SFA on good form

395

The SFA today confirmed that they have been able to confirm Paul Murray Fit and Proper to run a football club.  After Mr Murray’s previous tenure as a football club director, I’m absolutely delighted he will again be working his magic.  At Ibrox.

The SFA Professional Game Board specifically considered Murray’s “intentions as a Director to avoid a repetition of the mistakes of the past”, which presumably involved some kind of commitment to keep his new club spending within its income parameters.  This will be a challenge.

Some will be surprised that Murray has been given the green light, specifically after the opinion Lord Nimmo Smith expressed on directors of Rangers (in liquidation), but I’m happy this conclusion was arrived at correctly.

I searched and searched the SFA statement for news on ‘Glib and Shameless’, but they’ve clearly been unable to accept whatever assurances he’s been able to provide them, so far. Few will be surprised at this.

There’s a fine line between legitimate sporting rivalry and over-stepping the mark; the John Guidetti case illustrates this.  If during a TV interview John had said Rangers (sic) are “an embarrassment of a football company”, he may have legitimacy on his side, but it’s rude to say so.

Anyone saying this on TV about any club would be asked not to by the SFA.  The Association clearly believe whole “dead huns” thing falls into the same category, and have asked John to desist from such comment on TV in future, without censure.

You can’t offend the dead!

Fair enough.

I’m in a good mood, it’s as though we’re going to win the league, or something.

  1. A man calls home to his wife and says, “Honey, I have been asked to fly to Canada with my boss and several of his friends for fishing.. We’ll be gone for a long weekend. This is a good opportunity for me to get that promotion I’ve been wanting so could you please pack enough clothes for a 3 day weekend”…..

And also would you get out my rod and tackle box from the attic ?

We’re leaving at 4:30 pm from the office and I will swing by the house to pick my things up..

‘Oh! And please pack my new navy blue silk pajamas.’

The wife thinks this sounds a bit odd, but, being the good wife,

She does exactly what her husband asked.

Following the long weekend he came home a little tired, but, otherwise, looking good. The wife welcomes him home and asks if he caught many fish?

He says, ‘Yes! Lots of Walleyes, some Bass, and a few Pike.

He said but why didn’t you pack my new blue silk pajamas like I asked you to do?

    You’ll love the answer.

Latch ford I agree with just about every part of your post. Except one. The war is far from over.

  3. Paul Potless is an excellent choice. If Celtic fans were to appoint anyone at Sevco to avoid the new club becoming a threat, he would have been top of the list.

Gerryfae …. I wont begrudge you your success …. I will just point out that most of you lot have a five hour head start (being that Paul and you are all in Scotland) ….. so I think that any post within 5 hours for us in NA should be considered a first! :)

Just got another email from Celtic … talking up today’s game, but not one comment on the JG situation or today’s decision (although, in fairness, that might be a big quick). Nor have I seen any response, or follow up from Celtic, to the ‘our fans are upset that we were cheated’ email.

On one hand, I get the ‘dont interrupt your enemy when they are making a mistake theory’, but that only goes so far.

To me, building Celtic PLC up as a brand, while continuing to ignore the festering cheating that is going on in the league in which we play, is like building a mansion on top of quicksand. Sure the structure looks pretty, but, eventually it will get sucked into the s**’ all around it, and its value will be diminished.

If Celtic want to build a solid house that will last, they have to ensure that the house is sound (which PL seems to have done), but he also has to ensure that the land on which it is built will sustain (which he seems to go out of his way to ignore).

JG – a Celtic player – was cheated this week. Celtic is injured as a result. Even in PL speak, injury to Celtic adversely impacts the Club’s reputation which will adversely impact on its value at large. The only mistake was Celtic’s failure to say publicly respond appropriately (or at all) to this sham of a decision.

DM was approved as a director. By any common sense, he cannot properly be fit, so the rules are, once again, changed/interpreted to suit Sevco. Changing rules ad hoc to suit one member of an organization be facto injures the rest. The integrity and value of the league is diminished, and has been greatly diminished, by the conduct of Sevco and the SFA/SPFL.

And we wonder why we cant get sponsors and/or are offered three buttons and half a pack of cigarettes for the broadcast rights.

Our league is seen as a joke. this impacts on Celtic’s value as it impacts on what sponsors will pay to be associated with a Club (i) whose members are judged to be sectarian, and (ii) play in a joke league.

I always assumed that DD bought his shares with a view to selling them for a huge profit, when Celtic played in another league (EPL, or a european league). It is, after all, he mo. And I still believe that to be the case. However, I think there has been a change in his strategy ….. he is MA light …..

He – through his agent, DD – will keep Celtic ticking along in the SPL – dont spend more than is absolutely necessary … and legal fees fighting to claim titles that were stolen from us by cheating dont put more money in the till, so forget about them ….. just do what is necessary to keep the peace, get Sevco into the top flight (unless too many fans are upset and refuse to buy ST… then we may reconsider) …. and make as much money as possible in the short term.

Building Celtic up as a brand, while continuing to exist in the SPL, is like building a mansion on quicksand. It looks pretty, but is inevitably going to be sucked down by and into the s**t on which it is built.

Sadly, for me, their silence this week suggests that bonuses/bottom line (in the short term) are the only things that seem to matter.

    .

If we were concerned about the long term, Celtic would do something to ensure that the league in which we live and play is stable. Increasingly, it seems like the SFA/SPFL house is built on sand ….

    DD….?

    PL….?

    IB….?

    The board….?

    Who….?

The reason that I ask is coz, Celtic fans are – Celtic….not an individual.

Fergus McCann said before he left that…”Celtic will never again be run by one family or, one individual…it will be run by the Celtic support.”

Now, until McCann’s unfulfilled promise is…fulfilled…there is no Celtic.

All there is,….Celtic supporters on the outside of the stadium that they built and paid for, handing in their money to a bunch of men who would….sadly…take their money with one hand…whilst twisting the knife into their backs with the other….that’s why ‘nothing’ gets done about any ‘sh#t’ that comes our way…until that changes…we’ll be lucky to even get on the bus…to sit at the back.

The Celtic support have a decision to make when it comes to handing over their money for SB’s…are they supporting the team…?….are they paying a bunch of men to sell them out….?….would they be better holding onto their money and…if need be…buy out the Celtic board….?….maybe the Celtic board would resign coz….they’d have to put their hands into their own pockets to keep the club running once the ‘mugs’ had seen the light….?…..whatever….till Fergus’s unkept-promise is fulfilled…Celtic fans will be the hun-establishment-SMSM-punchbags….sad, but true I’m afraid.

Just my opinion of course, but I dont think it would make a difference. When the fans – who are more ‘permanent’ than any player – are criminalized, Celtic have said or done nothing….

  19. Good week for the sfa… firstly, successfully re writing the law on freedom of speech, re writing the English dictionary, and recovering from the shock and horror of the use of the ‘h’ word on a foreign tv channel, and secondly for successfully getting their man back onto the board of their club. I have to say.. oldco never did die, they just were allowed to fester away in the lower regions of scottish football till they were able to regroup and resurface. C’mon Celts, time for us to go, anywhere.. North Atlantic League, European League, anywhere.. the stink of Scottish football is making me sick.

    ****

But, the cheating for them allowed them to steal titles and money that otherwise would have gone to Celtic. If they are smarter this time, they will simply not steal as much…. enough to ‘keep us in our place’ but not enough to tip them into ruin ….

If the league is rigged for them, it wouldn’t be too difficult … if they are successful, but not TOO greedy, they will get every break, and may soon be in a position to overtake Celtic (it only took Hearts 2 years to rebuild)…. if they are greedy, they will once again end up in the crapper …. which, as I have said above, hurts the league, and hence, hurts Celtic’s brand….

Either way, accepting the status quo, will hurt Celtic.

for the good of Celtic’s brand and bottom line (if not, just because it is the right thing to do), it is time for Celtic to grow a pair and start to fight their corner.
