SFA-Ogilvie statement of inaction while SPL split looms

687

SFA president, Campbell Ogilvie, today issued a statement through the SFA website amid a growing clamour for action over the on-going controversy over the alleged improper registration of players at Rangers during the time he was company/general secretary and director.

It will be an enormous disappointment to the BBC journalist who gave him solid backing only yesterday, to hear the president admit that he benefited from the now-infamous Employee Benefit Trust (EBT) scheme, however, this will not be news to any of you.  Without wanting to be cynical, this feels like we are being fed a completely irrelevant headline while the real matter at hand was yet again not addressed.  Perhaps we should be grateful the gratuitous but irrelevant headline didn’t involve the Krankies.

Ogilvie completely refused to acknowledge or address the question of improper registration of players, instead referring to an incomplete list of his duties at Rangers.

The SPL split will happen in 25 days at which point fixtures will be arranged for the top and bottom six in the league.  This issue has to be investigated, reported and perhaps appealed all the way to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, before then.  Kilmarnock, Aberdeen and St Mirren are currently battling for seventh place, if it was found that Rangers played improperly registered players this season, they could stand to lose enough points to demote them to the bottom half of the table.

The SFA cannot continue to sleep on the job.  While Ogilvie’s position as president is important, he is a sideshow to enabling Scottish football to finish the season on time.

The SFA, the SPL, the game itself is in enormous crisis. Michel Platini, where are you? How bad does it need to get before you get involved?

  10. I am enjoying alex Thomson`s involvement in Rangers` revelations. Alex is one of the really good guys in journalism ie succulent lamb does not buy his support. It seems to me that his blog is about how, with the demise of Rangers, Scottish Football could actually be stronger IF Rules and Regulations lead to a more even distribution of wealth. His blog is really in support of the “diddy” teams` point of view and from their perspective, I cannot disagree.

Here is what he said about us:

” Finally a word about the Old Firm and use of. About five zillion Celtic fans have pointed out how offensive they find it to be bracketed with Rangers. The answer my Celtic friends, lies in the words of these last three blogs and the verdict of your fellow fans is upon you. Like it or not there’s a firm, it’s old and it’s Celtic-Rangers and until the power balance is shifted by whatever means, that won’t change much.

Remember Burns and the gift of seeing yourselves as others see you.”

Difficult to argue against that. Remember, Alex is NOT writing about Establishment bias in favour of Rangers. Nor, indeed, is he writing specifically about Rangers. What he is trying to do is show that Rangers deserve to disappear and that Scottish football, far from needing THEM, could flourish in their absence. He is giving the views of others about “The Old Firm”. By showing that we, Celtic Supporters, would also like a more competitive League, we could finally rid ourselves of the much hated “Old Firm” blemish.

A united front from all the SPL clubs would afford the opportunity to be rid of that bedrock of bigotry and supremism that goes under the guise of Rangers.

I accept that the Gang of Ten meeting was hardly condusive to unity but our support of a “level playing field” would soon change that attitude.

Of course problems will have to be overcome when you consider the massive advantage we have in terms of attendance figures but, where there is a will and all that.

Let`s hope Alex`s hinted at TV enquiry into all this becomes a reality. It can only be good for Scottish football and, consequently, for us Celtic fans.

BlantyreKev – I don’t like that tweet from Regan. It smacks of smugness.

If they try and hide behind sophistry then only UEFA’s involvement can help clean the SFA/SPL up.

On the bright side I still think the huns are stupid, hehehe.

  12. So Minty was duped into selling the huns, the way I see it he wanted some fool to put their money into paying off the LTSB debt and take the risk of winning the FTT. When this happened he would be prepared to sell his shares, 85%, and ownership of the club for £1.00, without disclosing the fact that there was a small tax bill to be paid. He intended to be the duper and not the dupe. I don’t think Minty really cared where the money came from as long as it gave him an escape route from being the guy who took the huns into liquidation.

Now whether Dufus & Dweeb like it or not CW owns huns FC ( in admin), he did not use the Ticketus money to purchase said club directly but used the money to allow him to purchase the club legally for £1.00 and it might be very difficult to overturn CW’s ownership of the club in court.

If the administrators manage to legally block Ticketus as a creditor then I would expect Ticketus to pursue CW for that money who in turn would add that £ 24.4M plus interest, plus his intended asking price in return for selling his shares to a new owner. Ticketus will not walk away.

Now the administrators knew when they negotiated the 75% wage cut that they were not, legally, administrators so are these wage cuts and any written agreements between players and admin still legally binding?

  13. I am no expert on company law. However, if as has been claimed in a previous post that it was Rangers duty to inform the FSA that it was in administration, would failure to so incur a further financial penalties and disbarment of culpable parties from holding directorships for some period of time?

Sorry for the endless sentence nature of the above.

  15. In yesterday’s Herald Minty expressed concern for the well being of Scottish Football.

No such concerns in his egotistical ‘Loadsaamoney’ days of setting the wages bar so high, honestly or otherwise, that no one could compete without knackering themselves. Just another self serving and now desperately self protecting hypocrite.

The facts are is that so far Campbell Ogilvie might still be getting paid by a Rangers EBT as he has not yet denied it.

Duff & Phelps have been working for a month now.

If Craig Whyte is not the owner and is an irrelevance as tehy say then who is going to pay D&P

Normally it would be Craig Whyte.

Craig Whyte wants to rack up as much debt as possible as it makes his situation as preferred creditor more secure if he turns out to be secured creditor.

That is Craig Whyte now owing an extra 1 million for Duff & Phelps so far.

The tax bill has also increased by 1 million since 14th Feb

K BROADFOOT DEPENDS ON SAVINGS AFTER RANGERS PAY CUT

Kirk Broadfoot has revealed he is now living on his savings

    Thursday March 15,2012

    By Scott Burns

    Have your say(0)

KIND-HEARTED Kirk Broadfoot has revealed he is now living on his savings but was more than happy to take a 75 percent wage cut to help keep Rangers alive.

The Scottish international was one of more than 11 first-team players who agreed to take just 25 percent of their wages for the remainder of the season, while other lower earners took 50 and 25 percent cuts to help prevent casualties in other areas of the club.

Broadfoot, who became a new dad, admitted he couldn’t have lived with himself if his boyhood heroes and had gone from administration to the wall.

Broadfoot said: “I have taken a 75 percent cut until the end of the season. The money I will be left with won’t pay my bills but I am lucky because I have made some decent money in my time at Rangers.

“I have been able to save and invest in one or two things. I have tried to look after the pounds and pence. I have got a bit of money behind to see my family through this next two to three months and so I am lucky enough on that front, but it is not just about me.

I have taken a 75 percent cut until the end of the season

    Kirk Broadfoot

“It is about every single player in our dressing room, all the players and management staff have played their part.It is not about individuals because we have made this gesture as a team.

“We are all in this together and it will be together, along with the fans that we will come through this difficult time. The most important thing throughout all this wasn’t individuals but preserving the long-term future of Rangers Football Club.”

RANGERS have become the target of a second American buy-out, Record Sport can this morning reveal.

The crisis-ravaged Ibrox club are being lined up for a possible takeover involving Chicago firm Club 9 Sports who have held discussions with administrators Duff and Phelps this week.

Club 9 Sports are an offshoot of parent company Prometheus Capital Partners, a private merchant bank who describe themselves as ‘better turnaround specialists than Donald Muir and Mike McGill’.

They have been circling British football for almost two years, looking for a chance to buy their way into the game. In May 2010 they failed in a bid to bail out Sheffield Wednesday.

They tried again last year with a proposed takeover of Tranmere – but after almost five months of negotiations the Prenton Park outfit showed them the door also.

Now Club 9 Sports believe they may have spotted another opportunity, in Glasgow, where the SPL champions are battling for survival.

They have joined financial big-hitters the Fortress Investment Group, from New York, in indicating interest.

But last night top brass from Duff and Phelps were thought to be unimpressed by either approach. What the top brass of the investment groups think of Duff & Phelps professionalism was not something we are prepared to speculate on.

The administrators have yet to receive any kind of direct contact from Fortress who, it has been claimed by myself and Keith, are ready to blow some of their £27billion fortune on rescuing Rangers, despite no track record of investing in sport. It is now becoming extremely difficult to keep spinning these stories without being lampooned or leaving ourselves exposed to legal retribution. This is why it takes two of us to write them now. Safety in numbers and more difficult for any legal recourse of action.

This morning Duff and Phelps will be more concerned with events closer to home. Their legal team will appear at Edinburgh’s Court of Session to seek a ruling on the £24.4million deal struck between shamed owner Craig Whyte and investment firm Ticketus.

Duff and Phelps will ask a judge to examine the legality of the contract Whyte used to raise funds for his catastrophic £18m buy-out. A decision is not expected today.

Paul Murray, the man who has put together the Blue Knights consortium, has struck an alliance with Ticketus. Yes we are going to keep repeating this until we are red whyte and blue in the face.

Like Murray, multi-millionaire Brian Kennedy is a serious contender and is expected to make an offer within the next 24 hours if all else fails.

A Singapore consortium, fronted by Glasgow-based businessman Shazad Bakhsh, is also thought to be putting a package together to send to his mother for Christmas.
