SFA tears that Newco are little more than cannon fodder, CQN Podcast launches

293

Speaking to the media over the weekend, SFA president, Alan McRae, suggested it would be boring if Celtic won another treble and that Rangers (sic.) making a proper run at the title was necessary. McRae was, perhaps, the worse for wear, when Aberdeen pushed Celtic all the way in the Scottish Cup final, while finishing second in the league and League Cup runners up.

This mind-set is so informative. Aberdeen are dismissed while Newco are the great red white and blue hope. Perhaps after another season of Ibrox ineptitude the penny will drop at the top of the SFA that what people previously regarded as the ‘Rangers challenge’ is over and it’s not coming back.

Despite Newco signing their captain on a free transfer, Aberdeen have a more sustainable financial model than Newco last season’s third placed side. They have conventional banking facilities, with a credit score high enough to support an overdraft. They will lose and make money in the seasons ahead, but will never be in financial crisis.

The brutal truth is that Newco are little more than cannon fodder. They bring millions to the game, putting money into the coffers of each opponent, but their own income is insufficient to resource the challenge Alan McRae craves. This will not change until, or unless, Celtic are allowed to leave Scottish football.

No one will be able to put a glove on Celtic anytime soon.  Even England struggled to do so on Saturday.

The first Celtic Quick News podcast, A Celtic State of Mind, launched yesterday. Legendary Celtic author, Paul John Dykes and Kevin Graham of the Affiliation introduce the series, with guest, Paul Gallagher.

This is the first in what will be a weekly series of podcasts. I’m delighted with the people we have involved in the project. Catch it here, you will enjoy.

I had a few scary experiences at Brockville , none as bad as yours though. That would have been our 9 in a row game in 1974. I hope they got the culprit.

    GORDON on 12TH JUNE 2017 7:21 PM,

Nobody told me that the boycott was over!!

However, I was at a game at Brockville , my first game back there, in 1968 and the same thing happened.

Children, around 11 or 2 years of age, in the corner enclosure waving flags that they bought outside the ground. Marched round the track.

I hadn’t intended going, but I went into town and met up with a few work mates.

My mother had asked me to get an Italian loaf, which I did.

I had it into the pub with me and intended to leave it in a Left Luggage locker in Queen St. Station…but didn’t.

On the train to Falkirk, the whisky hunger kicked in, so I started to nibble at the loaf.

I still had it under my arm when we went into the ground. There was torrential rain during the match and half way through, I remembered the loaf, which was a sodden mess by now.

I let it go and can still see and hear it as it hit the ground with a squelchy splatt.

    PS.

Big Doug Baillie was playing that day and h got his usual roasting.

The one really plus factor Celtic have is its support. Take that away or diminish it in any form will affect the team on the park.

I can not agree or condone hitting the club in its financial pocket for something we have been victims of. Why should our current team and manager suffer the consequences of years of cheating and skullduggery.

We are the victims, not the perpetrators.

As for the one scenario that could affect our crowds, indeed all crowds, that I was reluctant to discuss. Suffice to mention recent events in England. I had previously put to the blog that a ” Ring of Steel” around Parkhead may be a consequence that we would have to get used to. Hampdump on Saturday was a visible example of this.

Security at all grounds will have been reviewed and safety will be paramount despite the inconvenience or animosity that may occur.

Sorry AKBW1888, I can’t agree. Yes I would tell Trump where to stick it. Money isn’t everything, and you can’t say that Trump has greater value just because he has more money. And Celtic should be about more than just money, if someone wants to follow the money, there’s always Chelsea. Best regards.

Best Regards Apricale, well you are entitled to your own opinion just like Me however

Footy nowadays is big business it’s all about the money & if someone came along &

offered a bottomless well of money an open cheque book with Billions to spend

you would knock that back considering it would give one a great advantage in winning

that Big Trophy which has big ears on it & be the envy of other Club’s

say in other words tripe. What’s the point in wasting money on squad players that’s if

this so-called player is any good & if my memory serves me right Blackburn Rovers got

Relegated so it’s obvious this player is wanting to move on the question is what can he

bring to our Club that don’t already have? & is he better than the players we already have

who fill the exact same positions on the playing field? If the answer is No to any of the

Now I’m in no way surprised by Alan McRae’s allegiances and motives. I’m very surprised he actually said it out loud.

I really am very placid and non-judgmental these days but the guy is an imbecile.

They can keep prating about for eternity as far as we are concerned – they ain’t screwing us around no more.

Always hated Brockville. Bee in many crushes but that place in 71-72 was the closest I ever came to be killed. Tynecastle the same season, Wednesday night cup replay we won 1-0 (Macari) worst violence I ever experienced inside a ground. That mob launched tumblers golf balls and darts at the Celtic fans. Hundreds on the pitch including me, game stopped for a period. Thinking back it’s a wonder there weren’t greater casualties or even fatalities, between crowd trouble mostly outside the grounds (countless Hun games) or the many crushes at Parkhead, Hampden Nottingham etc.

  18. CELTIC have made an improved £1.3million plus Ryan Christie bid to land Jonny Hayes from Aberdeen.

The Hoops hope it will seal a deal for the Dons winger within the next 48 hours.

The agreement will see midfielder Christie return to Pittodrie on a season-long loan.

Hayes has been on Republic of Ireland duty but is ready to fly back to finalise his move to Parkhead.

Meanwhile, Stuart Armstrong is set to re-open talks over a new Celtic deal.

The Scotland midfielder, who is on the radar of Premier League clubs in England including Everton and West Brom, had asked for negotiations to be put on hold until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old is now going into the final year of his deal and Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers has already said that getting him on an extended contract is a priority.

Armstrong said: “It’s something we had talked about and had decided to leave until the season was finished then we would pick things up again from there.

“I’m sure we will take care of that soon.”

Fresh from the disappointment of the weekend draw with England, Armstrong is now set for a break to recharge the batteries before Celtic’s quickfire return to pre-season.

He said: “I will be looking to switch off from football for the next while before we get back in.”

To deal with the SFA, you would have to deal with the inherent bigotry within Scottish society.

  20. STUART ARMSTRONG has revealed he’s on the verge of signing a new deal with Celtic.

The Scotland star has been in talks with Brendan Rodgers about extending his stay at Parkhead and is ready to put pen to paper.

Armstrong, modelling the new Hoops away kit said: “We had decided to leave it until the season was finished and then we would pick things up again.

“I’m sure we will take care of that soon. You can never put a time limit on these things. This is the happiest I have been in my footballing career.

“That has shown on the park, I am very happy and playing some of the best football of my life.”

Armstrong’s season ended with Scotland’s 2-2 draw against England last weekend and he said: “There has been a lot of work and a lot of games and travelling so I will be looking to switch off from football for the next while before we get back in.

“I just want to switch off, reflect and look forward to the new contract.”

  21. As a member of the Ottawa CSC, I have been going to the NAFCSC conventions from the very start. Missed a few along the way….but have to say, the 2017 version was as good as they get.

As the years have gone by, you really notice the empty chairs, as old friends have passed on. However, getting together causes us to hold dear the memory of those who have passed, and enjoy the company of those who are still with us, and those who become new friends.

I particularly loved the constant stream of hoops coming in the front toor of the Westgate, with cases of beer under their arms, sitting down at the bar, and getting stuck in. The hotel management must rue the fact that there is a gas station 5 minutes walk away, selling beer at less that a dollar a pop.

On our last evening, we thought we would have to give away our remaining beer before leaving, but thought we should have a couple before doing so. In the blink of an eye, it was all gone. However, a lovely bunch of Tims, heading for the airport, deposited their left overs on our table before heading out the door.

Greatly enjoyed at the time. Greatly regretted the next morning.

If you haven’t been, I would encourage any and all of you to come to Vegas 2019. Just look for the Ottawa CSC folk near the door. that’s where you drop off your cargo as you leave…..:)
