SFA take correct decision

278

Based on the estimates of the Chief Scientific Advisor of the actual (not confirmed) number of carriers in the country right now, and allowing for the current daily increase, we could expect between 10 and 20 carriers at Ibrox on Sunday.

Those carriers shout and sing, projecting their breath particles several meters into the vicinity of dozens of people each.  When goals are scored, fans embrace, heartily.  Everyone touches their face.  Football games on this scale, where goals are celebrated, would rattle coronavirus through the population quicker than any other gathering.  More people would die as a result.

The SFA made the right decision.  They acted ahead of two hesitant governments, both of whom wanted this game to go ahead.

Let’s look after each other.

………..I had a piece prepared on the Adidas deal; maybe tomorrow.

  1. If the season were to be null and void, what would happen in European competitions next year?

    No Scottish entrants?

    I don’t think so.

Without a shadow of doubt this is their best chance of stopping 10 in a row….this form the DR

“A potential option is to declare the season null and void, but don’t assign the title or enforce promotion or relegation. European places would be communicated to UEFA, presumably based on the table as it stands.

For obvious reasons, this would be hugely controversial.

Celtic are 13 points clear but would be denied nine-in-a-row as this season’s title would have to be left unassigned.

That would arguably be the least troublesome element from the SPFL’s point of view though”

This is an opportunity they will try and bludgeon thru on the back of the virus – PL will need to be at his strongest.

  3. Just been out to do a small shop. Dearie me when Armageddon does eventually arrive you’ll not be able to wipe your arse or wash your hands.

I wonder how many trees COVID-19 has killed to keep up with toilet paper demand.

You’ve got to see the dark funny side of it though as the biggest parasites on the planet get their comeuppance. There is not a single Christian or social thought when it comes to panic buying, basically self preservation and feck everybody else.

No toilet roll was harmed on my visit to the shops.

  4. `I believe we will be correctly awarded our title. An average of each team’s points per game extrapolated to a 38 game season takes care of games in hand.`

`If the season is to be abandoned then divide each team’s current points total by the number of league games they’ve actually played and multiply by 38.`

As far as I can see, the only two teams whom that MIGHT affect are St Johnstone and Hibs.

All teams who have played the same number of games would remain in the same position as they currently occupy.

  5. Finish the league.Award it as it stands. No relegation.Bring up the two top teams from the Championships.Next season cut down to a 33 game season, with the bottom 4 going down.Revert to status quo in 2 season’s.

This years Scottish Cup semi and final, played end of May if improvement in Covid.

    Going viral, a quick demo…

The number of new cases of the coronavirus in each of Italy, Spain, France, Germany and UK has roughly doubled every 4 days since the last week of February. Italy is about a week – two doubles – ahead of Spain which is a few days ahead of Germany and France which are a day or two ahead of the UK.

The pattern of infection is by now pretty well established, even allowing for differences in testing across the various countries. This is how the thing moves – double every 4 days or so.

New cases are almost entirely those who have tested positive following symptoms appearing – so-called symptomatic cases. Data from Italy suggests that 10% of them will require hospital treatment, discharged after around 10 days.

    Open your calculator app

Type ‘208’ which is the number of new coronavirus cases reported in the UK today.

    multiply by 2

press enter. That’ll be the approximate number of new cases likely to be reported on Tuesday.

    press enter again

Each time you press enter, the sum will double.

Each time you press enter represents 4-5 days of elapsed time and the sum represents the number of new symptomatic cases each day.

From what I gather, the government strategy is to increase the period of time it takes to double the number, say from 4 days to 8 days, and to get to a point where the number of new cases does not increase beyond the capacity of the health service to cope.

Crude arithmetic suggests that you need a ratio of 1 (staffed) hospital bed for each new symptomatic case. We are (apparently) doubling the number of intensive care beds and making other bed space available in general wards.

Given that, we might have capacity in the country for 6000 new cases per day, although the spread is unlikely to be uniform, and local capacity will be a factor.

In the round, capacity will be exceeded after five doubles. We can expect that as the doubles come round, more new measures will be needed to apply the brakes to the spread.

Importantly; there is no vaccine for this virus, it’s out there in the world, and until/unless a vaccine is found, the virus will continue to spread until it has run its course. Its course may not be linear, and it may ebb and flow with measures taken and seasons passed. Its course unknown at the moment.

At the moment, the numbers suggest that it will have run its course when around 60% of the population have been exposed to it. (Based on a WHO estimated Ro of 2.3 giving a threshold of about 56.5%)

For the UK that means when the total of symptomatic cases reaches about 3.5 Million.

Currently, there are 798 cases reported in the UK. We haven’t really started yet.

This isn’t good guys, and it’s unlikely to be finished in time for a resumption of football fixtures on 3rd April, unless you’re looking at 3rd April 2021, as if in all of this football is even important at all.

Call me a cynic but if sevco were 13 points clear there would not even be a discussion about the outcome of the League – they would just simply issue a statement saying final league positions will stand as they are – end of:

As my oul Ma always says:

    “You shouldn’t joke”

    B-)

  10. Well, that’s me £58 a month better off, having just cancelled BT & SKY Sports subscriptions. Seems that my cancellation experience mirrors my view of the respective channels SPFL coverage.

Called BT first, got a big Celtic fan on the line, good chat about the reasons for cancelling, the loss of the SPFL coverage for next season, both of us speculating on how the league will finish, could t have been more friendly or helpful. Will miss the BT approach to Scottish football – not perfect, bug they tried…

Then called SKY, got fast-tracked due to Platinum VIP which supposedly makes me a highly valued customer, and got a guy who grunted and mumbled, huffed a bit and told me that other customers had also been over-reacting by cancelling their subs, then told me I’d get a confirmation message and hung up. Frankly, a bit angry with myself for not cancelling sooner…arseholes!

I noticed yesterday that Share price has dropped substantially, so therefore they are going in for the Kill, on this window of opportunity, on I lighter note anybody got a contact for Toilet Rolls.

  15. Turkeybhoy, The money from last night will not be the decisive factor in whether Sevco survive or go under.

I honestly don’t think this is the time for point scoring.

However the fact that we have so much cash in the Bank, and a new super dooper kit deal means we are in the driving seat,

Its hard to see anyone investing in Sevco at this time. Can they afford Morelos wages, can they afford to buy Hagi can the afford to pay the Leccy Bill.

Whatever happens in the short term,I think there is little doubt that going forward we are and will continue to be the dominant Team in Scottish Football.

    Addendum

There were 25 new cases in Scotland today, roughly proportionate to and in line with the UK figures.

We have hospital capacity – after the planned increase in ICU beds and other reallocations etc – for perhaps 600 new cases per day.

It seems counter-intuitive, but it might be better catching the virus now while there’s healthcare capacity, than in a month or two when there might not be.

Fast forward say 4 weeks and it seems possible that the government will requisition private hospitals and staff, and might even start renting hotels en bloc as a capacity measure, provided there are people enough to staff them.

  24. Would be interested in the West Brit’s point of view regarding the 6 Nations being voided? Much shorter competition obviously. I could see the point of voiding the league if say only 10 games had been played but we are almost 80% through the league (78.9473684%).

The league must be played to a finish irrespective of how long it takes to complete.

He’s the saying he disagrees with the alternatives – being to void it or to award it without it being completed.
