateur not making a claim of any kind:

THE HOLLINWELL, SUMMERY JUSTICE, BRACKLOON HIGH and GURTACRUE now make up the list I’m concentrating on.

The next fact I found very interesting….all 10 winners of the last 10 runnings had competed over three miles in their last races before coming here

SUMMERY JUSTICE, BRACKLOON HIGH and GURTACRUE

    IN CONCLUSION

The three left will constitute my dutch, I will play a 20/80 BRACKLOON HIGH and SUMMERY JUSTICE plus, cover them in exotics.

Have a brilliant evening…see you in the morning!

  19. Listened to Tom English tonight. On Celtic fans’ scepticism regarding Murray’s claims to having been duped, he said, “You see, that’s what we’re dealing with here. Some people simply will not believe anything” before mentioning something about conspiracy theorists.

The same journalist took great delight in ridiculing Phil Macgiollabhain for wrongly predicting Rangers to go into admin at the end of October, lampooning him as an ‘online Nostradamus’ (we now know, of course, that they were being kept afloat by mortgaged future season ticket income).

I’ll leave you with an excerpt from an article English wrote in response to Johnston’s public misgivings about Whyte, at the same time as Celtic Underground article detailing the MBB’s murky business background:

Unless he’s a complete madman – spending millions on getting rid of Lloyds and Murray and then not bothering to invest in the business he has just bought – then we must assume that he is going to do what he says. He has hung his reputation on delivering what he has said. What is Johnston thinking? That Whyte will take control of the club and then go, “HaHa! Fooled ye all! I don’t have another bob to my name! We’re all going down in flames!”
