SFA take correct decision

278

Based on the estimates of the Chief Scientific Advisor of the actual (not confirmed) number of carriers in the country right now, and allowing for the current daily increase, we could expect between 10 and 20 carriers at Ibrox on Sunday.

Those carriers shout and sing, projecting their breath particles several meters into the vicinity of dozens of people each.  When goals are scored, fans embrace, heartily.  Everyone touches their face.  Football games on this scale, where goals are celebrated, would rattle coronavirus through the population quicker than any other gathering.  More people would die as a result.

The SFA made the right decision.  They acted ahead of two hesitant governments, both of whom wanted this game to go ahead.

Let’s look after each other.

………..I had a piece prepared on the Adidas deal; maybe tomorrow.

  1. If the Huns were in our position – they’d be given it pronto and we’d all be urged to move on…….any dissent would be horribly characterised as sour grapes…from the green grapes……and scoddland would be cock-a-hoop.

Those opening the door to the null and void formula are way too obvious.

    The Champions League needs Champions……..

They would be called a ‘rangers hater with an agenda’…..thats me!

  3. Deniabhoy’s post shows the wide ranging impact of the virus and how it will cause us all to examine where we place football in our hierarchy of needs.

Marx stated that religion was the opiate of the people.

For past 30 years I would say that sport in general, and football in particular, has replaced religion as the opiate of the people.

With no sport distracting us , the politicians may find themselves in the cross hairs.

I imagine there will be every effort made to get sport on our Tv’s ( even if no fans are present) at the first opportunity.

Suits broadcasters, suits politicians ,and suits the suits.

    Lennie has his say.

    Wish he hadn`t

    Why?

Fairness demands it . Besides, there’s nothing wrong with a pre emptive strike against the ‘null and void’ brigade.

    Macjay,

    Lennie had his say.

    I’m glad he did.

If Neil had said anything along the lines of ” the league fixtures have to be completed” , this would be repeated adnauseum by the Huns and the Laptop loyal to pressure the SPFL to void the league if the 2019/20 fixtures were not concluded.

All we would hear is ‘even your own manager said the fixtures need to be completed, they weren’t, therefore the league is voided’

  8. I’m sure we can rely on the Scottish football authorities to make the right decisions in the interest of one club.

  9. Rock Tree Bhoy on

Nobody is disputing that the corona virus is much more important than football, I’m sure we are all clear on that, however we still need to go about our daily lives as best we can without promoting the virus any further, so this is why I’ve come on here, to find out whats going on at Celtic.

  10. Hairlikespaghetti, I cancelled sky 3 years ago pointing out that they take so much from scottish subscribers but don’t distribute it fairly with the majority going to england. Guy just argued the toss, saying yeah but the epl is amazing. Told him about 3times that’s because of the money but he didn’t listen. Sky couldn’t give a stuff about Scotland, but you don’t need me to tell you that!

  11. Neil said he wanted to finish the season and that whatever preparations needed to happen to facilitate this – should happen.

He said IF the league can’t be finished, a points average should be taken and the league awarded to us as deserving champions.

    He is 100% correct.

I’m not sure how else he was suppose to answer the question.

I agree with everything Lennie said .

However , if the powers that be do as Lennie suggests , then they will be put in the difficult position of being seen to be ” on Celtic`s side ” .

Any statement on the subject should come from the Celtic Board not Lennie. In the fullness of time when the situation becomes clearer .

And that after the SPL/ SFA make their decision .

Don`t tell your enemies what you`re thinking.

If the league is to be stolen from Celtic , then probably P.L. and the Board and our lawyers should be on the case.

    Not Lennie .

  13. Like wiping a goal off. Even if they declare season null & void, we will just win the next Title & the one after that, so 10 in a row is still very much on.

In one sense there is a golden opportunity for Scottish Soccer, there is absolutely no football on the TV, if they played out the season behind closed doors, with games spread out every day of the week & sell them to TV Companies, Clubs would have an Income, our season could be finished & the integrity of our Competitions maintained,

Anyhow as Deniabhoy’s post proves, there is a lot more at stake here for people so we should all calm down.

There may not be football for months, so endless days of paranoid posts will do all our heads in.

Best of Luck Deniabhoy, I hope your Business can survive & prosper again.

Best of Luck to all Posters stay safe & stay calm.

  14. Good luck to anyone trying to steal a Title from us, in realtime. Lenny, the players and Peter wont allow it. Do not worry about it.

  15. Macjay,

I think we are agreed on the principle.

I don’t want to spiral into , (what i once heard described as) a ‘Scottish argument’……

    Interesting social phenomenon.

Among his other accomplishments he’s written a book about what he calls Sympathy Groups and how they can effect all sorts of social change, which he discusses here

It strikes me that those balcony singers are maybe an example of a sympathy group with people, in the difficult circumstances they face ,trying to establish their social edge.

  21. So does this mean the tin foil hat crowd were wrong and there was no conspiracy to get the huns a home gate?

    Whudda thunk it

Still I’m sure we’ll get another load of fabricated nonsense later on.

  22. BABASONICOS71 on

My mother is 68 with underlying, serious health issues. 6 months from now i’d be more than happy if the huns have somehow won the league, Europe League, World Cup, Masterchef, & the Superbowl as long as I can share my ‘happiness’ with my old dear.

    Take care everyone.

  23. Evnin all – if a match is abandoned after 70 mins (78%) the result stands as though the whole game had been played – I’m sure we have overtaken the % of league games!

  24. The league win will be important to NFL on a personal, professional basis so he’s entitled to make his opinion known.

    wee bit of good news…

“Adidas said: “Celtic’s successful football history and future ambition make us hugely excited to be working together to create a new chapter with one of the most famous football clubs in the world.

“We are obsessed with helping athletes improve their game, life and world and as such we look forward to supporting Celtic’s players on the pitch as they continue to create new levels of success, and we are confident their legendary fanbase will love our designs.”

  28. As a western european child of the 70’s I suppose up to now I’ve had life fairly easy, aside from the usual personal trials and tribulations. We could name plenty of countries where people have lived through worse and the inconvenience we are facing is still nowhere near those levels. We are not waiting on bombs to fall or crops to fail.

Still as a child of the 70’s I’ve got parents and other family in their 70’s and 80’s and I’m concerned for them. Whatever small sacrifices we make now are for them.

So celtic wise 9-in-a-row can wait. The Scottish cup can wait. The next trip to paradise will be all the sweeter because of the wait or it will be bitter sweet because of any loss we might suffer between now and then. What makes the Celtic family isn’t sweeping the trophy boards. It is the community and where we came from and who we are.

We will tough this out. I hope we discover by the end of it that a society based on greed and individualism isn’t sustainable in the face of serious crises. If anything good is to come from this I hope it is a move towards cooperation and community solidarity and where the common good trumps individual ambition and greed.

    Stay safe friends.

  29. Hopefully as the season draws to a close, the resulting lull in proceedings will quieten the Angrier outlets…………
