SFA-Ogilvie statement of inaction while SPL split looms

687

SFA president, Campbell Ogilvie, today issued a statement through the SFA website amid a growing clamour for action over the on-going controversy over the alleged improper registration of players at Rangers during the time he was company/general secretary and director.

It will be an enormous disappointment to the BBC journalist who gave him solid backing only yesterday, to hear the president admit that he benefited from the now-infamous Employee Benefit Trust (EBT) scheme, however, this will not be news to any of you.  Without wanting to be cynical, this feels like we are being fed a completely irrelevant headline while the real matter at hand was yet again not addressed.  Perhaps we should be grateful the gratuitous but irrelevant headline didn’t involve the Krankies.

Ogilvie completely refused to acknowledge or address the question of improper registration of players, instead referring to an incomplete list of his duties at Rangers.

The SPL split will happen in 25 days at which point fixtures will be arranged for the top and bottom six in the league.  This issue has to be investigated, reported and perhaps appealed all the way to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, before then.  Kilmarnock, Aberdeen and St Mirren are currently battling for seventh place, if it was found that Rangers played improperly registered players this season, they could stand to lose enough points to demote them to the bottom half of the table.

The SFA cannot continue to sleep on the job.  While Ogilvie’s position as president is important, he is a sideshow to enabling Scottish football to finish the season on time.

The SFA, the SPL, the game itself is in enormous crisis. Michel Platini, where are you? How bad does it need to get before you get involved?

  1. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!!..Truth and Justice will always prevail on

He isn’t even very good at football pundetry…….he said the bhuns would DEFINATELY win their last 3 games…….mmmmm

  2. Can’t believe he just told a caller to shut up. Sheela had to tell him off for being rude. It’s ridiculous.

After this is all over they’ve got to get him out the door surely? He’s lost any semblance of integrity and respect and everyone knows it.

He’s there to be controversial, we all know that, but he’s taken that to stupid levels now.

Problem is that fitba’ journalists to a man are really just an extension of the entertainment industry – talking cack to stimulate radio listening figures, web page hits etc.

It was embarrassing listening to Chico last night reporting third party statement as fact – the words “Oglivie claimed” or “Ogilvie stated” never even crossed his tiny wee mind far less prefixing any of his comments. Basically self interested guff passed off as fact.

The only hope in getting to the bottom of this is if proper journos like the guy from Channel4 stay on the trail – lets hope he doesn’t get deflected by the tons of masonic garbage that will be put in his way.

  4. Fergus said something along the lines of, and I cannot remember the quote

but maybe some intrepid CQN’r can dig it out but it was something like I

will only ever return to business in Scotland if it is to deal with the SFA.

  5. Poor Hugh!!!!

He never took the succulent lamb (Sir Minty didn’t engage with people from THAT background) but was never prepared to openly make an enemy.

Sadly this meant a one time engaging and witty football writer ended up writing anodyne features with only little snipes here and there.

A nice guy who took wrong roads, decided to ensure the mortgage and uni fees were paid and grew old still employed.

Hard to criticise on one level but a dereliction of his calling on the other.

    Shame.

  7. The caller who was told to ‘SHUT UP!’ by Keevins should make an official complaint about him. That was totally out of order.

SDM’s view on “two contracts” is indicative of the mindset that uses literal interpretations to suit the circumstances and absolutely avoids the principles that the rules are supposed to uphold.

If a rule is not tightly enough constructed to prevent a principle being dodged then its fair game for folk for whom principles, value and integrity belong to another universe.

On RTC I observed how scrupulous one poster was in interpreting the rules in terms of how that scrupulous interpretation served Rangers ends.

I put it down to an aversion to admitting wrong doing.

Now that is part of the fabric of a section of Scottish society. The principle they appear to adhere to is

“Whatever we can get away with is, by dint of not having to face the consequences of wrong, right.”

  17. The pillars upon which Scottish football are built are cracking under the strain of corruption and sectarianism . And the whitewash coating that covered the cracks is being stripped away by the jet wash of internet bampots, looking for the truth .

Only when the pillars crumble , and the building blocks come tumbling down , can we ever hope to build a fairer and more humble house to serve all of the people and not just the We Are The People.

Keep up the good fight , and our day will come .

    Hail Hail

  18. anything in BBC news scot saying it is possible rangers aren’t IA due to a technicality – not notifying fsa ?

  19. when it comes to laughing at the hun. there are no reasons not to do it. The way I see it is that in 5/10 years a team called rangers with the same fan base are going to be playing in Scotland. Whether the club is a few years old or over 140 years…I reckon that will be the case.

Therefore, as long as no non-playing staff lose their job, then they are up there to be laughed at.

We have every right to chortle, poke fun and conga at this point.

Finally, in any free society the press are supposed to provide checks and balances to those in power. The press have not failed us. Our every action has been scrutinised and twisted so that even the most mundane statement can be turned against us. We have been served well by them.

The press did fail the rangers fans.

Should it really be up to us to point this out. Where are the bears with their questions of the laptop loyal. In the 70s, the English joked about the Scottish press as fans with typewriters. 40 years down the line nothing has changed.
